Cartoons of the Cosmos

@cartoonsofthecosmos / cartoonsofthecosmos.tumblr.com

Hi there! You've stumbled upon my blog, where I post about various cartoons that I'm into. Right now, that's mainly The Owl House. If you're on this blog, you should have seen all Owl House episodes up to date. Every other cartoon I post about will have a spoiler warning in bold at the top of the post and/or in the tags. Hope you like it here!

The tree in the background of this shot from the trailer looks to me like it could be the Grom tree, or at the very least a similar tree. Also, the “keep out” and “beware of beast” signs appear to be referencing something that is on the same side of the bars as the tree. I’m still uncertain what the “beast” could be, but I’m so excited at the idea that the Grom tree might once again be a crucial location. It was the backdrop for a truly beautiful and meaningful moment in season 1 and another one in season 2 (Luz talking about her dad). It would be wonderful for us to get to watch one last important scene take place there in season 3. It appearing in the background gives me hope it will be significant once more.

so many parallels from the last time they were at the grom tree... grom being a dreaded day for amity, the anniversary of her dad’s death being a dreaded day for luz. both episodes centering around physical fighting but really being about luz and amity battling their own emotions. both girls having something they want to hide from the other. both of them realizing they don’t have to face their problems alone. ugh. so well done

Day 16: Funniest Moment

Oh God, how can I possibly pick just one funny moment out of the whole series??

So I’m going to pick one or two funny moments in each of my favorite episodes.

Lost in Language:

“Phew, almost passed out”

and

Edric: It says no trespassing but I’m allergic to the rules.

Emira: And dairy.

Edric: Wow, okay. Just expose me.

Enchanting Grom Fright:

The spider crawling on Luz’s face. “Fearless…champion”

and

Hooty to Amity: “You wanna hear my worst nightmare?” And then Amity proceeds to beat the hell out of him.

Wing It Like Witches: (this whole dang episode cracks me up, so this is very hard to pick just two)

Luz: Don’t worry, it’s not like she can follow us around all day, right?

Cut to her, Willow and Gus cover in trash and graffiti

Luz: She followed us around all day. She literally followed us around all day!

and

Amity’s big gay panic moment

Me? On a team with you? Running around in cute uniforms? Sweating? I gotta go!

Escaping Expulsion:

Gus: That’s right, we’ll get back into Hexside or die trying!

Willow: No one’s dying.

Gus: Not with that attitude.

and

Gus: I’ll distract them with illusions of beautiful lady guards.

Willow: This isn’t a cartoon from the ‘40s, Gus!

Eclipse Lake:

Luz, sick with the common mold thinking she has snake arms

and

Everybody thinking Hunter has an annoying voice.

“Why does everyone say that?”

I have some favorite funny moments in other episodes, but this post is getting long, so yeah.

Owltober 2021 October 5

prompt: favourite episode and why?

I actually tierlisted my favourite episodes a while back, here’s the full thing:

so Enchanting Grom Fright, Eda’s Requiem, Knock Knock Knockin’ On Hooty’s Door, and Eclipse Lake are ranked highest, with close seconds being everything in the second tier. the four listed at the top have no real order for me, however. I’d have to say Eda’s Requiem is my overall favourite. beyond the inclusion of Raine as a character who uses exclusively they/them, we get to see Eda being a person with feelings and internal conflicts and we really see her struggling. not with the curse or with some challenge, but with herself and her changing surroundings. we see her being vulnerable, we see her without her tough act the most we’ve ever seen her. her confidence in herself and her charisma have been really all we’ve seen of her so far. yes she’s had tender moments, like with Luz and with King, but they’re brief and those moments of true emotion are quickly covered back up by her tough persona. Eda’s always been protective of others and guarded about herself, but in this episode, as she grapples with the fact that the comfort she’s just become accustomed to is being ripped out from under her, we see just how much the Owl House’s other residents mean to her, her resistance to change, and her refusal to seek help. we see her in a way we haven’t really seen before. raw, emotional, and fracturing. idk I just really like how Eda’s portrayed in this episode, she feels so much more human.

Enchanting Grom Fright means a lot to me because of the representation, but it’s also a genuinely good episode. the representation here, as well as in Knock Knock Knockin’ On Hooty’s Door and Eclipse Lake (awesome girlfriend!!) is something I never had on TV when I was younger, and it means so so so much to me that the kids growing up now do have it. also in terms of Eclipse Lake Hunter’s mental breakdown hit way too hard, and Amity’s “I saw everything as an opportunity to exist” hit even harder. also. Knock Knock Knockin On Hooty’s Door has major development for every character. King gets powers and his dad attempts to get contact with him, Eda confronts her curse head on and finally learns to fully accept it as part of her and harpy Eda is here now, plus we see even more of Eda’s past relationship with Raine, how the curse made things worse, how she refused help, etc. very very neat episode.

I have no idea if any of this made sense. it is past the hours of coherent thoughts.

I find it funny how Willow is scared of ladybugs and how people say it looks unusual since she loves plants, but didn't you know? Grass type pokemons are weak against bug type.

C'mon y'all, how could we miss this? Clearly Willow is a Pokémon trainer, which explains both her fear of ladybugs and how much effort she puts into caring for her plants. Duh.

(In reality, I didn't know that about Pokémon! That's a cool tidbit. I never wondered much why Willow was scared of ladybugs, even though they are good for plants. Fears are rarely logical anyway.)

Edric

How I feel about this character: I feel like Edric’s kinda a jerk, but a jerk that could be redeemed and turn out to be a pretty interesting and funny character.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: No one, but according to Dana, someone stood Edric up at Grom, which means that there is or was someone he had a crush on.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Gosh, I’m not sure. I can’t think of anyone like this for Edric.

My unpopular opinion about this character: The fanon idea of Edric being a sort of goofy wingman is not at all accurate with what we’ve seen in the show. He’s been cruel and selfish at times.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I hope the show acknowledges the wrong things that Edric has done and has him improve as a person, as opposed to pretending as if he was never mean, which I fear they may do.

Thanks for the ask! Sorry it doesn’t include many new opinions, I know I’ve talked about most of these things before.

Imagine Amity's grom card for Luz but it's written "get out of my school"

Wait...

Looking at the way the note was written, it actually could have ripped so that the top half said “Luz, Will you go.” Imagine if Luz had picked THAT up.

“I mean... I guess I’ll go...” “LUZ THAT’S NOT WHAT I MEANT”

amity obviously notices the spider on the back of luz’s head. she could have warned luz that it was there, but no, she’s too much of a gay disaster around luz to say anything to prevent luz from slamming her head into the mud seven seconds later.

enchanting grom fright really knows how to pack a punch. not only is amity’s crush on luz revealed and we get a badass dance fight, but both amity and luz’s worst fears are revealed which gives us a ton of insight into their characters, and then at the end we learn that luz has some sort of doppelgänger? that episode is a wild ride from start to finish and every time you think it’s over another twist comes and slaps you in the face.

Anyone else curious to hear what PROM would have looked like? The idea that it’s an “offering” as opposed to a battle is intriguing. Was the prom queen supposed to be sacrificed? It’s unlikely that a storyline where a character came that close to dying would air, but this was likely in a very early stage of production. If it wasn’t a sacrifice, what were they offering the maiden for? Did she have to complete some sort of dangerous task? I would like to learn more.

Here’s my idea:

Long ago, the Perennial Ritual Offering Maiden was a ritual that did actually sacrifice a maiden to hold some ancient demon (I’ll just refer to it as Grom). Eventually, it was discovered that Grom didn’t actually need sacrifices to remain sealed, just a ritual that it believed would seal it. Principal Bump adapted the actual sacrifice ritual into an elaborate, realistic stage play of sorts, shortened the event’s name to P.R.O.M., and made a school dance around it.

It’s always been an inside joke/tradition among students to pretend the maiden is really going to be sacrificed (the more people pretend it’s real, the more Grom believes it’s real, right?), so when Luz tells Willow and Gus that there’s prom in the human realm they don’t think they need to explain anything. Amity would probably explain what actually happened to Luz, if she wasn’t so nervous about asking Luz to the dance. Cue some misunderstandings, a touch of angst as Luz is convinced Amity is really going to be sacrificed, and Luz trying to take Amity’s place at the last second. And of course, Lumity dance at the end.

help i love this and want to read this so badly
