THAT THING ON HIS WRIST.

THAT IS A PINCUSHION THING. FOR NEEDLES. ON HIS WRIST.

DISCUSS.

YES IT IS. It’s my favourite thing about the NY set, all these delicious little domestic details. Some folks spent a lot of season four complaining about Kurt’s opacity, but, god, didn’t we learn so much about his inner life, his tastes and needs and tools for living just by getting to see how he manages his space and spends his downtime? I usually expect to resort to fanfic for that! That pin cushion is such a ficcish detail. More, please!

And this one, the jacket under construction, feels especially deliberate. All this noise about Kurt and NYADA, Kurt and his band, yet the writers are being very careful to keep his other big talent — fashion design — fresh in our minds. Hm.

(Also, I’m coveting his wardrobe again. *whines*)

"One of my favorite pieces is an old Mercedes seat that Kurt has sort of fashioned into a living room chair. My thought was that Kurt has a very close relationship with his father, and his father has a tire shop, and it’s his livelihood so it, also, resonated in terms of his relationship with his father." - Mark Hutman, Glee production designer

Okay, the main reason I am writing this is because the dash is full of posts like this and it makes me sad. I am aware that it’s ironic that I’m throwing in my opinion as well because I know it won’t change anything and it will probably only add to the frustration that has been building up ever since the forth, maybe even the third season. So, a lot of people will be annoyed by this post and a lot of people will judge me for this and I am aware of it. I just can’t really help it because I love those characters and I love those friendships people are raging against and I feel way too much. This won’t be an essay. I will attempt to write one but the way I know myself this will end up in a rambly post without any real structure. I just have to say something before I start to unfollow people just for looking at things differently.  So, here you have my opinion on Blaine and Kurt and some things in between. I don’t say I’m right, I just say that this is how I feel, so don’t be mad at me for writing this, I just need to vent somewhere.

For anyone who thinks Kurt was cold/emotionless during his fight with blaine

First we must remember that Kurt’s biggest indicators of feeling hurt/insecure/guilty are: defensiveness, lashing out, criticizing others, passive aggression, and putting up a cold, prickly wall of armour.  He’s done it with Burt, done it with Finn, done it with Rachel.  In fact, our first instance of this is aaaaaall the way back in Acafellas, after Mercedes broke the window of his car.  When she walks up to him to apologize, he glances at her, and we can see how guarded and hurt he is (this being his first friend, who just threw a rock into his expensive vehicle), despite how he tries to play it casual.  It’s then when Mercedes sweetly apologizes and supports his “love for Rachel” that he allows his defenses to come down long enough to come out to her, though he quickly closes up again.

It occurs to me that “Not the Boy Next Door” is the first song or part Kurt’s sung (other than “Pink Houses” which I try to block from my memory) that was originally sung by a man.  Not in terms of group numbers where he gets a line, but when it comes to Kurt-centric songs where he’s either lead or dueting with someone.  The boy’s done Madonna, Dionne Warwick, Gaga, Whitney, Pink, Hey Monday has a female lead singer, and when it comes to songs sung by characters we’ve got Evita, Fanny Bryce, Glinda, Elphaba, Mama Rose (twice!)…

And I’m not sure how I feel about that.  I mean, I’ve been wanting him to do songs that better suit his range for a long time, and I am usually the first one to jump on him for only ever being allowed to sing girl songs when Blaine can sing a mix of things.  But at the same time, it kind of bothers me.  He can’t win anything or succeed in any way when he sings songs traditionally done by women, to the point where that’s Jesse’s only criticism of his “Some People,” and he couldn’t play Tony because of it…and the only way for him to succeed is to sing a song done by a guy, whether he necessarily wants to or not.

yeah, I mean I didn’t know that about the TBND, but it’s sad to think that after all people put him through for wanting to sing girl songs and being different from others, now in the most important audition of his life (or up until now anyway) he’s singing a song sung by a guy to get in the school he likes.

I mean I kinda expected that after the whole horror that was IAU, they’d actually pick a song like the ones he used to sing, a song originally sung by a woman, and he would be so amazing and brilliant at it that the NYADA scout won’t have anything but great things to say, and that would be a point of the show where the viewer would think “oh, this is where he can be himself and be appreciated for who he is, and not being made fun of and humiliated”

If the male song he’s singing was a blatant attempt to seem more masculine then I would completely agree with you both and be raging over it — but the point of the song is the exact opposite. The song is him declaring: “I’m not sorry for just being me.” Literally. It’s all about how he is not at all the traditional ideal of a man, and how he is completely unapologetic about it. It’s a big high-kicking celebration of his uniqueness, even more than Greatest Star was. So I’m not going to get hung up on what gender the original performer was, because Not the Boy Next Door might as well have been written for him.

I was thinking about how Kurt wanted to have couples counseling with Blaine, and for the most part was willing to “actively listen” to everything he wanted to say. But when Blaine brought up Kurt texting Chandler, he almost immediately cut him off and reminded Blaine he had already apologized for that via song. He was willing to listen to anything else Blaine brought up (even though we weren’t meant to take the tan hands/snapping fingers complaint seriously as an audience).

But that stood out to me, because Kurt really didn’t want to talk about texting Chandler anymore. Even though he initiated the couples counseling and wanted a space to air out their problems, the moment that came up he shut it down.

And I know we’re not supposed to read that much into it because lol glee. But I appreciated that, actually, because I think it showed how regretful Kurt actually was about the entire situation. He knew he was in the wrong, and it’s Kurt, so he probably didn’t want Blaine to drag that out when he knew he couldn’t fire back with anything besides “yeah, and your texting buddy almost blinded you.” I think it also showed that he had accepted Blaine’s feelings on the matter and wasn’t interested in telling him how to feel about it (“it’s not cheating.” “this is texting.” “it’s okay”).

INRBIO fantasy!Blaine is an intimidating fellow.  He’s devastatingly gorgeous, incredibly confident, and worst of all (unlike actual Blaine), he doesn’t want Kurt.  Can’t be bothered with him.  fantasy!Blaine is basically saying, “good riddance” to Kurt.  He’s got all of Kurt’s friends behind him, backing him up, while they judge Kurt and look at him with disdain.

fantasy!Blaine is the Blaine Kurt sees when he’s feeling insecure about himself - the “alpha gay” as it were.

What’s happening during INRBIO is that Blaine is trying to express himself to Kurt, but Kurt’s own insecurities are preventing himself from seeing real!Blaine’s hurt, just like Blaine’s worries about the future and anticipating hurt prevented him from seeing how distancing himself from Kurt was hurting Kurt and feeding into his insecurities.
