Foggy, can you not talk to me like a lawyer and just talk to me?

you know what stood out to me the first time I watched this scene? I kept waiting for him to call her his “beautiful” friend (and we know canonically that he does find her beautiful), yet his chosen adjectives are “amazing, kind, brilliant” which just…is so in-character for Foggy and shows what a wonderful person he is.

Actually just kidding the “and I didn’t know” stood out to me too because we’ve all been there, right? When a friend is suffering and we find out too late? And we feel terrible for the friend, plus there’s the added guilt of feeling like we failed to notice and failed to help? Yet despite that one line, Foggy never makes this scene about him. It’s about Karen, and the “I didn’t know” line strikes me not as self-centered or primarily a reflection of Foggy’s feelings but as an apology.

honestly kind of love, though, that karen got so much shit from dudebros while the shows were on – they were so loud about it, that they sort of swamped out how much people love her. and now at the very concept that her and foggy either won’t be there, at all, or if they are there would probably be recast literally the whole rest of the fanbase is like, ‘um actually they’re integral to these characters wtf???’ and it’s not just the characters, themselves, not being there that people are upset about. it’s also specifically deborah and elden not being the actors to portray them. i think disney really thought people wouldn’t be too upset. that is so hilarious. i love that everyone is collectively like ‘oof this ain’t it’.

a matt without foggy and karen. a frank without karen. oof.

i assume that, like, all of nyc is in on a conspiracy to hide the truth about blunt force head trauma from daredevil. like, to… protect his feelings??? the cops must be like “oh, yeah buddy, you really dinged those bad guys up! they’ll be feeling it for weeks! they’ll really think twice about Doing A Crime again.” when like, in reality, they are dead. they are dead people. they got busted in the head six times with a carbon fibre rod, and they died en route. i mean lets get real. daredevil showing up to the hospital with self-help books about starting over, “i’d like to drop these off for some of the bikers,” and the nurses all look at each other like, “uh… oh, honey, they were transferred to metro… north…. yeah, insurance thing. we’ll hold onto those for you.” they are all dead matt they’re dead. church is cool but maybe you should spend some more time on the Medical Side of wikipedia

You know what really felt Daredevil-like about episode 3 of Hawkeye (aside from the obvious comparisons to the one-take car chase and “Uncle”)? The fight scene between Clint and Maya. It’s mainly because in Daredevil, the show never downplayed the strengths of their characters. For example, the first fight scene between Matt and Dex.

You have Matt Murdock dominating the fight when it’s close quarters. It’s not even a fair fight, Dex was getting washed. But as soon as the fight goes long range, Bullseye starts winning. And all of this makes sense because Matt is one of the greatest martial artists in Marvel while Bullseye’s main strength is accuracy.

In Hawkeye, Echo dominates the fight when it’s close quarters. Sure, Clint can hold his own, but he was clearly not winning when he was fighting Echo’s fight. But as soon as he got his bow and arrow, he won. So neither character’s abilities got downplayed and Echo still came off as a badass, even though she lost. That’s very much in line with how Daredevil approached the fight scenes and I love it.
