Encanto Infection AU!
This came to me on a whim but I think it is worth sharing. It's a very rough idea so feel free to add your ideas!
(THE HOUSE IS ALIVE.)
Essentially Abuela begins to become anxious about her age and the fact that when she dies- she cannot look after everyone anymore. So she attempts to find a way to live longer. However, it goes wrong and she falls ill. The family grow concerned after she fails to leave her room for a few days. They investigate and her body has become fused to the floor- fleshy veins connecting her to the walls and the candle.
They freak out (naturally) and try to save her. But the fleshy appendages fight back, trying to preserve her.
The illness spreads throughout the Encanto. Those who become infected have wax begin to seep out of their eyes/ears/mouths and or wounds. The infected are hostile to those who try to stop them from their journey to Casita. When infected arrive at the home, they will bash themselves into the walls repeatedly (very gore-y I know) so that they can fuse themselves to the house, giving their 'life force' to the home which in turn provides Abuela with more life?
The house becomes less and less brick-like, as it begins to breathe- have a pulse. (Monster house core)
The house can also attack people? (think of when it began to fall and was using itself to protect people)
Additionally, the infected are actually afraid of fire/bright light and will seek out dark places to hide (Inspired by Cargo 2017). Meaning they'll hide in surrounding forests and lunge at people nearby so they too can become infected and give their lives to the candle.
(Mirabel is immune obv... cure as per usual)
