River Song - who has been played by Alex Kingston since 2010 – was mentioned repeatedly in Saturday night’s episode (Extremis) of the BBC drama, leaving fans hopeful that she will rejoin the show, six months after her ‘final scenes’ were shown in the Christmas special.
