I have to say the 8 and River dynamic was fabulous! I wish there was more of it. Whenever she met with 8, River kept her identity hidden with some sort of holographic disguise. When they had adventures together it was often done only through voice or with River wearing a disguise. Their interactions were not overtly flirty nor were they romantic but they really feel so good together. Even if he didn’t know her, I think he knew that she certainly was an equal and treated her that way.
The conversation also confirms that for River this is after the 24 years in Darillium.
