the reason winnix works is because even though dick is popular and people do genuinely love him, dick winters is deeply lonely and the only guy who will hang out with him and just let him be himself is the rich lush who has been deeply lonely since birth and sees it in dick even when dick doesn't

When they’re naked in bed together and Lewis is running his hands all over Dick’s tight toned chest and arms and purrs “my big strong soldier” in his ear kinda meaning it as a joke but it just does it for Dick

Also when Lewis calls Dick by his rank in the middle of sex or when he’s flirting/teasing him…yeah

Like of course him asking Dick to come home to New Jersey with him and work with him after the war-

But like even when it was Dick making decisions about his own life it was Lewis who would make the decision to follow him… like joining the paratroopers, signing up to go fight in Japan…
