Hi there! You've stumbled upon my blog, where I post about various cartoons that I'm into. Right now, that's mainly The Owl House. If you're on this blog, you should have seen all Owl House episodes up to date. Every other cartoon I post about will have a spoiler warning in bold at the top of the post and/or in the tags. Hope you like it here!
This is a tough one! My first thought was Owlbert, the OG who we haven't been able to see much of lately. Then I remembered Flapjack, the most fleshed out palisman whose story I find really touching. Ultimately, I think I would have to say Flapjack is my favorite palisman, due both to his story and his design. A close second that I do want to name, though, is Emmiline Bailey Marcostimo, Gus' palisman. That lizard is so cute and goofy, I can't help but love her.
What if Hunter decides to stay in the human realm? Unlike Amity, Gus, and Willow, he doesn’t have family waiting for him in the Boiling Isles. Actually, he feels unsafe constantly in the Isles because of the constant threat of Belos finding him, and even after Belos is defeated it might be hard to shake that paranoia. So, what if he just stays on Earth?
Okay that cross over ship of Dipper and Gus sounds amazing, they would get along like that! I need a fanfiction about this right now!
Wouldn't they get along great? I doubt anyone has ever written a fic about them, but if any of you ever do, please send it my way. Until then, we'll just have to use our imaginations.
How I feel about this character: Gus is great! He's not one of my favorite characters, but he's interesting and never fails to make me laugh.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Mattholomule, although I'm still not 100% on board with this ship.
My non-romantic OTP for this character: Willow and Gus will always make a great pair. Except when pixies are involved.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Gus isn't that underrated. I see a lot of content about him considering that he is a relatively minor character. Of course, there's nothing wrong with wishing for more content of your favorite character, but I see a heck lot of people saying he's underrated, and I disagree.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I want to see more of Gus' relationship with his dad and what Gus' home life is like. He's referenced it more than once, and it's made me curious.
My OTP: I suppose I would have to say Gustholomule, as it's the only ship I have involving Gus.
My cross over ship: Gus would get along great with Dipper. One would be freaking out over meeting a human, the other would be freaking out over meeting a witch. This is more platonic that romantic, though.
A headcanon fact: Mostly thanks to Willow, Gus finds plants to be very interesting. Not interesting enough to study them, but interesting enough to stop and admire them if he sees a cool one.
When I started shipping it if I did: I didn't ship Gustholomule until Through the Looking Glass Ruins. Even now, I wouldn't say I ship it 100%, but I certainly see it now.
My thoughts: I think it has potential. I definitely think we haven’t seen the last of Matt in canon, and hopefully we haven’t seen the last interaction between Matt and Gus.
What makes me happy about them: They both have insecurities that they help each other work through, be it consciously or unintentionally.
What makes me sad about them: I doubt there’s enough time left to flesh out their relationship in canon. Maybe if Disney hadn’t cut the show short, but now we have so little content remaining, I can’t imagine we can fit in much Gustholomule.
Things done in fanfic that annoys me: When fics have them get together while Matt is still being a jerk to Gus. That’s no fun. I want to see them be happy together, not making each other feel bad.
Things I look for in fanfic: I don’t think I’ve ever read a Gustholomule fic, but I would like reading one where they somehow end up in a situation that results in them learning a lot about one another. Let them see each other’s strengths, weaknesses, embarrassing secrets, etc.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: While I’m not a diehard Gustholomule fan, I can’t think of any other characters I ship either one of them with.
My happily ever after for them: I haven’t thought that far into their future. Maybe them venturing into the human realm together and having their minds completely blown at everything that they see?
Who is the big spoon/little spoon: Gus is the big spoon, Matt is the little spoon.
What is their favorite non-sexual activity: I think they could get into some epic prank wars. The kind that go on for months and get more and more elaborate.
Okay so 2 is definitely a lie, I’m thinking. Hooty IS the house, so hooty can’t leave the house. That leaves 1 and 3. 1 might be more likely, but 3 is the one I want to see. That being said, a part of me thinks 1 is also a lie. In my experience, when people play two truths and a lie they make the lie something mundane in order to trick us. Gus having a growth spurt is definitely the least exciting option on the list, which leads me to believe it’s a lie.
Final Verdict: 1 and 2 are lies. 3 is true. I can’t wait to see Camila beat someone half to death.
How I feel about this character: I’m very neutral towards Gus overall. He’s not a favorite character of mine because I feel like he doesn’t have much depth (yet), but I do enjoy the enthusiasm and energy he brings to the show.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Currently, no one. I know some people ship Gus x Mattholomule, Gus x Skara, and a few others, but none have really appealed to me.
My non-romantic OTP for this character: Gus and Willow. It seems like just the two of them were friends for a long while, and they were there for each other that whole time.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Gus is no longer underrated. He was, and Gus fans combated that by making a whole bunch of Gus content and forming things like Gladurday. But saying that Gus is still underrated today is, in my opinion, wrong. I see a TON of Gus content on a regular basis.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I’m sure this will happen, but I want to Gus to have some conflict of his own. I think it will be a relatively minor conflict in the show as whole, but it would be nice if he had something. I want angst, damn it!
Willow's Dads would probably get along with Luz fairly quickly.
I agree! Not only do I think they’ll like her personality, I think they’ll be happy that Willow made another close friend. I get the feeling that Gus has been Willow’s only real friend for quite some time, and while I certainly think they had a good time with one another, having only one friend can get lonely, even if they’re a close friend. But now, Willow also has Luz, who’s a super kind and supportive friend who really cares about Willow. So, I think Willow’s dads would be big fans of Luz. I look forward to (hopefully) seeing them interact!
What would even be Gus' motivation to join Belos side?
I honestly don’t know. That post was just a thought that popped into my head, it’s not a theory or something I’ve thought about extensively. If it was to happen, I don’t think Gus would become evil. Instead, Belos just needs to convince Gus that he’s doing the right thing by joining him. Gus has been fed the same “Belos is a wonderful, righteous leader” propaganda that the entire isles has been fed. Even if he’s now aware of Belos’s cruelty to Eda, it’s very difficult to completely change your viewpoint based off of one incident, and I’m confident that at least a part of Gus is still pro-Belos. I think the same about Willow, Amity, and all the other Boiling Isles kids. If Belos told Gus that Luz is just confused, and it’s all a misunderstanding, and he actually wants to help Eda, and Luz and Eda will both be happy in the end if Gus can just do this one thing for him, I think there’s definitely a possibility that Belos would be able to convince him.
Also, it would be an awesome plot twist. Think of the angst of Luz looking tearfully at Gus and saying “how could you do this?” and Gus saying “I’m sorry, Luz, but it’s for your own good. You’ll understand soon.” I LIVE for that stuff.
Thanks for the ask! (And here’s the post this ask is referencing.)
Not sure if this has been brought up before but i’m waiting on toh to explain how amity knows so much abt the human world... she reads the good witch azura, has seen the same azura movie as luz AND knows how to work a dvd when gus the human expert doesn’t even know what it is, and she also high-fived luz when both gus and willow were like wtf is she doing w her hand. ‘Tis quite interesting if you ask me...
I hadn't thought of your point about the high five! You’re right, Amity does seem to know an awful lot about the human world, more than anyone we’ve seen so far, even thought there’s an entire club at Hexside dedicated to studying humans. It just occurred to me that we don't even have proof that anyone else on the isles has heard of The Good Witch Azura series. The books weren’t in the main portion of the library They were only seen in Amity’s hideout, which raises the possibility that Amity didn’t get the books from the library, but got them from somewhere else and brought them to her secret room. However, it doesn’t seem like Amity is actively trying to learn about humans the way Gus is. She just happens to know all of this stuff. I agree, ‘tis quite interesting!
Could this possibly have to do with her parents? Belos seems to working on something involving the human realm, and one or both of Amity’s parents is likely working with Belos. Odalia and/or Alador could be learning about humans and the human realm through their jobs, and potentially even bringing human stuff (like the Azura books) home for work, giving Amity more exposure to the human realm than any other kid on the isles gets. That’s the only reasonable explanation I can come up with. If anyone else has another idea, I’d love to hear it!
Thanks for the ask! You raise a really good point.
I love how Boscha’s response to a talking house telling her that she is a jerk was just “ew.” Not “wtf, that house is talking” or “hey! I am not a jerk, Willow, Gus and are Luz just losers.” Just “ew,” as though Boscha regularly interacts with talking houses and finds them to be a nuisance.
