Our library ran the expenses and realized we spent about 3,000$ MORE than what we got back in trying to collect late fees. So? We dropped them completely. No late fees. Period.
If you keep a book, it auto renews two times. Then it comes up as overdue. If your overdue items exceed a certain amount, your account freezes. You can’t use any of the local libraries anymore until you return the items or claim them lost and pay for them. If someone else is waiting for the book, you can’t renew. Its that simple.
And guess what. Not only did we save money, but we /got more materials back/. More materials were turned in than declared lost as compared to before. There was no stigma to it. If you had already paid for the item, the money was credited back to you.
Because the people late fees actually affected were children and elderly adults - people unable to regularly get to the library. And the stigma of late items was dropped. Attitude and mindset are important.
we still have no late fees. And we are considered to be one of the top public systems in our state. People from out of state PAY to get library cards for a year because our online Overdrive system is amazing, and we have a ton of partnerships and interlibrary loan systems in place. AND we suffer less losses of both materials and patrons due to our “no late fee” policy.
imma say it. “kung fu panda” did more for body positivity and saying that you can be fat and still be healthy and liked than ANYTHING any beauty companies trying to get your money.

kfp also respects women more than any beauty company too.
Hey yknow how Viper was born without fangs, but instead of being rendered helpless as her family thought she’d be, she instead used her other skills to become the best warrior in her clan?
And how Tigress had severe, destructive anger issues when she was younger, but instead of being painted as a “problem child” she was instead taught her how to channel her emotions into something constructive?
And how Crane trained extra hard to impress a girl, and was by all rights the hero of his own story, but he still didn’t get her in the end? And how the girl isn’t shamed for it?
It’s almost as if you get more mileage out of treating your characters (and the people they resemble) with compassion than you do just shamelessly stamping them with your own misconceptions and hang ups.

I’m honestly kind of shocked how well-written this cartoon about Jack Black as a panda ended up being, but kudos to KFP!
Exactly! Zero creativity! Not to mention that the last play was to show Loki’s “egotistical” personality. It doesn’t make sense that they continue these plays now. I also predict that there will be a number of fat shaming jokes.
I wasn’t sure where to post this, but if anyone is struggling with the storms (or you know people who are) and their pipes have burst, the roof has caved in, or there is physical damage to the home. Please advise them to call their insurance company asap. As an agent, I know many are unaware of the coverage for loss of use. This will provide them money to get a hotel and live for a bit, while the house is inhabitable (sic).

Loss of use coverage from your insurance company is standard and included FOR FREE with most homeowners, condo, or renters insurance policy. It covers both expenses during the storm and after the storm if your home is uninhabitable before repairs can be made! Plumbing repair wait times are going to be a thing here! Roof repairs also! Call your insurance now and document, document, document!
If you need loss of use reimbursement while waiting for plumbing repairs to be made, try to get in writing (email or text message you can screenshot should be ok) that you can’t get it fixed right away. Having that from multiple service companies will support your loss of use. Your agent (if you have one) can be a great advocate for you but they do not actually handle the claims approval process. They do have some leverage to argue for you with your insurance company’s claims department but some unscrupulous agents will be unhelpful because many companies pay bonuses to agents who can sell claims-free policies.
Bonus insurance tip! You don’t have to get multiple bids if the work is going to cost more than your deductible. You are legally required to pay your deductible but insurance is going to pay the rest so hire a company who does good work and you are comfortable with them. A company that promises that you won’t have to pay your deductible is literally promising to break the law. Don’t trust them.
Anything extra you are wanting done (and can afford) might be cheaper to add now since the service call and some of the work is already paid for!
A visual guide to the ever delightful, striking, brighter than sunshine Hiddles smile and its gradations.

And then there’s the “I don’t know who you think you are but before the night is through I wanna do bad things with you” Loki smile (which is in character and in a whole different category, gradation or whatever, but oh who cares) so God help us all:
i am forever baffled by the way the warriors 3 and sif immediately turn on loki in thor 2011. i mean. he's the next in line for the throne. he explained his reasons for continuing thor's banishment. they had not problem with it when odin did it but they immediately reject his rationale and openly turn against him. you'd think they'd feel more chastened since they too are partly responsible for the looming war. and loki was the only one who tried to argue against going or reduce the tensions.
Loki’s the only one actually trying not to get them to go at all, or telling the guard as a preventative measure, or stalling with Heimdall, or not going under pretense of peace in ceremonial battle armour, or accepting the peaceful offer to leave jotunheim, but no one cares about Thor starting a war because Loki’s King which is Bad and Oh!! he must be Up To Something™ planning to steal Thor’s position this whole time!!
And what makes it even worse that they know their lives were saved but instead focus on how Thor was banished because Loki told the guard instead of how he wasn’t killed but only after Loki reveals his part in it!!
Loki even explains why he did it. And they all know he’s right about Thor not being ready!! But then Sif brings up that he’s jealous as an argument and no one disagrees!!
Fandral even points out how ridiculous their accusations sound, but he still goes with them and follows along.
And then Loki tells them he’s king and they show no respect and ask for every other alternative to dob to, and he has to remind them he’s the ruler and he gives them another valid explanation along with the earlier one about why it’s better for Thor to be banished a bit!!
And now you’re thinking “hey, it’s okay, at least Asgard’s most loyal gatekeeper won’t support their idiotic accusations and help them commit treason” but then think again!:
So we have Loki who already starts out getting no respect not even gain any support when he’s King. And he’s already been doubting his place in the world because he’s already having the Jotun/Laufeyson identity crisis! He is going around reminding people he’s King to reassure himself that not everyone is going to betray or abandon him… even as he takes note of all their behaviour indicating otherwise.
Is it any surprise Loki’s plan only required himself? Everyone else turned cloak in a time of war for the imbecile and the only one who accepted the legitimacy of his Kingship and his word… was also Thor, who he wasn’t the brother of, who was on Earth as a mortal, who Loki was being pitted against for the purpose of filling the slot of son/heir and reasonably thought would kill him on sight if he knew he was Jotun :)
And! As an extra bonus fun feature, it’s extra fun to remember that thanks to the deleted scene at the beginning of the film we know Loki is honest and open to the point where he speaks and admits that he gets jealous, but he doesn’t mind because he loves Thor.
He admits to his faults. Deleted opening scene of Thor 1 and he literally does what Frigga vilifies him for in Thor 2.
Loki is literally that good a person. He means the best for Thor despite blatant favouritism and being overshadowed his whole life and the degrading comments where he’s looked down on for his skills. And along with everything else he faces in the film Loki comes to realize that it amounts to nothing because despite everything he’s ever done everyone doubts his love for Thor and loyalty to Asgard and he has no one that’s going to side with him regardless of who is right or wrong. Loki’s been on the best behaviour he could the past millennia of his life trying to be a good son a good brother and good friend and the second he inadvertently attains the throne there is not one person who will believe he intends to do well by it.
Literally all of this. Also it’s worth pointing out that the way the scene is played, they seem genuinely happy that at least a guard informed Odin where they were UNTIL Loki reveals that he was the one that told the guard. Then suddenly they are angry. They certainly don’t thank him and seem to be annoyed and consider it an underhanded move.
I think in that scene Loki had a rare moment of hope and optimism. He imagined that they would finally understand where he was coming from and see his worth. I think he imagined they would thank him for having informed the guard. And I think he also imagined that when he revealed his concerns about Thor’s ability to rule they would finally agree he was right. He imagined at long last getting from them some of the respect and admiration they had for Thor. He underestimated their dislike and disdain for him.
They go from being glad the guard told Odin to displaying thinly veiled disgust that Loki “betrayed” them by informing on their whereabouts and intentions. And they dismiss his love for Thor as a lie and his legitimate concerns as petty jealousy and use that comment as an excuse to turn on Loki. Something they are clearly very eager to do.
Of course if Loki DID want to get rid of Thor he could have plotted to get him killed by trying to lure him into a dangerous situation - he could have abandoned him during the fight with the frost giants, or refused to come and made sure no one found out where he’d gone till it was too late, or tried to kill him in the confusion of battle. He certainly wouldn’t have tried to talk him OUT of fighting when they first confront Laufey.
At the point The Warriors Three and Sif start to suspect Loki it’s especially laughable since Thor is POWERLESS AND HUMAN AND UTTERLY HELPLESS. When Loki went down to see him he could have squashed him like a bug and then claimed Thor met with some accident on earth. But he doesn’t. Even though he has every reason to believe that if Thor knew his true heritage he would kill him without hesitation. After all last he spoke to Thor, Thor wanted to kill every frost giant. And everyone else in Asgard is perfectly happy to turn on Loki.
Ironically Thor is the only person to react appropriately to Loki being made king. When Loki tells him, Thor immediately accepts it and asks for Loki’s permission to come home. In context it’s clear that Thor just wants to come back to Asgard; he doesn’t expect Loki to abdicate the throne and give it to him even once he’s back. That attitude is the exception. Literally everyone else immediately starts conspiring to undermine and overthrow Loki.
