AHAHAHAHA BEAUTIFUL

The thing that truly gets to me about Villanelle’s phone call and the way she says, “We have to stop running into each other like that. It’s not good for both of us”, is that it’s not just an invitation for Eve with which Villanelle is telling her that she’s tired of the chase and will be waiting for Eve with the realization to want to be found once more, but that Villanelle admits that they need to stop hurting each other - reveling in the knowledge that they were both in pain. What makes this so delicate is that it comes with a sentiment wherein they know how much they care for each other, with regards to both of their feelings even when Eve stays silent in the moment - being our point of view character who physically expresses her answer with a smile and the camera tracking backwards instead - because Eve chooses to open up the invitation into the world in return, therefore tying the thread together and accept the fulfillment of their shared desire.

Because that’s a form of solace that they deprived themselves of before, both now sitting at the head of their respective table like emperors of their own fate, with the type of knowledge that gives them the power wherein both see eye-to-eye with each other, which allows them to move forward as well, knowing there’s a chance for them to be more and ease the charged pain they carried for so long.

This made me think about so much of what they have been through together already, and how Villanelle’s centurion speech is essentially about her and Eve’s pain (as described here) - foregrounding both of their experiences despite the fact that she tried to victimize herself in that moment only actually - because… what is power, therefore love, if it cannot be shared with someone who not only understands you “beyond measure”, but wants you without an ounce of doubt and the knowledge of what it could mean in the future, as the “everything” you both desire is the growth you see within?

It’s like watching Eve try to hide a knife in 1x05 and surprise Villanelle with it in 1x08 when she stabs her, or watching Villanelle shake her head at the thought of shooting Eve in 2x05 and then shooting her in 2x08, because the level of manipulation is equally damaging their bodies with the confession and rejection that comes with those actions, therefore leaving them vulnerable to new revelations. Which means everything they do never comes without the reality of pain, and how lonely it leaves them both behind when they chase each other with a poised kind of destruction with which they continually try to stand above the other through uncontrollable power. 

But that’s the kind of death trap they learn from so to speak, where their conclusions are based on what they feel deep down but have yet to properly communicate through their complicated compensations (to read the other and understand the full emotional landscape and dark cognizance), because Eve and Villanelle both lie bare what they actually want, their “everything” coming down to the line “you and me”, as in “us”, accepting the others hurt, thus power. 

So, it’s just amazing to me how they eventually meet at that checkpoint, even when there is distance between them still, because it helps drop that feeling of utter betrayal, as well as rejection and rage which are immensely tied to the devotion they otherwise exhibit in spades. I guess this is a whole new point in their relationship, as they have chosen with honesty to see how they want to go forward. And where that will leave them next is something I’m dying to see.

Eve and Villanelle BOTH recognized that the relationship they were in wasn’t the best for both of them. Eve asked how to make it stop, for her to stop giving in to that darkness within her, and Villanelle offered to help her!!

Eve was given the choice to leave Villanelle, and Villanelle has grown enough to let Eve go.

They had that opportunity to leave this relationship behind and, as Villanelle said, to never look back. They had the choice to leave each other…

But they didn’t. They couldn’t.

They both had to stop and look back at each other because in their hearts, it’s each other that they both want in life. Villanelle had the chance to be free, Eve had the chance to put all of this chaos behind her (literally).

BUT. THEY. DIDN’T.

They CHOSE one another. That’s the shift we needed in their relationship!!

It has always been brought up, how could this relationship work? How could these two actually be in a real relationship with each other? Well, this is how!!

By both being honest about what has been happening, by both opening up to each other about how they feel, and by both of them having the opportunity to leave each other. They needed to walk away in order to discover that, deep down, they just can’t.

The look they give each other in the end…that was love. It was two people connecting in its purest form and knowing that they can’t say goodbye to each other. 

They chose each other, goddammit. THEY FUCKING CHOSE EACH OTHER!!

The way their relationship has grow is so beautiful, they are equals, they have grown individually and they choose each other
