At long last, the public domain binds I've been working on for the last two months are complete, and I have the first one to share today! This is Widdershins, a single-author anthology of ghost stories from 1911. I'll admit I haven't actually read most of the stories in it, but the first and longest of them, The Beckoning Fair One, has been a favorite for a long time. I had originally planned to bind only that one, but I'm taking a chance and hoping that the others are just as good. I look forward to finding out.

Have a look under the cut for more photos, and to hear me talk about materials and techniques. I'm gonna get a little rambly in this one.

Ready to get into the holiday spirit? After years of working on this story each winter, I'm delighted to finally share Dickens Fair, a Christmas-themed Good Omens meet-cute story just in time for the season!

The story is fully written, and I'll be posting a chapter each week—a little holiday present in your inbox to enjoy all season long!

Anthony is reluctantly dragged to Dickens Fair—a festive world of Victorian reenactment and holiday cheer—by his exuberant friend, Ana. A confirmed Christmas cynic with no love for anything merry and bright, he never expects to meet someone who could change his mind. But when he meets Ezra, a captivating bartender with a knack for serving up warm drinks and smiles, Anthony finds himself irresistibly drawn back to the enchanting hustle and bustle of Fair.

Ezra has all but given up on love, disillusioned by past disappointments. Yet something about Anthony's charm (and wickedly handsome good looks) makes him reconsider.

As their paths intertwine amidst carolers, can-can dancers, and Dickensian theater, both men are challenged to find the courage to risk their hearts and embrace the magic of the season together.

This is the final book from the batch I started in April, and look how cute it is! This is London Calling by forthegreatergood, a Good Omens fic set around the end of the cold war. It's definitely a TV!verse fic, not a book fic, but it does a quite good job capturing the feel of the time when the book first came out. It's got pining, and spies, and politics, and actual real grown-up conversations about feelings, and an optimistic ending even if it isn't a happily-ever-after.

The cover up there is a printed lokta paper that I got from...probably Hollander's but it's been a while. It was a total impulse buy and for a long time I kept trying to find stories that would fit it but I kept failing until I settled on this one. The print is metallic, but it phases between gold and silver and copper, so I chose a subdues rose gold metallic htv on the spine, over green book cloth for reinforcement.

Books Books Books. The bind I have to share today is The Fabric of Your Hair by @saretton (I have to confess, I left a comment on Ao3 asking for binding permission back in April but I don't think I ever got a response, so I really hope it's ok that I went ahead, and to tag you like this.) This is another really excellent Good Omens human au, with really colorful sensual language. One of our faves is a hair stylist in this one, and the other is a tailor, which is where I got the idea to use dressmaker's forms on the front cover even if there are none in the fic. The cute printed paper came from I think Joanne's, and the sheets had these strange patches of random text and pink roses on them that I had to cut around to get a usable cover, but it was worth it. The spine and corners are brown lineco book cloth with silver metallic htv for the title. Overall it looks a little steampunk for a modern setting but I think it's adorable and I love it.

Simply Meant to Be

Seasonal special for @theladydrgn and @sylwritesstuff the wonderful series Simply Meant to Be with beautiful art by @saminander

This fabulous Nightmare Before Christmas au actually made me give the movie a try.

On Syl’s copy I missed the first signature, which was the first story until I was getting it ready to ship 😿 so I quickly made a little booklet of it, which she graciously accepted. If you’re in the mood for something Halloween inspired, look no further 🎃

Halloween reblog, such a wonderful and atmospheric story 🎃

No power means reading the physical book by flashlight. Makes me feel a bit like a kid again and certainly adds to the ambience @theladydrgn @sylwritesstuff y’all are helping me get through a rough patch

I actually didn't mean to let nearly two weeks go by since my last bookbinding post, but somehow time has just slipped away from me till now. For today we have a pretty simple one, though:

This is Postcards from Paris, by ghostrat, a story that I asked to bind way back at the beginning of May. It's a Good Omens human au, involving letters received by an unintended recipient and a long sequence of getting to know one another via writing. I love epistolary stories and wish they were more common both in and out of fandom, and this one's really soft. Like the whole last chapter makes me feel all rosy and warm. Go read it if you haven't, it's wonderful.

It’s been a minute since I made a book, but I’m finally done with this copy of The Grindr Logo Doesnt Even Have a ‘G’ In It, an Aziraphale/Crowley fic by @indieninja92 ! This story has fucking everything. It’s achingly tender, funny, hot, and heartwrenching by turns, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

(Tumblr mobile refuses to let me paste links for whatever reason, but it can be read on AO3.)

I had a hell of a time figuring out a design forthis one. Instead of designing a dust jacket like usual, I opted for a paper label/cover and I think it turned out really well! The silk moire was a real bastard to work with and was more finicky with the glue than I like, so I’ll be sticking to cotton-based bookcloth in the future. The iPhone text headers were fun to play around with though! 😄

Technical details ➡️

Book cloth: Silk moire in platinum from Hollander’s

Endpapers: Chiyogami fireworks from Hollander’s

Fonts: SF Rounded (title) and Sabon (body)

Designed in Photoshop and Canva

Today's completed book is a bind of Glimmer, by @tawnyontumblr (hi, it's me, the person who asked to bind your story way back in April). This story is a Good Omens human au about sex workers in the Regency era, and it's gorgeous and lush and fantastic. Sexy and vulnerable and all the good adjectives. Go read it if you haven't yet, it's wonderful.

This is another legal-size quarto, my second (of 4; more are on the way). It really is an addictive size, and perfect for fics this length. The cover is done in this really pretty red damask lokta paper that highlights different parts of the image depending on the angle of the light. I was toying with the idea of binding this fic, and when I found this paper I immediately bumped it up the list because it's so perfect. The spine is dark gray lineco book cloth that I simply cannot resist putting on spines. I realize this is a pattern and I do not care. It's softer visually than black and it coordinates with everything and I will not stop.

Book time! I want to post all my new stuff but don't want to flood people with them, so I waited a bit after my last one to put this one up, but I can't wait any longer to show it off. This is The Rose and the Serpent, a Good Omens Beauty and the Beast AU by Atalan. I know there's some kind of fairy tale fic event going on in the fandom right now but this one is from a few years back, so if that's your thing and you're impatient go check this one out.

I'm totally in love with how this one came out. It's like, if you had a cartoon character who's reading a plot-relevant book of fairy tales, this is the book you'd draw for them. Belle has this book. It's perfect for its niche. The front cover is burgundy cardstock with brown faux leather on the spine, and antique-brass-finish photo corners to protect the edges. The rose was done with gold embossing powder and a stamp, since I can't draw and those lines are too fine for the cricut. The batch of books I'm working through now is my first time experimenting with legal quarto size (legal size paper (8.5x14 in.) folded twice) and everyone who raved about it is right. It's very satisfying to hold and was a joy to make.

Check out the rest of my photos under the cut!

Anentropy - rated T, ~1350 words

A brief quarrel over domestic economy, settled in the best way. No potted plants were harmed in the writing of this fic.

“I have got set in my ways in six thousand years, Crowley. And I can’t see why it matters if one’s surroundings are a little haphazard – there’s always a bit of a surprise –”

“Like that biscuit under the sofa last week? Had whole new species growin’ on it.”

“There, that’s exactly the thing. There’s always your standards, and I don’t measure up –”

“I don’t mean it like that. I want to keep things nice for you.”

“Well, so far as standards, we all have our own standards of Nice – and if a little comfortable untidiness is mine –”

“You called me Nice,” interjected Crowley.

“Yes, and you pushed me against a wall!”

Tagging in the replies as usual -- will gladly add you to the tag list, or take you off it, just lmk!

I was contacted late last year for permission to typeset my silly baby robots story for a fanbinding. I was somewhat aware of fanbinding and have an admiration of the art of bookbinding in general, so I happily gave my blessing. Hey, if someone likes my writing enough to commit an act of craftwork about it, I say full steam ahead. In my opinion it's the highest honor a work of fanfiction can receive.

Fast forward to now. @catspawbindery has gifted me this gorgeous tome.

Y'all.

Sweet shiny Primus is this thing gorgeous.

Just look at the quality and care that went into this. It's so well made and wonderful to hold.

I had (am still having, when spacetime allows) so much fun writing this series, despite/because-of its cracky premise, and seeing it manifest as a physical object is delightfully surreal. I'm going to find a prominent place to display it in the room where I do most of my writing so it can spur me on. Hopefully someday right next to it will be the first hardcover of Scoundrel.

(Don't worry, she is a very gentle pup and no damage occurred.)

Amyda, it's beautiful. Thank you so much. I can't stop grinning.

Finally getting my act together and reblogging this :)

It has been delightful to see this post crossing my dash this week, surprising me every time because I'm not in the reblog chain yet XD. Definitely a pick-me-up everytime it happens!

It's even more beautiful than the initial pictures showed! /weeps because of Amyda's tremendous skills/ Like, this only just hit me that that typeset is PHYSICALLY A BOOK. jfc, this feeling is amazing. Congrats to the author on a fantastic story, and gotdamn Amyda; I've got no words.

As promised, I've got more books to share and they are all fic binds. Have a look at this new one:

This is Among the Stacks by MeinirRhos, and it's one of the few post-s2 Good Omens fics that I've liked enough to bind. It's canon-compliant and full of pining, fluff, angst, and a memory loss plot and I knew before even finishing it that I wanted it on my physical shelves.

I kept it pretty simple on the outside, with Library Summit book cloth and white HTV for the title. Large parts of the fic have to do with libraries and library books, so I thought it would be fun to make it look like a library rebind, something that looks innocuous and blends in to the shelves but it's actually going to be your new fave once you open it up and start reading. I wanted very badly to have the titles hand-written in embossing inks but I couldn't get a clean enough line with the textured cloth, so this handwriting font saved the day.

More photos under the cut; I'm really proud of the typeset for this one!
