gonna grow you a place safer than this

@burningcomputerpersona

Currently obsessed with american pop punk band The Wonder Years. This blog is mostly just a collection of things that I'm interested in at the moment, whether it's music or a new fandom or just queer memes in general. I'll probably appear once in a while to reblog a bunch of posts about a new obsession that you didn't follow me for and then vanish off into the unknown again. Current interests include: the wonder years, spanish love songs, hot mulligan, against me, doctor who, etc.

Which Master is your favorite? And which non-canon thoschei do you want to see?

Usually the CurrentTM Master is my favorite. But in the between appearances it fluctuates! I just rewatched The Daemos this weekend so I have a soft spot for Delgado!Master rn

And boy oh boy if 13 and Dhawan!Master wanted to rip each other up I can only imagine how destructive 13 and Simm!Master would be. They would HATEEE each other

the master being sexist is actually very hilarious bc the SECOND they regenerated into missy they were a feminist and the second they regenerated into a man again it was back to being a pig. this bitch really said ‘women’s rights but only for me I think?’ lmfao

1) I actually don’t see how Dhawan Master is sexist at all so help me out, legit question. Like that stuns me and I really genuinely want to know what I’m missing. He shows absolutely no differentiation in the way he treats Thirteen based on the fact that she’s now a woman. His hostility toward her is in no way contingent upon that; rather it’s the whole Timeless Child revelation.  If you mean the “kneel” scene, that was in order to secure himself a desperate sense of regained identity, not because she’s a woman…and he also knelt with her.  Is there something else or?

2) I think Missy’s perception of herself and her gender identity is actually often problematic in both a Watsonian and Doylist context, largely bc Steven Moffat is a white cis upper middle class man and his implicit bias in these many categories of privilege definitely shows (as it does with rtd and chibnall at times, as well).

2) Dis a funny observation except, honestly, I think it’s more like

Fully agree with @sclfmastery on Dhawan Master, and wanna rant a bit about Simm and Gomez incarnations.

RTD’s portrayal of the Master in Series 3 is the worst. Imagine taking a bisexual man who’s grown up in a genderless culture of a species which can change their sex and race every couple of years, and making him misogynistic, racist and homophobic just to show how evil he is, when, you know, all the rest of the things he did are quite enough without being plain illogical. And like yes, it could be logical if he was just saying and doing all these things to spite the Doctor, Martha and Jack, but he was grunting about being killed by a woman when he was literally alone. And that’s not even everything that’s bad with RTD’s portrayal of the Master, but it’s another story for another post.

Op, how is Gomez Mistress a feminist?.. Yes, exactly, she’s “women’s rights but for me only” because the Master doesn’t give a shit about anyone who isn’t them or the Doctor. Being a woman at the time and not wanting to get the treatment we get in no way makes her a feminist, just like you won’t call Dhawan Master anti-racist. To be honest, I can’t even see at all where are you going from.

Anyway, Moffat is the worst thing that ever happened to Doctor Who, and while I still genuinely love his era and his characters (and you know what, I’m fucking reclaiming them, that’s what), he’s a complete indescribable garbage of a man and it shows very much. With Mistress in particular: he regenerates into a woman and SUDDENLY she prefers skirts, a fucking corset, long hair and wears goddamn heels and a shit ton of makeup. While never doing any of that in any of their previous incarnations. And she fucking calls herself Missy. “Missy” is a fucking dismissive word. I’m not fucking calling her that. Ahem, please forgive me for the sudden increase in the amount of swearing… it’s just M*ffat. (And there’s not enough swear words in English.) And the writing itself is misogynistic too. And of course, it’s the female incarnation who gets this ““““redemption arc””””. I bet he wouldn’t do that to a male incarnation.

And the way Moffat wrote Simm is downright disgusting. He’s played the card “the Master is a misogynist when male” again. Oh, and that fucking scene. Yes, we know that the Master wants to fuck themself, could we please not do it like THAT, no one wants to see that, and I’m pretty sure it was not about the Master being attracted to themself but about men seeing women as sexual objects. Moffat sees us as such and cannot wrap his damn head around that it can be not like that, even if the man in question is a fucking alien, he did it with Ninth, Tenth (in those episodes that he was writing for them; at least not on screen with Nine but what he said behind the scenes was the worst thing he ever said) and Eleventh Doctors many times too, in most disgusting ways. I realized right now that it is because he considers it a fact. The sky is blue, Apple’s logo is a bitten apple, my name is Steven and women are sexual objects for men to use.

And to be honest, I don’t know if I would want a female Mistress with Chibnall either.

Well, I mean, of course I would, GIVE ME THE MISTRESS YOU FUCKERS, and I do think things would be better than with Gomez incarnation because Chibnall is not nearly (at least openly) as disgusting as Moffat, but. He is still a misogynist. Look at the Doctor. She is well-written, I LOVE how she is written, but look at her. Her hair, that maaay get messy for a while over the course of action but then always turns back to some fucking plastic. And you know what? Jodie wanted the Doctor to have short hair, but Chibnall “…wanted the hair [she] auditioned with.” Her eyebrows, including right fucking after regenerating and in prison (well, yes, if she regenerated with natural eyebrows and then would do them it would be much worse). Her shaved legs. Her ear piercings when none of the previous Doctors wore them. Her deep neckline. And then comes Martin Doctor with her absolutely perfect costume but with plucked eyebrows (again), earrings (again, and this time more traditionally feminine) and long hair (another-character again).

And believe me, I’m not getting angry at earrings and ear piercings just for the sake of it. I am a gnc woman. My mother tried to convince me several times to wear earrings so that I would “still look like a girl” (even though I have a very feminine body). I know what this is about, and I’m so tired.

But well, yes, I would want a female Mistress from Chibnall, because most likely she would be well written. But anyway, I love Sacha and I don’t want him to regenerate any time soon, I’m so glad we have him.

Well, you know what I want the most? A DW writer who is not a misogynist.

And a writer who is not a white man. We’ve definitely had enough of them.

Ugh this

the master & control

dhawan!master is a synthesis of simm and missy right? i dont know if it’s right to say simm embodied disinhibition (i dont like that thats the word, the word should be hibition but okay) but i do feel pretty confident saying missy is about restraint. and dhawan is both. both control and the lack of control.

it’s like he wants control really badly, but he doesnt quite have it. like, simm!master (okay, again, i might be wrong about this, i dont actually watch his episodes that much) is not in control. of himself, of his environment, exemplified by the drums right? i think hes mostly reacting? and i dont think hes really trying for control either. if he is water in a sea then hes just like ‘these waves are fine’ and he doesnt try to change them really. i think. hes mostly reaction.

and then you have missy who does seem to be grasping for control at every opportunity. the way she reacts to being referred to as anything even remotely “nice” has the same desperately strained vibe as the way 13 clings to her “happy” image. they lock themselves into an inflexible self-concept because what lies beyond that is Scary Things We Don’t Want To Think About. and then  theres the vault. missy does have control i think, mostly, unlike simm. she gives up autonomy in the vault, but not control.

and then dhawan strikes me like, he wants the control that missy had, but he cant quite get his hands on it. he can make really meticulous plans but hes also kinda subject to the whims of his emotions.

this scene in 12x2 i think illustrates it:

MASTER: You should’ve seen me. I was great! She did not have a clue. BARTON: This better work. MASTER: Final calibrations, and then we’ll be ready. All our efforts will come together in a moment of beauty. We’ll all have what we want. BARTON: So you know, I don’t appreciate last-minute changes of plan as I’m about to take off. MASTER: A little chaos is a wonderful thing. Allowed me to swat those flies.

the juxtaposition of those two lines: “all our efforts will come together in a moment of beauty” and “a little chaos is a wonderful thing”

“in a moment of beauty” (look at his eyes, look at the time he takes to look at something thats just pretty, that little nod of satisfaction at the end)

that line demonstrates like, a real appreciation for complex mechanisms working like theyre supposed to? it’s probably not an accident that the doctor finds the silver lady statue next to the difference engine and we get this nice shot:

(ada lovelace also used her maths skills for gambling right? is she a master parallel? because byron is a doctor parallel. that might be interesting.)

anyway, that second line:

“a little chaos is a wonderful thing” (again with the eyes. he feels so deeply)

that line shows a comfort with disorder, with no set plan, with just reacting. hes like ‘i will build this intricate machine to hurt you with’ and then when it breaks he picks up the pieces and throws them at your head. it works either way. he appreciates how both methods work. hes flexible - in flux - in a way that neither simm nor missy were. it is growth and change, but it’s not a comfortable position to be in.

if simm was (mostly) all show, and missy half on purpose half accidentally broke through her own fourth wall, then dhawan is a master thats having a really hard time staying in character. he keeps breaking. he keeps looking at the audience, keeps acknowledging that this is all pretend. it’s like he doesnt believe his own show anymore and is just trying to get the feel back for the character hes supposed to be playing. hes constantly trying to gain control over his own overwhelming emotions.

i mean, look:

so many feelings

Oohhhhhhh damn

okay so ways the master gets caught in bodyswap aus:

-simm!master: his rancid vibes are always immediately detected by whoever’s with the doctor

-missy: either bc she immediately flirts with the companions OR bc she twirls and doesn’t fall over

-dhawan!master: says please or thank you in a non sarcastic/ironic way and immediately gets taken out at the knees

graham: i knew it wasn’t the doc when u didn’t immediately dismiss and mock my concerns

thirteen, standing triumphantly in front of the fam: ha you thought i like being touched this time round?? rookie mistake

the master: but you liked it when i choked you out in paris?

the fam:

thirteen: okay sharing time’s over time to go

good post but could you not mock neurodivergent people please

@transgirlromana ah shit no i wasnt referring to that scene at alll!! im autistic and got really angry at ppl who hated that scene bc its something that i also do and i was v happy that 13 did it! and she didn’t mock or dismiss his concerns then???? i was referencing the times where graham was like uhh can ppl stop implanting shit in me and 13 was like stop bringing the mood down graham

It’s a good thing that it was Dhawan!Master who found out about the whole “Timeless Child” thing and told the 13th Doctor about it because can you imagine 1: how much more insufferable Simm!Master would’ve been about it and 2: how much freaking cosmic angst and guilt we would’ve had to put up with if it’d been the 10th Doctor?

We’re lucky that 13 is one of the more repressed Doctors, cos Ten would have just criiiiied.

I was thinking something sort of like his “IT’S NOT FAIR!!” bit in End of Time but dialed up to like 15 or something followed by months of brooding but yeah that too

We're all so lucky

Something I’m NOT mad about

The perceived “destruction of character development”. And I’ll tell you why. Utopia. Yana works woth the doctor. Then he gets his memories back and tries to leave him at the end of the universe. The end of time. Saxon helped the doctor. Season eight. Missy is self proclaimed queen of evil. The doctor falls. Missy stands with the doctor. Spyfall. Spymaster is flat out whole hog crazy again. In their final appearance the master either helps or joins the doctor. It’s happened with each incarnation from the revived series. So I’m not all bent out of shape about Spymaster. I know the drill

Lol mood
