YOU. ARE. SUCH. A. PUPPY.
I got a prompt last month asking for Kurt tripping down the Dalton stairs and Blaine cushioning his fall, I tried to work on it but I just hated how it was coming out! Quite frustrating really because the prompt was gold. So I decided to try again, still not happy with it but…/hides/
Kurt removed his sunglasses as he walked down the smooth marble steps, silently cursing himself for choosing shoes with such little grip. Boys rushed around him, running with even footing down the stairs, laughing loudly and yelling over their backs. He had no idea where they were headed, but it seemed like following the crowd was the best bet.
A shortish, friendly looking brunet walked directly in front of him. He seemed as good a person to ask as anyone.
“Excuse-” As he spoke, he misstepped and his foot slid off the step and caught around his ankle. He windmilled his arms, trying desperately to regain balance, but it was a lost cause. With a swoop in his stomach and an involuntary cry, he tumbled forward, slamming into the stranger.
Another fall off the last stair, and they were laying on the floor. Kurt was lucky (if he could call it luck) to have the boy underneath to cushion his fall, because the other groaned and rubbed where his head met the floor.
“I’m so sorry,” Kurt squeaked, still recovering from the shock of falling and not yet aware that his entire body rested of the injured and cute- wow, really cute- boy. “Are you ok?”
“‘M fine.” He smiled as if to prove it was true.
It was a nice smile, Kurt couldn’t help but note. Genuine and wide, making his eyes crinkle. He smelt good, too. Like clean laundry and something spicier. “Are you?”
“Yeah.” Their eyes met for a fraction of a second, just long enough for Kurt to notice the pale brown colour of his irises before realizing how they were positioned. Kurt bolted up quickly, looking around nervously, but no one was glaring at them. Most of them had amused expressions on their faces and- did one of them wink?
“Let me,” he held out his hand, a jolt of electricity shooting through when the stranger reached out and clasped it pulling himself up. “I’m Kurt, by the way. I’m really, really sorry about that.”
“Blaine.” The boy said, still holding Kurt’s hand. “Don’t worry about it, new kid. Just get some good grips for your shoes and it won’t happen again.”
Kurt thought maybe there was a bit of an upside to plummeting straight into cute prep school boys but he smiled and nodded. “Lesson learned.”
“Were you on your way to see the Warblers?” Blaine asked.
Fate struck again. Turned out spying wouldn’t be as hard as he thought, even if he stuck out like a sore thumb. “Yeah. I am.”
“Follow me,” Blaine tugged at Kurt’s hand. “I know a short cut.”
