thinking abt her a lot lately :3
i think it'd be fun if while the master was on gallifrey and messing around in the matrix he found about abt the confession dial. not the sanitised story that twelve might've told missy during the vault but the actual real 4.5 billion years of the time lords using twelve's own will and testament as a torture chamber story. and he loses it. and he burns gallifrey. except he can't ADMIT that's why he did that he'd look SENTIMENTAL he'd look like an IDIOT so instead he makes up a story about how he found something in the matrix something so horrifying and awful and unbelievable that he HAD to destroy the time lords. and then thirteen ends up on gallifrey and digs a little deeper than he had and manages to reconstruct some of the missing files and when she runs back into him she's like i finally found out why you burned gallifrey and i can't believe they did this to me i can't believe they wiped my whole life and experimented on me and built the time lords from my stolen dna and the master's like yeah while mentally he's like hm i'm sorry they fucking what
one of my favourite things about Jodie's performance as the doctor is that she is always Moving. She's always using big, overt stage gestures. Always fiddling or shifting. Movement is such a huge part of her portrayal of the character to the point that it's So constant that you barely notice she's always moving after a while.
Of course, this is brilliant because it throws such Stark contrast on those few moments where she is still. Where she is a statue. Where you can feel the fury radiate off of her, judgemental and terrifying.
The physical acting is just *chef's kiss*
today I am missing the thirteenth doctor and her ‘no gender only weird little guy’ vibes. she’s not good at letting stuff go she’s good at eating dirt and hiding things from her friends. she’s not a woman she’s four raccoons in a sky blue trench coat with the most compellingly autistic personality ever seen in an alien. she’s a disaster but she’s my disaster.
okay seriously why are people still (at all actually) hating on jodie whittaker
like i just saw a rly sweet interview clip where she's talking about how she's so excited for the 60th and she has no idea what's happening in it and half the comments are shit like "she's the reason i stopped watching the show" "wish i could just delete her era"
like ??? let her exist??? if you didn't like her seasons you don't have to talk about them but there's no need to say shit like that she doesn't deserve it
that jodie got a top 40 hit when she was the doctor is still Hilarious and i laugh whenever i think abt it
the thirteenth doctor and her (extended) fam throughout the era
It’s fascinating to watch the environmental storytelling here.
We know that 13 is more reserved, keeps herself separate from her companions far more than before due to the (many) traumas she has suffered.
But until now I hadn’t realised how the cinematographers and stage placements had contributed to that.
Because she is literally standing apart from her companions more often than not. When they run or walk somewhere, she takes the lead ever so slightly - understandable, she probably knows more about where they’re going.
But when they’re standing still, just talking, 9 times out of 10, Thirteen will be in the foreground, with her companions a step behind her. And she does this delibarately, because we see her step in time with them and then take that extra step to put herself a tiny bit apart from them when they reach whatever they’re walking to.
It’s incredible visual storytelling, and contributed well to making us feel like she really was holding back by putting (even a tiny amount of) physical distance between herself and her friends.
the writing for the 13th doctor was Incredibly shrewd and inherently aware that while the doctor being a 'woman' didn't matter in the show or make a difference to the character, it very much Was a thing out in the world, and I feel like we should have talked about that more.
the absolute funniest thing abt there being a 13th doctor barbie is that dhawan!master is having a breakdown in canon, basically, because he’s Ken and just realised it.
incidentally the master knows no lessons in consent. At first he’s fairly broken up about somebody putting a piece of the doctor in him that he didn’t want there. No consent, he’s (fairly) not impressed. But then his solution is to go and Take the rest of it and shove it up there himself while not bothering to care if She said yes to get control over this situation.
Look bud i feel sorry for you feeling violated after finding this out but this is not the answer.
also when i’m feeling less emotionally raw about it i am So writing a meta abt their symbolic marriage that culminates in Yaz carrying 13 bridal style over the threshold of their home. But I am too raw right now.
I know there are angles to the thasmin thing but 13 did not want to pursue anything, gave a no, and Yaz respected the lack of consent. One of the angles is consent.
I don’t like comments that imply Yaz should have just ignored that 13 didn’t want to go there. That would have, objectively, made Yaz suck utter balls. She got a no, took a no. Which is honestly just basic decency. And since Yaz is a whole lot more than just basically decent it’d really suck if they did her that dirty.
I feel like 13 has never felt more kinship with daleks and cybermen than when the master was doing his Rasputin dance and all of them were sat watching him with Intense Judgement.
Another thing that killed me was Yaz's compassion to 13 as she was dying. She doesn't like goodbyes, but Yaz clearly Does. So when she tells 13 that they shouldn't say goodbye, should just have a last see you later, one last happy memory of an adventure because she knows 13 wishes this could go on forever, Yaz wasn't doing that for herself. It was for 13.
this is on me for saying TWO HAD THE WORST REGENERATION LAST WEEK
