gonna grow you a place safer than this

@burningcomputerpersona

Currently obsessed with american pop punk band The Wonder Years. This blog is mostly just a collection of things that I'm interested in at the moment, whether it's music or a new fandom or just queer memes in general. I'll probably appear once in a while to reblog a bunch of posts about a new obsession that you didn't follow me for and then vanish off into the unknown again. Current interests include: the wonder years, spanish love songs, hot mulligan, against me, doctor who, etc.

i’d known the reunion with the tardis would make me cry but rewatching, it’s even WORSE, like the pure, unadulterated relief on her face as she walks around, brushing controls and touching pillars, eyes closing, just taking in the fact that she’s home, finally, after SO long, and THEN, she tells the tardis to take her to the 3 very special people she missed, and her hand is SHAKING as she says it and would you look at that, i’m crying again

Noooooooo fuck 😭😭😭

Dark!13 in RotD

Now that we’ve all had a couple of days to process, can we talk about how dark the Doctor′s solution to her Dalek problem really was? Hear me out:

1: The “I’m the Doctor” speech. The realisation that being the Doctor means defeating Daleks. Yes, yes that’s what the Doctor does but it’s not the only thing. After having had all that time struggling with her identity, trying to figure out what she is, that’s a really unsettling realisation to come to. After regeneration, she didn’t know who she was either. And back then, she said the one thing she was sure of is that when people need help, she’d never refuse. Whatever happened to “I’m just a traveller.“?

She is defining herself through being the main predator of the most deadly creature in the universe. And there is no doubt in her expression, just silent icy fury.

2: She is toying with and taunting the Daleks. Yes, it is to lure them into a trap but she’s having too much fun. Look at her baring her teeth at them like a predator. She already knows she’s won and she’s enjoying the kill.

3: What she actually does to the Daleks… she doesn’t just trick them or gets rid of them, no she wipes them out without second thoughts. No remorse. Yes, it’s what the Doctor does, they have killed so many Daleks. But remember when the Doctor didn’t kill Davros? When they had the chance to never have the Daleks happen at all if he refused to save their creator? And yet they did because that’s what the Doctor does. Helping people in need, even when they grow up to become their enemies. The 12th Doctor had come such a long way.

4: The way she killed the Daleks: By destroying a TARDIS. This is the worst thing of all, the disregard for the TARDIS. Think of the close relationship she has with her TARDIS, the ways in which it is sentient and they are companions to each other. Look at these lines from “Twelve Angels Weeping”. The spare TARDIS is sentient too and the Doctor has no second thoughts about that. Just wipes it out of existence.

So Doctor, who are you?

“The name I chose is “The Doctor“. The name you chose is like a promise you make.“
“Basic stuff first: Never be cruel, never be cowardly. (…) Remember, hate is always foolish, and love is always wise. Always try to be nice but never fail to be kind.“
“Doctor. The word for healer and wise man across the universe. We get that word from you, you know. But if you carry on the way you are, what might that word come to mean? To the people of the Gamma Forests, the word “doctor” means “mighty warrior.“

Where do we go from here? What will “Doctor” come to mean?

Yep. That feral anger has appeared a few times before now, and she admitted to Ryan she was angry. Her casual sacrifice of that spare TARDIS was in stark contrast to her saying goodbye to the other one she left to be a tree, complimenting it on its choice of exterior. That was what I call “Doctor Sunshine.” This was something darker, maybe someone that punched through a adamantine wall for 3 billion years to reach Gallifrey in a burning rage.

This is the Doctor that snarled in Dhawan!Master’s face and practically spit in his eye. Every now and then, she displays the same dangerous glee he does, not quite as cruel but definitely not kind. Funny how Doctors and Masters run somewhat parallel.

Twelve had an odd sort of affection around Missy, a gentleness, even, a gentility, and it went both ways when she wasn’t being cruel or batshit crazy. It seems like Not!O’s intense fury that bursts through his mercurial, more amiable personality has gotten into Thirteen the more she followed him to Gallifrey’s ruins and brooded. She defied him and said his Matrix mindgames hadn’t broken her, but she may be showing a few hairline cracks.

The First Doctor we know about, who intended to brain an unconscious man with a rock, drugged Babs and Ian and threatened to cast them out of the TARDIS into the void. He’s still down in there somewhere. The Doctor has always been contradictory— Six gave me problems as a child, failing to react to a man’s murder in front of him. Just as the First Doctor needed Barbara, I think Thirteen is going to need Yaz to pick up Ryan’s slack and yank the Doctor back to herself.

I hope the writers are paying attention to what they’ve written and see this. I think they have, although the writing for Jodie is unfortunately a little spotty; she suffers from some of the same challenges as Peter Davison. Whose Doctor also gets brushed off as fluffy and kind and sweet, when he can be ferocious or callous or verbally cutting on occasion. It’s not that one side is a lie. They’re both.

I just hope the shocking move of killing a TARDIS to destroy Daleks. a move as ruthless as the Time Lords they tried not to be like in the Time War, was a sign of some shift within the Doctor (unsettling as that may be) and not a sign of careless writing.

All of this!!!

I love Thirteen’s reunion with the TARDIS and watched the scene several times, it’s on my sixth rewatch that I realized that Jack hasn’t been in the TARDIS for centuries. This is the first time Jack’s been in the TARDIS and that’s when I started paying attention to Jack during the reunion scene and oh:

His face.

Thirteen isn’t the only one who hasn’t seen the TARDIS for a long time.

But also look at his hand as he reaches out to touch the railing:

The way his hands slowly close on it, as if savoring it, grounding himself that this is real. Just like Thirteen does when she touches one of the crystal columns:

LOOK AT HER LITTLE FACE. SHE’S HOME.

Look at how happy Jack is to see the Doctor operate the TARDIS and seeing the TARDIS be operational again.

THEIR FACES.

I want to squish both their faces!

Aww yes XD

Ok but, the doctor is soooo in love with the tardis, like the pure gay energy in that scene was unreal. “my beautiful ghost monument, I’ve missed you” *stares longingly into the distance and runs to her lost love* The doctor is completely without hope, which is a very rare thing, and she thinks that the tardis has abandoned her after her last regeneration but she came back!! ‘It’s alright, it’s me’ (!!!) She full on strokes the door and whispers longingly to it like ‘I’m sorry, I lost my key’ and the tardis just open the door for her, welcoming her home! The way her face lights up with ‘you’ve redecorated, I really like it’ as a play on when the previous doctors always hate the new tardis interiors. She’s not even trying to hide it from her companions, they’re watching her low key make out with a wooden box. That whole scene was so emotional and then, the way the doctor starts up the engine with pure joy, all of it jumbled together from miscellaneous with the hourglass and pedal, all very reminiscent of the RTD era tardis… and then the tardis gives her a biscuit and she’s sO HaPPY!!?!? adorable. OTP forever. To think I would ever ship a character so hard with telephone box this is ridiculous and so so beautiful I love 13 and all her craziness and cleverness with all my god dang heart *mic drop*

Yesss I loved it XD

Hundreds of years of experience and The Doctor STILL can’t fly the TARDIS correctly

TARDIS made for about 6 pilots or 12 hand

Doctor has only two hand

If Doctor would train companions to help fly TARDIS, no more crash boom bang

Ohhhh… oh. I’m not even mad, now. I’m just sort of impressed. Well done, you funky little Time Lord.

River seems to manage just fine so maybe he just can’t fly the thing properly

RIGHT. … I take it all back, you disaster Time Lord!

Remember that time in journeys end where they had to tow the earth back to its correct position ? There WERE six people and 10 WAS teaching them to help fly her and they pulled earth SAFELY back to the milk way where it belonged.

But also River can fly her better, she told 11 the TARDIS only makes that iconic whirring noise because they always leave the handbrake on 😂

But either way , it would be smoother sailing if the Doctor taught all companions to help fly the TARDIS

Thirteen should really teach her fam how to drive the TARDIS

In The Ghost Monument, the doctor steps on a lever and a custard cream comes out. But she couldn't have known that the lever would dispense custard creams, seeing as this is a new feature (also she looks surprised and delighted to see a biscuit come out). So we can assume that when the doctor pressed that lever, she didn't know what it was for. Then does that mean she was just flipping switches at random without actually knowing what she was doing? Or was she stalling so she would get to spend more time with her new friends?
