it kinda sucks that ppl particularly in the rich imperial countries see Linux and FOSS software as like a fun hobby, while for a lot of ppl it's basically THE way to use a computer.
like hey actually a lot of ppl rely on Linux projects to actually be able to do computing at all, and sometimes people get really weird about that (see how weird ppl are about Red StarOs in the DPRK, because the idea of ppl in north korea wanting to use computers is funny apparently)
like completely regardless of privacy concerns with red star, the almost lolcow attitude towards it is absolutely driven by racism, and that attitude carries over to the way people view similar projects in a lot of countries.
"i don't want to be reliant on big tech" - american: wow so cool, unpeel yourself from Microsoft and Google! more power to you!
"I don't want to be reliant on big tech" - global south: woa look at those hilarious foreigners thinking they're smart and can use computers haha
the hobbyist mindset also means you get people very reluctant to add basic language or accessibility support for things because in their minds the only people using linux are anglophone men in their 40's who could just be using windows anyway
