I love learning about little details in films and one thing I'm curious about is that Mirabel used her lips to point to her gift to the kid (can't remember his name) and I was wondering as to why its a thing.
I don’t know why we do this we just do jajajajaja (his name is Antonio!)
we just use our lips, hands etc to express feelings and emotions in general the body language plays important role in the way we communicate
for example Camilo slapping his fingers when he is excited (it’s basically just slapping your index finger with the rest of your fingers) we do it when we are excited or in general when there is a lot of emotions (my brother does it every time he starts eating jajajaja he loves eating)
or Abuela Alma doing this gesture with her fingers - you know it’s serious when somebody does it
or Pepa just throwing her hands around also when she has a lot of emotions inside or her, when she explains something etc
I really don’t know why we are doing this we just do jajajaja so I’m sorry I can’t explain it better
I wonder how many times the Colombian flag was hidden in the film
okay so let’s get into it 🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴
on the skirt - many background characters wear it
on Isabela’s dress and in the background
I think Ozma Pezmuerto’s beads in her hair are also in the colors of Colombian flag!
I’m pretty sure there is way more of it and one day I will watch Encanto only to count it!
This has probably been asked before, but like, Julieta can heal anything right? So why does Mirabelle need glasses? Shouldn’t her mom be able to fix her sight?
I’m not sure 100% but I think Jared Bush (I think it was him) said that’s because bad eyesight is a part of who Mirabel is and Julieta wouldn’t like to change it. The same with Agustín. Julieta could fix it but she doesn’t want to
What’s your favorite outfit in encanto? (I love Mirabels dress it’s just so detailed I could stare at it for hours)
Dolores’ because she is my favourite in general but yeah Mirabel’s is awesome all the details look so gorgeous 😩
I also loves Felix’s and Isabela’s after What Else Can I do
small cultural & Colombia/Latin related details from Encanto 🇨🇴 (part 3)
alpargatas - the shoes that Mirabel and other women in Encanto wear
COLOMBIA (obvious one and not that small but I love it, also it’s in the colors of Colombian flag)
capibaras - animals native to Colombia
mochilas - bags that Mirabel and other villagers carry
Día de las velitas (Day of the Little Candles)
wax palms - the palms that grow in Encanto are national trees of Colombia (they are also the highest palms)
Agustín playing En Barranquilla Me Quedo
there is so much more cultural and Colombian details in Encanto but I am not able to show them all in gifs unfortunately
the flowers that grow on Isabela’s balcony are bugambilias - you can see them mostly in Cartagena de Indias. all of the flora and fauna showed in Encanto is typical for Colombia
all of the villagers (Madrigals also) are catholic - you can see the church and the priest - it’s an important part of our culture and traditions
there is a song called Colombia, Mi Encanto sung by Carlos Vives (I refuse to believe there can be Colombians who don’t know who he is)
so yeah that would be it
I think I won’t be doing more of this because it takes a lot of time and phone storage but I’m really grateful I was able to share those cultural facts about Encanto with more people
thank you for reading! <3
small cultural & Colombia/Latin related details from Encanto 🇨🇴 (part 2)
Julieta using her fingers instead of a spatula to flip the food (also the arepas 🫓)
men in the village playing Tejo - national sport of Colombia (also the Colombian flag on the boards)
the small windmills in Mirabel’s basket are of the color of Colombian flag
so are the umbrellas
las palenqueras - dresses that Dolores wears, typical for Afro-Colombian women especially in Cartagena
silletas - the things that those men carry on their back (no idea how to explain it in English)
Puente de Boyacá (the Bridge of Boyacá located at the Bogotá-Tunja highway)
note: I understand that some of those things may be also common in other cultures but please avoid commenting things like this. Now we are focusing on the Colombian aspects of this movie
You dislike Mirabel But she's the protagonist? (I'm not telling you what to believe or anything, but it's very weird especially since you two are close in age.)
I have no reason to dislike her it’s not like I can justify my opinion somehow I have literally no reason she just isn’t in my type (?) I really don’t know how to explain it I’m weird I often don’t like the main characters 😭
your unpopular Encanto opinion?
I don’t like Mirabel
well maybe no “I don’t like her” but she’s my less favourite character
I don’t have any particular reason tho
Ok, so, when we were little, me and my cousin built a little house with chairs and he named it "house-some" (as in "awesome") and I just think it would be something that Camilo and Mirabel would do
YES OMG this is so cool like just imagine
they would make it once and they would never ruin it it would be their “secret” spot
and maybe Mirabel would go there after her failed gift ceremony? and Camilo would come there to comfort her. And they would fall asleep there and their parents would look for them everywhere and Dolores would just show them the spot
there's something i love about luisa's relationship with mirabel;
luisa is open about wanting to protect her family, and that shows through in the scenes in 'surface pressure'
but even further, luisa never blames mirabel after losing her her strength - she tells their abuela they had a conversation, but she doesn't say
"i talked to mirabel and now my strength is gone" in a way that feels like she blames mirabel. it's abuela who blames mirabel (to be fair, lots of people would come to that conclusion - even we as the viewer are led to that conclusion) but even throughout the rest of the movie, luisa never says it's mirabel's fault and i think that speaks to how good luisa and mirabel's relationship is. luisa and mirabel have such a healthy sister dynamic and i love that.
yess I love it so much
imagine having that kind of relationship with your siblings 🥲
Agustín’s costume is inspired by his daughters - on his socks we can see barbells and Mirabel inspired design
He also wear a flower to honour Isabela
by Griselda Sastrawinata-Lemay
I love all of those details
