"Hmmm.... Let's see. I'm sure I have a book somewhere that might have the information you're looking for." Keathan unfolds themselves from on top of the floor cushion, picking around the scattered papers and dishware from their most recent research session. Kizuna stayed by the fire, tail curled tightly around him. Everything in Keathan's apartment was very, well, them-sized. Not a lot of room for someone twice their height.
Keathan looks up at the towering wall of books that dominated most of the room, occasionally pointing and muttering to themselves before letting out an "Ah!" and began scaling a tall stepladder nearby. Each rung was spaced nearly half their height apart, and Kizuna couldn't help getting up to steady it, hand hovering nervously in the air behind them. 'Please be careful-' he mouths behind his mask, hands otherwise occupied for signs as well as Keathan not currently looking at him.
"Oh- I'm, I'm sure it's on this shelf...." They look back at Kizuna with a furrowed brow that relaxes into a smile. "Don't- I'm quite alright, Kizuna. I reach these quite often alone-" There was a small noise of effort as they reached upwards, slippered feet tipping dangerously forward on the top step.
For Kizuna, in that instant there was that familiar yank in his stomach urging him to move, now. Following without a second thought he was already in the air as Keathan slipped off the edge with a shriek.
The corner of a book jabs into Kizuna's thigh as he lands on the ladder. He hooks a foot in between the rungs to not go over the other side himself, tail also whacking into it and coiling wherever it finds purchase. The ladder goes up on two feet for a mere second as his momentum starts to tip the whole thing over, his other leg well placed to kick out against the pillar to slam it back to the floor.
Keathan falls hard with a pained wheeze- but not nearly as far as they expected. The light blinds them slightly as they squint at the upside down scenery, head spinning from their fluttering heart.
Their nails dig into thick fabric- a limp foot slips off the edge of a step again- but they're supported. "O-Oh," They think they say, "Um." They look over to Kizuna, sun spots stained into their vision.
"........"
"On.... On second thought, K-Kizuna. Would you be a dear and get that, that- It's red, with three spine ridges at the top..... And, um. T-thank you. I'll- I'll be more careful next time."
