Last night I had a looong movie-like dream about skekNa and skekShod, but all I remember clearly is this one scene of them being guided through the desert by a gelfling. They were traveling towards a tall, tower-like structure that rose from a crater, but I have no clue what the structure was for or who might have built it. Maybe that's what the characters were trying to find out, too. In any case, I wanted to do a quick sketch of this scene because I liked the ominous yet peaceful atmosphere.

I made this in case anyone needs a variety of refs to interpret these 4′s skin tones from - I know it’s pretty hard to see while watching the show given the puppets’ shiny skin in a lot of dramatic lighting scenes, but when crossreferencing with several screenshots, merchandise and illustrations, it’s easy to tell that they’re darker skinned!
Kylan particularly is explicitly described as such in the books, Rian is consistently depicted as darker in merchandise, and while Naia and Gurjin’s skin tone flickers to include some paler greens and yellows, given their hairstyles and facial features, they are absolutely coded as POC!
TDC is a really important piece of media, all because of its daring artistry and vibrant creativity, its crucial recognition of the beauty and spirituality to be found in life and nature, its themes of overcoming systemized racial propaganda, inclusivity of feminine and gender nonconforming characters into the main cast, its devotion to kindness, community and understanding even in the darkest of conflicts…
…and, because, unlike a lot of high fantasy stories, it takes inspiration from various indigenous and nonwhite cultures, customs and philosophies, and represents through these both through its numerous clans, and in its main cast of characters. it is hurtful to be represented in media, but have it be overlooked and erased in the process.
it’s vital that we recognize and honour this, and give our focus, understanding and empathy towards making fanbases a safe and respectful place for fans of colour to engage with and see themselves in! please, give your honest and open minded attention to them when they speak up about these very valid concerns.

Sorry I took so long to respond! Real life kinda got in the way and things Irl could be going better, but no need to dwell on that. Also I wanted to think about how I wanted to reply, but honestly I should’ve just answered naturally, so that’s what I’m gonna do. I just got a little nervous because I look up to you a lot haha! It really means a lot to me that you, and a lot of people really liked my stuff. My time in the TDC fandom was something special. I’ll probably come back someday, but it was an experience that was incredibly unique. It helped me hone my skills and I met some of my closest friends through it and I appreciate every second of it.
Also that Thra-Athon ink I did last year is probably one of my favorites too! It took a long time to make but it turned out beautiful. Thank you so much for your kindness Eliane. I really treasure our friendship.
As for lineart, I’d suggest a lot of pairence, and being able to forgive yourself if you make a mistake. Especially traditionally which you cant undo. (Which this piece is yikes!) when inking, if you mess up the lineart, a good trick is to try and fix it by turning it into something else. Just keep on moving and improving! Just, oh my goodness. I’m incredibly grateful for all of these memories. Thank you all for keeping up with me so far.
My relationship with Dark Crystal is bittersweet, but I’m glad it happened.
