Shallllooomm I just wanna say that I love your blog and I love you and seeing you so happy over Encanto makes me happy because I can imagine how I would feel if Disney made a movie based on Israel or Jews in general (I really hope one day they will!) and I would act totally the same as you hahahah

Please never stop running this blog because I see how much happiness it brings you and believe me it brings happiness to others too! Sending much love from Yerushalayim ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hooolaaa thank you so so much I’m so glad you like this blog because you are right it really brings me happiness and I’m even more happy when I see other people being happy about it. I can imagine how happy you would be if Disney made a movie based on your religion/country/culture because they did make one based on mine and the feeling is just you know it’s hard to explain but you feel even more in love with your country. I’m not planning on stopping running this blog anytime soon so don’t worry jajajajaj sending love from Cartagena ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

do Colombians and Latinos in general mix Spanish with English how it was in Encanto? I mean for example instead of “your uncle” do you say “your tío”?

well I don’t know how about Latinos in English speaking countries but in Colombia we don’t do it because we just don’t speak English we just speak Spanish. this is why I don’t really like watching Encanto in English it feels weird, mixing languages etc but I understand why they did it like that

Lgbt colombians & latino people exist whether you like it or not ❤ people making lgbt headcanons about Encanto characters doesnt erase shit because theyre headcanons, literally have no bearing on canon. Just block tags or something and stop telling queer poc what they can and cant headcanon. Get well soon.

Tell me you didn’t read any of my posts without telling me

I’m queer Latina. Colombian Latina. Oh and I’m person of color too. Wow thank you for telling me I exist

I literally stated multiple times that people can make LGBT headcanons in Encanto just remember to stay respectful and not make it about yourself if you are not Colombian. I do not have a problem with gay Isabela for example I have a problem with white people and non Colombian/Latino people in general headcanoning her as gay and make it their representation. Please learn how to read before you come into my inbox to attack me because in the context of my posts your message makes 0 sense

small cultural & Colombia related details from Encanto 🇨🇴 (part 4)

Vélez Santander trajes típicos - the dress that Mirabel wears is a traditional dress from Vélez (town in the Santander department in Colombia)

men wearing the guayabera shirts

drinking coffee at young age

the village was inspired by Barichara - town in the Santander department in Colombia

the acordeones, tambora and the tiple - typical instruments for Colombian music, traditional in Colombia

Agustín saying ¡Miércoles! - the literal meaning is “Wednesday” but in Colombia we use it as a light version of “oh shit” jajajaja

cucharón - HUGE wooden spoon

our habits - eating meals together

the church, the cross, priest and praying - most of Colombians are religious and Catholicism plays a huge role in our culture and daily life

Bruno’s toc toc toc toc tocó madera - tocar madera (knocking on wood) something that we do when we don’t want bad things to happen

I know I’ve said the next part of it would be short but then I decided to rewatch Encanto (for the 182628th time) and wrote down all of the things I was be able to notice about Colombia and my culture and yeah it turned out there is so much more to say and I may do part 5

Once again I want to say that I know that some of those things can also appear in other cultures but please avoid comments like “it’s not Colombian thing it’s [here a country/ethnicity] thing” etc because now we are focusing on the Colombian aspects of the movie plus such comments make me uncomfortable

I would also be grateful if you could avoid commenting about Raya and how you are mad because Disney disrespected your culture and how they only cared about Colombia and not Southeast Asia. I understand you are mad and you have absolutely right to be but please don’t do it under my post

Hey I wanted to tell you ! I'm a french college student, and in our spoken spanish / latin american culture class (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not 100% sure of the english terms) our teacher gave us the chance to chose whatever subject for our last presentation... And with my friend, we picked Encanto and the cultural rep in it ! And your blog helped a lot to point out the little things, for a latina insight and for a base of research !

I think without your posts, we would have struggled a bunch, so thanks for giving all this information to everyone :ooo

wow thank you so much I’m glad I could help!

is there any chance I could see the presentation tho?

What are arepas like? I’ve never had cassava root

Avatar

guys I’m sorry for wording it badly yucas are not the same thing as arepas

those are arepas - the things that Julieta flips with her fingers

and yucas (cassavas) are those slightly oblong yellowish/brownish things next to arepas on the big table

I’m sorry for wording it badly! And I don’t really know who to explain the taste arepas just taste like arepas jajajaja I’m sorry

and you know what annoys me? that you made a kids movie about some stupid ass catholicism like why can’t they just be? not everything need to be religious or whatever pls you know that this is triggering to so many people and you still decide to post it? damn istg i hate christians

But this is a blog about Encanto and Encanto is about Colombian family who is Catholic. They have church in the village, they have priest, they were celebrating Catholic holiday

It’s not like that I made this up, it’s not headcanon it’s literally canon

As I said before I understand that it can be triggering to many people and this is why I always put trigger/content warning

This is a blog about Encanto, about being Colombian, about my culture. And Catholicism is a part of it and I am not going to stop. If you don’t like it please don’t follow me/block me whatever but don’t come to my inbox and tell me you hate Christians because it’s just hurtful

also please stop in general with those hateful messages I’m in school now and I’m hiding because I started crying while reading it just stop please

do you mind telling how Colombian Christmas looks like and how different it is from the popularized idea of Christmas? Are there any traditions that are exclusively Colombian and not found in other countries, even the neighboring ones?

Btw I love your content and I hope you're having a good day! ^^

so we start celebrating in October

well maybe not like an official celebrations you know all of the decorations in shops and on the streets start in October, the whole Christmas vibe etc. And I know it is like that in all countries that celebrate Christmas now but I think what’s special is that we actually like it

the official Christmas celebrations start with Día de las velitas (Day of the little Candles) and it takes place on 7th December night and 8th December morning also sometimes. We go on streets to light candles and lanterns and it’s really like we all do it, the streets are really crowded in Cartagena where I live we do it together not only with my family but with my neighbours etc

from 16th December to the Christmas Eve on 24th December we have something like Novena de Aguinaldos and these are prayers which we do all together with family and neighbours, every prayer also takes place in different houses you know for example one can be at my house and for another we go to our neighbours but sometimes we also just pray with family and sometimes it’s just an excuse to spend time together, eat, party etc (I would love to see Madrigals and other villagers doing it)

we also have aguinaldos these are games we play during the Christmas time mostly kids of course but adults and teenagers too it’s fun

kids also write Cartas al Niño Dios in early December and these are letters in which the kids write what they would like to get as a present to Jesus Baby

we have Cena de Navidad, we eat the main Christmas meal during the Christmas Eve (24th) and after it we sometimes go to Midnight mass and we stay up all night and this is also when we get presents (I know that in US they are given in the morning) and it’s not Santa Claus who brings them but Jesus Baby, we sing some songs etc

and on 28th we have Día de los Inocentes and it’s basically like April Fool’s Day we do some pranks jokes and it’s like getting yourself in a mood of New Year’s Eve (this is definitely Camilo’s favourite day of the year jajajajajajaja)

I love Christmas for real and maybe it’s not that much special bur it’s for sure special for me

ayy this is so long I’m sorry I hope it’s not to messy and understandable. Thank you so much I hope to have a good day too!
