I have had 3 mineral posts flagged as adult content today. They contained a tourmaline, a muscovite, and a galena. On Friday I had 3 fossil posts flagged as adult content, including a fossil fish, a fossil tooth from a mastodon, and a Tyrannosaur vertebrae. I’ve submitted appeals for each. This has been getting worse over the past month, apparently most of geology content is now only for adults. 

Apparently you can’t get your rocks off on Tumblr anymore.

The funny thing is that my favorite local bakery had a cake like this in the show case for ages and I never went there.  (And I’m pretty good at going there.)  Can only conclude that using rock candy in warm-ish colors was a mistake.

A a dark purple, amethyst geode from Artigas, Uruguay which has been cut in half, polished and mounted on a stand allowing both halves to be displayed. The amethyst crystals are about as nice has they come, undamaged with a gorgeous dark purple coloration. There is a great calcite formation also including in the geode.

Does anyone know what this instrument is called? Its like a Marimba but it is very large and made out of huge stones. Listen to that tone! haha Love it!

It’s a type of Vietnamese lithophone (literally rock sound instrument) called a đàn đá. Some ethnomusicologists think that these are likely the oldest type of man made instrument.
