Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is on fire. I’m not posting a pic bc it depresses me too much to look at it but here’s a source if you need one. Some things:

  • The fire started because of renovation work. It’s an accident, as far as anybody knows.
  • Because of the renovation work, a lot of the art (statues and things like that) in the cathedral had already been removed. Firefighters are working to save as much as possible
  • The stonework will probably survive 
  • This isn’t the first time the cathedral has been damaged. It’s 900 years old, and France has had a pretty bloody history in that time.
  • At this point the roof and spire are completely destroyed and the stained glass is lost
  • it’s awful. It’s awful to look at. It’s a horrible loss to all of us. Being sad is normal and you don’t have to feel stupid if you feel sad. 
  • It’s been rebuilt before and it’ll be rebuilt again.
