Can you recommend any DW podcasts that aren't overbearingly negative/obtuse about this era and the timeless child storyline? I don't mind criticism and discussion but so many podcasters seem so set on their preconceived notions of chibnalls writing that it seems like we're watching a completely different show and it honestly makes me feel like im going crazy sometimes lmao
Oof. I know how you feel. Here's a few podcast I found that's not overly negative on Chibnall and the Chibnall era.
- The Queer Archive Podcast, so far the only podcast I know that talks about Timeless Child in the positive and (rightly) links it to themes of colonialism, imperialism, and white supremacy.
- Verity Podcasts - Revolving Podcast panel, they're willing to see where this Timeless Child arc will go.
- Radio Free Skaro - Not negative on Chibnall, wary of the Timeless Child arc. Even more tired of fandom shenanigans. Has some industry news, rating talk. You will know when they start their ratings talk because they have a snazzy jiggle called: "STATS!" One of the hosts will try to run away because they hate ratings talk.
- Doctor Who Flash cast - Flashcast by Jason Snell. Depending on the guest, I don't usually agree with them but they're okay to listen to.
The Oodcast have always centred their love for the show in their discussion, so they’ve got nice things to say about this era (and they do great song parodies and sketches, which is normally where they poke fun at the silly things in an ep) but with COVID they haven’t done any episoodes recently :(
Oh yes! I knew I forgot one! I love the Oodcast! Particularly their song about the P’ting! I just forgot about them because they haven’t posted new episodes.
I hope they’re okay.
Oh that ones so cute! Yeah I know Chris Mead was advertising an online dr who theatre thing recently so they’re still knocking about
Also I listened to some Queer Archive there and man they’re so great! I never caught the phrenology moment with Tecteun and little child doctor before, really adds to the imperialist & race supremacy angle of this storyline
So there’s a comment section for the BBC! I have sent in my positive feedback for Doctor Who this series! Please spread this wide and share your thoughts! Let’s out do the screaming haters!
Please send them some positive reviews!!!
The BBC complaints department have issued the following:
“Doctor Who is a beloved long-running series and we understand that some people will feel attached to a particular idea they have of the Doctor, or that they enjoy certain aspects of the programme more than others. Opinions are strong and this is indicative of the imaginative hold that Doctor Who has – that so many people engage with it on so many different levels.
“We wholeheartedly support the creative freedom of the writers and we feel that creating an origin story is a staple of science fiction writing. What was written does not alter the flow of stories from William Hartnell’s brilliant Doctor onwards – it just adds new layers and possibilities to this ongoing saga.
“We have also received many positive reactions to the episode’s cliff-hanger. There are still a lot of questions to be answered, and we hope that you will come back to join us and see what happens, but we appreciate that it’s impossible to please all of our viewers all of the time and your feedback has been raised with the programme’s Executive Producer.” This insane i swear.. I sometimes feel like we need to be louder. Us that actually enjoy the show. We just enjoy it but rarely voice our opinion whereas these guys do and they’re a loud but small group.. Sighs..
Here ya go guys! Go leave a positive review and spread the love <3 https://www.bbc.co.uk/contact/comments-feedback/#/Your%20comment

unfriendly reminder: this is a sex worker positive space. I will not tolerate the disrespect of sex workers here, and if you cant agree with that without a doubt then you're not welcome here.
sure would be nice if people other than porn blogs and sex workers reblogged this
In this house we respect sex workers
do any of you Thirteen fans ever venture out of Tumblr and forget how toxic the Doctor Who community is on other sites?
Like, the Thirteenth Doctor Who community here is just really positive, even when we’re making posts critiquing the show.
Then you go on Youtube and people are in the comments wishing death on Jodie Whittaker.
I just hate how outside of Tumblr everything is so negative!!!!
Sorry, that’s my rant for the day
Oof mood tho
"[female character] is a himbo" there's already a word for that and you ain't gonna like it
this was just supposed to be a riff on some post of a straight woman in a plaid shirt i saw but now i have opened it up to people unironically saying that it’s okay to call men dumb as bricks and attractive and not women bc “its okay when we do it”
some of yall need to never look at men again until you can acknowledge that they’re people too.
Hi, as a male and someone who is interested in linguistics, I've found that "himbo" is actually completely qualitatively different from "bimbo," and shouldn't be considered an insult at all.
"Bimbo" was typically solely used as a derogatory term. It meant someone who was entitled, lazy, overly concerned about their looks, and frustratingly dumb. Someone whose only redeeming quality was their appearance, implying that their sole worth as a human being was as a sex object. This was its original use, its current use, and only use.
Himbo, on the other hand, has weirdly positive connotations. From what I've seen, the stereotypical "himbo" is strong, conventionally attractive, and dumb, sure, but it's all spun in a positive light. A himbo is typically very compassionate, highly optimistic, entertaining, and often extremely capable (in areas that don't require a lot of brainpower). Himbos typically also are very aware that they aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer, and graciously step aside to let other, smarter people take charge when they need to. And when they do screw up out of stupidity, it's usually in a charming, endearingly silly way instead of frustrating. Basically, a himbo is a romantic fantasy instead of a demeaning insult: a strong, capable, and inherently non-toxically masculine individual who just so happens to be dumb as a rock. Which does give their potential romantic partner a bit of an edge in some areas, sure, but not in a way that degrades their humanity.
And what's more, a "himbo" causing problems is meant to be relatable, not demeaning. Everyone screws up, but the himbo screws up often, and in ways that are often unpredictable and absurd. Something that it takes an extra amount of thinking just to imagine how they could possibly have come to that conclusion. But they are always forgiven for these mistakes, since there usually is some logic behind their actions, even if it is ridiculous. And they always forgive themselves too, which is strangely empowering. In an era defined by anxiety and self-doubt, it's comforting to think that no matter how dumb your mistakes may be, they can always be forgiven if your heart's in the right place, and that it's okay to relax and not worry about unforeseeable consequences that are beyond your knowledge or control. It's okay to be true to who you are, even if who you are only has two braincells that are usually taking an extended lunch break.
tl;dr "himbo" is okay while "bimbo" is not because "bimbo" is an inherently dehumanizing insult and "himbo" has actually evolved into meaning a positive masculine role model, but dumb
This has been my himbo manifesto, thank you for reading
This is not the essay I was expecting to read today but boy am I so glad I read it
Yesss
Me: “How can I help you today, ma'am?” Client: “Is e-mail internet”? Me: “I beg your pardon?” Client: “Is e-mail on the internet? I have no internet, can I still read my e-mail?” Me: “Well yes, you must be able to get online to view your e-mail.” Client: “Oh, dear. I can’t see my e-mail.” Me: “Well, let’s see. Can you open up Internet Explorer for me and tell me what you see?” Client: “Open what?” Me: “Your browser, can you open up your browser?” Client: “My…my…?” Me: “What you click on when you want to browse the internet?” Client: “I don’t use anything, I just turn my computer on, and it’s there.” Me: “Okay. Do you see the little blue ‘e’ icon on your desktop?” Client: “You mean I have to start writing letters again?” Me: “I’m…what, I’m sorry?” Client: “I don’t have any pens at my desk. I just want my e-mail again.” Me: “No, ma'am, your desktop, on your computer screen. Can you click on the little blue ‘e’ on your computer screen for me?” Client: “Oh, this is too much work. I’m too upset. Just send me my e-mail. Can’t you send me my e-mail?” Me: “We…okay, ma'am. Can you tell me what color the lights are on your router right now?” Client: “My what?” Me: “The little box with green or possibly a couple of red lights on it right now - it’s most likely near your computer?”
Client: “Lights and boxes, boxes and lights, just get my e-mail for me.
Me: “My test is showing that you should be able to get online right now. Can you tell me what you’re seeing on your computer screen?” Client: “It’s been the same thing for the last two hours.” Me: “An error message?” Client: “No, just stars. It’s black and moving stars.” Me: “…Do you see your mouse next to your keyboard?” Client: “Yes.”
Me: “Move it for me.” Client: “Move it?” Me: “Yes. Move it.” Client: “My e-mail!”
This post gave me a fucking ulcer.
You meet people like this at the library. People who have been coming in every day for YEARS to use the computers and monopolize your time with conversations like this, that seem to go out of their way to avoid listening to anything you try to teach them because they’d rather you just do it for them.
So one day, this tiny, frail little woman comes to the desk with a huge folder of papers under her arm. She says “I need to use one of the computers,” and I’m like “alright, I’ll set you up with a guest account.”
And then she says “I’ll also need you to show me how to use a computer. I’m 97 years old and I’ve never even touched one before, but I need to file my health information and they told me I needed to do it using this,” and she holds out a little scrap of paper with a url scrawled on it in a shaky hand.
And I’m just mentally like ‘oh no,’ but I say of course I can help her. So I sit her down and sign her in, and she stops me to ask basically what the mouse is, and I explain it, but I’m just thinking that this is going to take a million years. But I start doing a quick and dirty run down of the parts of the computer, the programs, the desktop, what a url is and what the Internet is, what a search engine is, what websites are, and so on.
She doesn’t interrupt or ask any questions or anything, and then I’m like ‘okay let’s go to this url’ and it’s an interactive, multi-page form that she needs to put all that info in her folder into and submit, and I’m just terrified as I’m explaining it that I’m going to spend all day with this woman.
But she’s just like “alright. I think I’ve got it.” And she must have had a secretary job back in the typewriter days, because she just *whips* through the first page of the form and submits and goes on to the next, and tells me she’ll find me if she needs me.
She came over once to tell me she needed an email address and wanted to know how to set one up - I told her about her options and she picked Gmail and went back to the computer and set it up all by herself, and got her information all filed properly in about an hour and a half – and she’d NEVER used a computer before in her LIFE.
When she was done, she came over to ask me how to turn it off and I showed her and she thanked me for being so patient, and I told her quite honestly that I’d NEVER seen a novice adult pick up using a computer so fast.
And she said “oh, but it’s so simple! And so useful! My grandkids made it sound so difficult, but I’m going to pick up my own computer tomorrow!”
And I think she must have, because I never saw her in the library again.
Anyway I hope I’m that quick when I’m 97.
^ thank you for sharing this very positive experience because the experience from OP really gave me a headache. it was nice to end on a positive note.. gives hope
That was a beautiful story
imma say it. “kung fu panda” did more for body positivity and saying that you can be fat and still be healthy and liked than ANYTHING any beauty companies trying to get your money.
kfp also respects women more than any beauty company too.
also it had a positive relationship between an adopted child and his stepfather even after he found out he was adopted
Hey yknow how Viper was born without fangs, but instead of being rendered helpless as her family thought she’d be, she instead used her other skills to become the best warrior in her clan?
And how Tigress had severe, destructive anger issues when she was younger, but instead of being painted as a “problem child” she was instead taught her how to channel her emotions into something constructive?
And how Crane trained extra hard to impress a girl, and was by all rights the hero of his own story, but he still didn’t get her in the end? And how the girl isn’t shamed for it?
It’s almost as if you get more mileage out of treating your characters (and the people they resemble) with compassion than you do just shamelessly stamping them with your own misconceptions and hang ups.
This^^^
My favourite season 11 things in no particular order:
- Thirteen in Twelve’s suit
- ‘come to daddy - mummy’
- the use of red and blue lighting throughout the season
- Erik reading ‘assume her dad is dead’ at the end of It Takes You Away
- King James I
- the universe not revolving around the Doctor
- ‘I’m sorry you had to see this’
- Thirteen copying the Thijarian hand gesture upon realizing that she’d misjudged them
- new monsters!
- Ryan’s yellow beanie
- the Doctor accused of being a witch (i’d been waiting for this my whole life)
- the potential for the Stenza to become a long-running villain (Im hoping that Tim Shaw was just useless and that other Stenza are way more threatening)
- the Doctor’s silver coat
- I’m genuinely glad she chose ‘fam’ over ‘team’ even if it potentially dates the season a little
- how the Doctor’s personality changes slightly with an antagonist or even when her companions aren’t around
- London got a break
- no Moffat-sized trilogy things
- The frog!
- The Doctor worrying about things
- The Doctor referencing and/or acknowledging differences between being male and female
I might add more later

where! has! my! passion! gone! I had it abundantly when I was a child, and I must have dropped it along the way, but I cannot figure where!
oh hey folks fun update, i found my passion again? i just had to find my right outlet, get to a place where I have aspirations, dispel apathy and pursue what I love, it’s all good and swell!
reblog this to find the right outlet, get to a place where you have aspirations, dispel apathy and pursue what you love, and rediscover your passion.
tbh it wouldn’t be that hard at all to make a non-binary inclusive game, like instead of choosing male/female in the beginning they could just skip straight to customization, and it could be like a blank slate type thing, and you could add skin color and and hair and whatever else, and it’d have both masculine and feminine traits to add on, and then when you were done you could choose from a selection of pronouns maybe??? idk but the argument that non-binary inclusive is “too hard” is just kinda whiny tbh, game developers have done things a lot more difficult than that

Gen Z culture is being told your whole life that you have to be meet certain qualifications to matter. It’s having the idea that money equal success constantly drilled into your mind since day one. It’s being raised in an environment that’s been destroyed economically and still expected to have a well paying job. It’s watching adult normalize injustice. It’s being growing up being told by adults that you could be anything and then being shunned when you try to be just that. Gen Z culture is saying a big huge fuck you to that. Gen Z culture is caring about ourselves unashamedly. It’s loving who you want and standing up for your right to do it. It’s finding success in your happiness and not your bank account. It’s breaking down the barrier previous generations have ignored. It’s helping each other. It’s being vocal and caring. Gen Z culture is being the badass that adults are afraid of. Gen Z culture is being yourself.
I love this XD
you will unlearn all of the bad habits you taught yourself and you will grow into someone stronger than you ever imagined you could be
IT TAKES TIME BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT YOUT HAPPINESS IS IMPORTANT
