can you hear them?

melodies fading out in the distance
chasing after that fleeting sound
stumbling through the darkness
I see someone where the melody vanished
but then
I fell down
fell over
fell backwards
while watching you
tripped and tumbled
stuttered and fumbled
clouds roll in
the sun long gone
I lose sight of you
a part of me is lost with your fading silhouette
my desire to find you is indescribable
footing wobbly and unsure
I continue towards what I hope is your shadow
I finally see you again
the phantom melody beckoning me closer
were you waiting for me?
you pat the grass beside you
I join you
your presence is magnetic
you pull me close
I would never dream of resisting
my other hand brushes something on the ground
I don’t stop to wonder what it was
you kiss me deeply
the world vanishes
all that remains is you

I vanish with it
