Like mother, like daughter; like uncle, like niece.

I saw CGX prompts at the Chocolate Box exchange for Pusa & Chang Ge 1. connecting over his sister/her mother + 2. verbally sniping at each other; and I couldn’t resist. My only regret is that the brief snark here isn’t so merciless as in canon, because omg @ these two. XD

New ½ chapter is gonna come out soon, but the next development between these two will take a while, so I might as well draw headcanons.

But seriously, would you marry someone who placed a blade near your neck twice? (I would pffft!).  Sorry, Sun.

Read in however direction you want (I just realized that both way works lol)

what happened to xia da? I saw another post saying song of the long march is suspended because of issues and there will be no more chapters?

I was just about to make a post about this.

Yes, what you saw in that other post is correct. Chang Ge Xing will be on hold indefinitely due to the author’s health. (╥_╥)

After getting back the results of a recent check-up from the hospital, Xia Da learned that she needs an extended period of time-off for rest and treatment. She said that she will do her best to cooperate with treatment, though she did not mention any estimated return date.

So right now, we are left at chapter 61, and what a point it is to be left hanging at. There are so many questions that I was looking forward to get answers for. Oh well. Artists and writers, please keep up your works. I will be relying on you to make it through this difficult time.

Another thing we learn from Xia Da’s post (it’s more like an article) is the reason why the drama and game are taking forever (and why there’s no more exhibition). Apparently, Xia Da’s representative(?) from Summer Zoo Studio makes a mess of everything, to put it extremely lightly. I can’t believe she had to work through all that mess. And has there been more exhibitions being organized, we might have even gotten one in North America (hey, you never know). I’m still a bit confused though. After she leaves Summer Zoo, what would happen to all these in-the-work deals like the drama and the likes? Does Summer Zoo retain the rights to Xia Da’s previous works and will continue these deals in her place?

Back on the main topic, Xia Da have taken lots of breaks before due to health-related matters, but I didn’t realize how serious her health problem is. And to think she’s been working all this time…… Her work ethic is very much admirable.

In the end though, health is the most important thing a person can have. So Xia Da, please have a good rest. We wish you a speedy recovery and hope to see you back on your feet again soon.

Hopefully within a year.

[Sesame Pancake Drabbles Part III ] (See Part I here and Part II here)

In the Qin residence, the maidservants try to spread the love :3

PS: @justforreplying I know that this probably wasn’t what you had in mind when you said you wished for “some comics around Xu Feng and Shi Ba”, but if it counts for any thing, there’s 2 of them on the same page here…? Also shout out to @cang-ye-ji and @messysketchpad for the lovely CGX fanart \o/

[Sesame Pancake Drabbles Part II ] (See part I here and part III here).

Ever wondered how the maidservants of the Qin residence saw their Young Master and Young Mistress? No..? I did…

Read from right to left!

*To be part of a collection of CGX comic shenanigans entitled [Chang An Chronicles] Not sure how far I’ll go with this (it’s meant to be just a couple of short drabbles) but we’ll see! :)

Putting this up here before the storm that is commissions.

Throw-back Wednesday to that one chapter.  I usually like men in black/dark clothing so Sun just looks absolutely divine in this chapter.  I imagine he started to notice Chang Ge’s feminine features more and got frustrated bc god he thought they were brothers pffft.

I have so much emotion about the new chapter that drawing is the only way I can vent out these feelings (of happiness and frustration b/c these two are hnnnngg).

Wait. Are they going to make an animated version of chang ge xing or is it live action?

Avatar

Both. Well, sort of.

An animated manhua of Chang Ge Xing is already out online. It was produced by 燃也Royal and has one season covering the Shuo Prefecture arc and the prequel about Chang-ge’s mom. In other words, it’s ch 1-9 in the manhua. Note that this is not an anime. It is exactly what it sounds like, which is the original manhua arts having special effects added to make them look animated. It may sound a bit strange and boring, but it’s actually quite good. The music and the voice acting are amazing as well. It certainly has a different feel from an anime, but not an inferior one imo. The song Chang Ge Xing that I posted the translation for a while ago was actually written to be the ending theme song for this. The episodes are in Chinese, of course, and Chinese subs are included in each episode. But even if you don’t know any Chinese, you can still follow the storyline as well as what the characters say since they’re identical to the manhua. I definitely recommend you guys to watch it. As of now, there has been no news about season 2. Apparently, they’re still working out the paperwork and stuff. I guess they wanted to try one season first to see if the series will be popular.

If any of you wanna watch it, here’s the playlist of the entire season 1 on YouTube. And just so you know, ep 1 is actually clip #4 in the playlist. Clip #1 is the MV of the theme song, #2 a demo trailer of the voice actors, and #3 is a clip of greetings from the voice actors. The last clip is not an episode but a special MV dedicating to Governor Gongsun Heng. My favorite episode is ep 12 because it has Chang-ge and Sun’s first meeting. Plus, the ending of this of this episode is just so beautiful, since it’s also the season ending. So yeah, definitely recommended.

As for the live action, there is a C-drama with the same name in the work right now. I’ve first made a post about it here and a more recent one here. To summarize, the drama was first announced in April 2015, saying that filming was going to begin at the end of that year. However, we didn’t hear anything else about it until January 2016, when it was announced that the drama had just received the filming permit. The permit says that filming was scheduled to begin in March 2016 and that the filming cycle is 12 months. Not too sure if this means the estimated filming time is 12 months or if the permit allowed for a period of 12 months to film. Either way, here we are, in mid-September 2016, and there’s still no further news about it, not even about the cast. Either there’s been another delay, or everything is being kept on the down-low, though I’m not sure why you would want to do so. To avoid backlash from the fans for as long as possible maybe? Well, in August, there was an article about the hot IPs of 2016, and Chang Ge Xing is among them, so I guess it’s still on. I’ll be on the look-out and post any news I might come across.

Sorry for the super long answer. Hope this answers your question!!!

Can you please tell me what's the conversation between Chang Ge and Sun is about ? btw I'm talking about the new chapter which is out

I was going to defer to @busy-old-fool and @bridges-you-cross with regard to the chapter translations, since it’s kinda their thing and they always do such bang up jobs, but since you asked…

I usually don’t draw straightforward shippy stuffs like this unless ship is confirmed canon/series is over, but you know what…after reading @my-everskies’s fanfic (5th sketch is from the fic) and seeing the new raw chapters, I just let it go.

So here’s to the small but awesome Chang Ge Xing fandom, esp. a shout out to @bridges-you-cross and @busy-old-fool for always posting updates about the series.

This whole series is such a tease lmao.

Will be posting ladybug/batman crossover stuffs soon.

do you have any updates about the drama?? i can't read simplified (i know traditional) so navigating my searches is really hard :(

Sorry for the late reply! I haven’t heard anything, but a quick search led me to this page: http://www.ijq.tv/yingshi/1034.html

According to the site, Chang Ge will be played by Cyndi Wang? I haven’t seen any of her works, so I can’t comment. Not to mention I don’t know how reliable this intel is…

Old Xia Da Interview

First of all, this is not a new interview. It’s an old one, that was partially translated before. (think it’s from 2015, though I don’t know for sure)

I’d not seen the original article nor the full translation floating around tumblr, and thought that there might be people who prefer to read things first hand (basically people like me), so here:

(summary: she talks about her process, stuff about working with the Japanese publisher(s)+history related stuff+sun and chang ge’s future+ potential ending spoilers)

Hey everyone, ch 59.1 came out a few days ago, and the reaction from everyone was nearly instantaneous. Translations were popping up everywhere. And I understand why. I was so excited after reading it that I gushed over it for days. Actually, I still am gushing over it.

Now, I thought about whether to post my translation up as well, since there are already so many around, and they’re all so good! I finally decided to do it since it doesn’t hurt, but I figure that since I haven’t posted ch 58.2 yet, I’ll go over it first before doing the translation for 59.1.

And what makes 59.1 so awesome, you ask? Well, you probably know it by now, but if you don’t, let’s just say that uncle Pusa finally learns what it means to eat his own words. This is also an example of why we should be careful of what we say. Alright, here goes.

Awesome post!

To be honest, Chapter 58.2 was a bit difficult for me as I couldn’t really get what was going on with the end of ch 58.2 with the new character (I hate the dialog from the Tang elite as it can be in semi-classical court-style speech which is hard to understand). The background @bridges-you-cross gave is excellent.

The sales reward analogy made me laugh?! Kinda comedic but totally describes it well!

I do have to say that even the Chinese readers were mistaking that Pusa was selling off his niece based on the chinese comments that I saw. At some points in time, some Chinese readers were also confused by Sun’s condition that they not be asked to attack the Turks (seeing he’s actually Khitan so they thought it was a Typo by Xia Da and he really meant to protect Khitan).

This goes to show that sometimes the subtleties are hard even for the native speakers ^^”>….

But my opinion is the same as @bridges-you-cross ; Pusa was just dangling carrots at Sun because I am sure he could tell there was something in the air between Chang Ge and Sun. I don’t think Pusa would ever normally agree to them marrying :P. His precious niece is like all he has left of his precious sister after all.

But back to 58.2; the additional background info at the end is very important since Xia Da is not going to stray from actual historical incidents…I guess shit will hit the fan again soon…

Thank you very much for the fantastic translation and historical info!

The part about Pusa was my bad. It didn’t occur to me that my choice of words would portray him as a niece selling jerk. Part of it was because there’s a value dissonance that I took for granted - back then, arranged marriages are normal (how much say the spouses have probably differs depending on the family - this applies to men too btw) - and even when the spouses choose to marry, parental/guardian approval is usually still a requirement. I didn’t catch Pusa’s backtracking before justforreplying’s translation, but my original interpretation was less “Kill the Great Khan and I’ll give you my niece as trade-off” and more “You know, if you want to marry my niece you need my blessing, so you might want to be on my good side.” In that context, Sun’s reply is really rather cheeky (though of course, he’s absolutely right). Anyway, I apologize to Uncle Pusa for accidentally slandering him. m(_ _)m

I admit, I groaned when I saw Hao Dou. It seems that every time he shows up, he ends up snitching to Du Ruhui about Chang Ge.  And now they’re going to Uyghur? Who wants to bet that if/when they spot Chang Ge, they’re going to jump to conclusions and think she’s there to make trouble for Tang? After all, Du Ruhui is still under the impression that Chang Ge is the “female scourge” who is prophesied to bring calamity to Tang (though I personally like the theory that it’s referring to  Wu Zetian).

Aand the Sun-Chang Ge parallels marches on. They both need to deal with their conflicting loyalties (Sun to the Great Khan and Khitan; Chang Ge to Tang and her new found family) - I’m interested to see what they’ll decide but at the same time, dreading the fallout (Xia Da’s very good at upping the tension, isn’t she?).
