Unfamiliarity was something that Y/N could never coop with, she liked living in her routine-based life. She’d wake up every morning at 6am, check her phone until 6:15, shower, get dressed, eat her daily breakfast of rice, eggs and apple slices, cleaning up her dishes and going to her bathroom to brush her teeth all before 6:45. The feeling of comfort was her top priority and it was something that made her calm. Sure people called her boring, especially her best friend Hoseok, who was always the advocate for her to go out and try something new, even if it was just going out to a club or a party that had been thrown at him in the last few hours that he’d eagerly drag her to, but it was nothing but discomfort for her.

It’s been a week since he changed into someone else, but he still frequented the coffee shop, staring at you from afar. He could see how you still went about the day, doing your job properly, but he could see the dark rims beneath your eyes from lack of sleep.

It must have been the research you had to do for your thesis paper, the countless hours you spent on the laboratory to replicate the positive results you saw the last time when you had missed that date with him.

Or maybe, if he was permitted to assume, because he broke up with you so suddenly. He knew he had to break up with you since there was no chance of him ever going back to being ‘Kim Seokjin’. That never happened in the past. And it certainly was not going to happen in the future. Curse his luck that his condition just had to screw everything up when he thought things were getting better.

Reality could not just side with him this time.

Then again, it never was.

He screams as he stares at his reflection on the mirror. It was an entirely new face, he frowned as he checked himself out. He is relieved, however, that he turned out to be handsome. Really handsome.

In fact, he knows that if he were to go outside, even without taking a shower, he would still look an infinite times more handsome than any guy on the streets.

However, he feels dismayed that he had changed appearances today. He thought he was finally cured, but he wasn’t. He scratched his head, trying to figure out how he didn’t change the previous day. Could he be actually getting better? Did he do something else from what he usually did? He pretty much did what he usually did normally: Go to the coffee shop, drink coffee, do groceries, cook food at home, write songs, and sleep.

There was nothing much unusual from what he did two days ago compared to his usual daily routine.

The other clients are oblivious to the tense yet delicate air surrounding the two of them, Taehyung gulps down and holds in a sigh as he registers the barcodes, conscious of the unspoken words longing somewhere between them. His gut stirs in the most odd ways when he finishes and she collects the plastic bags before walking out of the convenient store again. His eyes follows her through the glass wall until he can’t see her, clenching the a copy of her receipt in his hand until the paper is crushed in his fist.

The bruises, the beers, her trembling hands, the barely unnoticed tear stains. It’s not that hard to put two and two together, it’s the kind of scenario Taehyung is all too familiar with and he can feel that old anxiety growing in him. It’s ominously nostalgic and Taehyung does his best to stay away from the memory lane.

Even after she’s gone, Taehyung’s still stares at the blank space she left when he couldn’t see her anymore. Completely oblivious to the way he’s concentrating all that frustration on the pressure of his sharp teeth worrying his bottom lip.

A groan escapes his throat as he stirs in bed, lazily turning his body to lay on his stomach. Taehyung gropes around to find his phone, but when he does, his body relaxes and for a brief moment he stays like that, trying to find the courage to open his eyes. He debates with himself until slowly he brings his phone closer to his eye level and opens one eye to look at the time. The screen displays [07:16AM] and Taehyung lets out a long sigh as he forces himself to turn his body, so he’d be laying on his back, his eyes fluttering shut once again as he places his arm over them. Minutes passes by while Taehyung simply lies there, not asleep, but not awake either. There aren’t any sounds of rain anymore, but when he tries to stick his foot out of his sheet he quickly retreats even though he was still wearing his socks. The weather’s still cold, very much uninviting for someone who is comfortably tucked in the warmth of their bed.

Christmas is generally known as a time of giving and receiving, a brief period where feuds can be settled and disagreements are put aside in order to give way to the spirit of mutual solidarity and the traditions that stay intact within families and cultures for generations on end. It’s a time where everyone is expected to play nice and show gratitude, even begrudgingly, in order to feed the social constructs that have made the Holidays the peak event for a lot of people before the respective year comes to a close.

But for Min Yoongi, Christmas is a nightmare that always starts with the stress of picking out gifts.
