Season 2 Trailer First Thoughts/Analysis (part 3)
Coven leaders! From what I can tell we have Bard, Healing, Illusions, and Potions from left to right in the back, and Beast Keeping in the front.
In this photo we have Potions (again), Oracle, and Plant from left to right in the back, and Abominations and Construction in the front.
How strange that the leader of the Beast Keeping Coven is the only one who appears to be a “beast”/demon as opposed to a witch. I suppose the the Oracle Coven leader could also be a demon, but they are much more humanoid than the Beast Keeping leader. It seems very odd that the only demon in the bunch would be the one whose job it is to control creatures.
Now, what is everyone doing in this shot? We haven’t really seen witches doing magic around cauldrons previously, but that certainly seems to be what’s going on here. Is this some sort of magical technique we have yet to be introduced to? Or is this some method of combining the magic of all the coven heads?
Also, who are the coven heads meeting? They’re all looking directly at someone, at they don’t appear to be angry or aggressive, so I’m assuming the person they’re meeting is on their side (aka Belos’ side). My guess is that they’re either looking at the Golden Guard or one of the Blights.
Lilith’s shirt has got to mean something. An almost dead battery is such an ominous symbol to put on her shirt. I don’t know what it implies, but that shirt scares me.
Turns out I was way off - Hooty is going to leave the house. I don’t quite understand how that’s possible, as Hooty IS the house, but I suppose it’s not that weird considering Eda can detach and reattach limbs. Maybe Hooty will finally make a friend.
Also, I think it’s absolutely HILARIOUS that Lilith has to carry him. I want to see him annoy the living shit out of her.
I was pleasantly surprised to see a shot with Mattholomule in it! I don’t think he’ll become a main character, but considering he and Gus are the only season 1 characters in this shot, it seems like he’s gonna play a larger role than I had previously thought he would.
It looks like the other three are the Glandus students Gus tries to impress in Through the Looking Glass Ruins. I’m willing to bet that Matt belittled Gus in some way in front of the Glandus kids, and that caused Gus to try and prove himself.
Eda flashback! Yes! It looks to me like Eda is a little older than she was in the other flashbacks we’ve seen, maybe late teens or early twenties. I think that Eda saw someone she wasn’t expecting to see, someone from her past, and that caused the flashback. This person used to be a friend, but likely isn’t anymore. I really hope we get to spend a good amount of time in flashbacks. We have a lot to learn about Eda and Lilith when they were young.
Odalia Blight face reveal! Blight Industries, huh? I have to assume that Blight Industries is one of the biggest companies on the Boiling Isles, given the Blights status of power. And while the creations we see in the trailer are all abomination-oriented, maybe Blight Industries could be responsible for some of the pieces of technology we've already seen in the show, like Belos’ staff. And maybe, if fixing the portal requires technical knowledge in addition to magic, Blight Industries will help with that too.
Now, I hate the Blight parents as much as the next guy. In fact, I hate the Blight parents a lot more than most fans do. But for whatever reason, I never pictured them trying to physically injure or even kill Luz this soon. I’m assuming this screenshot is from Escaping Expulsion, the SECOND EPISODE of the new season. Luz isn’t going to try to go after Belos that quickly into the new season, so it’s not like the Blights are defending him. I can think of almost nothing Luz could do that could warrant Alador and Odalia trying to injure or kill a FOURTEEN YEAR OLD, but Luz is clearly scuffed up, and that weapon looks pretty deadly.
We haven’t seen much bard magic yet, and I’m excited to learn more about what it entails. I have been thinking of it as making music using magic, but maybe it’s actually more along the lines of making magic using music. The angry expression this person has while playing the violin makes me think they could be using their music to summon a certain spell. It’s just a theory, but it could make bard magic a lot more powerful.
What’s sneaking up on young Eda here? My guess is one of these things:
If you look at the lower left corner of the shot with Eda, you can see statues that resemble this creature. I think that someone will be attacked by one of these in present day, and that will be interspersed with flashbacks of young Eda being attacked by the same beast.
Is this Gwendolyn yelling at young Lilith? It would be so interesting to see a rift growing between Eda and Lilith at a young age.
LUMITY
Lilith looks so scared. Eda’s been transforming into the Owl Beast for years and is used to it by now, but just imagine how scary it must have been that first time. I want to see a plotline where Lilith is anxious about turning into a beast, and we get to see a different side of Lilith than the strong and powerful facade she usually wears.
And finally: “Knock knock, human.” Given that Belos’ hair was covered in all of his season 1 appearances, I’m guessing that he conceals it as a way of hiding his identity. I’m hoping that Luz seeing him with his hair down will give Luz, Eda, and the rest of the gang a vital clue to discovering his identity.
