i have a very wholesome tale for everyone today
one of my friends told me about when she studied ecology and entomology at her university, she had two lecturers who it took her a semester to realise were married
one of them named a species of wētā after her husband, as it turns out she broke her neck while finding wētā for genetic analysis, and he went out constantly to find them for her since she couldn’t anymore, and encouraged her to keep going (they are both wētā researchers)
(he had also since named a species of wētā and a species of velvet worm after her)
i have now been informed they also have an absolutely gorgeous book called NZ Wild Life!
(from what i understand this is a 2019 edition, and there is a 2014 edition that is slightly harder to find)
love is stored in the wētā…
