going insane hearing talk about whether harris did enough to "earn" votes. no candidate has ever or can ever earn my vote because a vote is not a payment i send to a politician and it's stupid to think about it like it is. exact same thinking error that leads to people talking about not voting like it's a boycott. if anyone earned my vote it's the people i tried to use that vote to protect

you never owed kamala harris anything. you owed it to your fellow citizens of the world to vote for harris.

kamala harris is not even close to being the person who would have benefited most from her winning the election, and she's even farther from being the person who will be hurt the most by her loss, which makes thinking about it in terms of "but did she deserve my vote?" disastrously stupid. she simply is not the person whose deserving matters at all here

Exactly tbh

I don't go to the gym because it motivates me. I don't arrive to work on time because of how my job earned it. I don't eat fruits and vegetables because they inspire me.

The end of ALOTO episode 5 is so brilliant. Max in the kitchen with Bert humming along looks so at peace and it's just this quiet portrayal of queer family that I find so delightful. Gracie being a reassuring presence and the way Bert mentions Toni to reassure Max, and his humming reminding her of her mother. It's just brilliant

Man: What’s a matter girl, you had a little bit too much corn?

Pig: *very long disgruntled groan which rises in pitch*

Man: Is that a yeah?

Pig: *shorter groan*

Man: Okay.  Here I come, I gotta get the intoxicated pig… Look at this pig…

Pig: *quiet snort*

Man: Hey!

Pig: *snort*

Man: Are you messed up, girl?

Pig: *short snort*

Man: Never seen a damn pig… Look at that, that one here’s fine, that one there is fine, this one here is turned belly up

Pig: *snort snort snort snort*

Man: Hey you

Pig: *snort*

Man: Whoa!  Whoa!  Shit!  [Unintelligible] HOWH!  Come here girl!

Pig: *grunt grunt grunt*

Man: Holy hell, fuck…I didn’t mean to do that

“Whoa! Woah! Shit The Bed Almighty!” Is my new favorite expletive

and if anyone’s wondering, the man (from Cecilia, Kentucky, USA) had emptied a broken deer feeder full of accidentally fermented corn into a field where no animals were supposed to be. the pigs broke out of their pen, got into the corn, and the one you see here seriously overindulged

they observed her overnight and got Animal Control to do a check-up on her. she’s fine

so yes, you you can enjoy the video without worrying about Drunk Pig

So glad to hear she’s just drunk off her… whatever you call a pig ass. Haunches?

Several people have been kind enough to let me publish their thoughts on fandom, community, and queerness to celebrate Pride in the Library. Today's our final piece, and it comes from @skeptiquewrites

All my life, queer people had talked to me as kin, and I didn't understand until I came out. I knew that I was bisexual when I was a teen, and it took me a while to come to terms with myself. Once I did, I think I approached it the way I approached much of the rest of my identities as a Black woman: with openness and defiance. This is who I am, take it or leave it. I came to fandom with that attitude.

What this fandom and writing fanfiction afford me is the ability to express that pride with vulnerability. In community, it lets me really dig deep and show the other side of that joyfulness. There is always defiance, of course. The creator’s virulent bigotry is very much opposed to that. And just as we inherit personal histories, we inherit community histories. Continuing to resist that in narratives is important to me.

In fandom, I found a community. I found people who would nurture and cultivate that creative expression in all its fullness. I found people who understand what I meant, people who read generously and joyously and critically. People who let being queer and trans in so many ways be reflected in their stories. People who reflected their experiences with love, friendships, work, sex, family, struggle, and triumph. People who talked back to the text, interrogated it.

I have immense gratitude for the friends who make this possible. They read my work, edit it, rec me other fics & books, encourage my rest and cheer me on. But this also extends to all the strangers who read along silently or leave comments about the parallels to their own multifaceted lives. I see myself in them, too.

Thank you, Tee, for joining me in the Library. I love that you’ve found a place where you can be vulnerable, and that you were willing to share your community experience with us. Thank you for joining our Pride in the Library celebration. You gave us the perfect conclusion.

If you want more @skeptiquewrites be sure to check out her work on AO3! I love her On The Shore. It’s so gentle and tender, and from the first time I read it I fell in love. I’ve read it twice since.

🏳️‍🌈 Lots of Love and Happy Pride! 🏳️‍🌈

btw its actually crazy that plantation tours are a thing that exist in the u.s. and that theyre not all set up like memorials similar to concentration camp museums like how is this marketed as a chill tourist activity or wedding destination and not extremely disturbing and depressing to see. worthless country

There's a short film called What a Beautiful Wedding by @octopunkmedia about a black man who gets invited to a wedding held at a plantation and is the only one who sees all the ghosts.

That's an incredible film that makes a very good point. Plantations should never be used as grounds for "pretty house" tourism. Honestly I feel uncomfortable about a lot of preserved historical sites and how they gloss over the ugly sides of history in favor of showing off the pretty trappings of the past, like in a lot of old manors and castles. I was once even fired from a job as a historical guide at an old in New England estate, in part, for putting too much emphasis on the classism and oppression of the Gilded Age. But that doesn't come close to the levels of horror that came with slavery, or the extensive ways it still permeates society. God, the ending of this movie gave me such chills.

Cute!

This orangutan had lots of fun with the sunglasses and the zookeepers managed to get her to trade the sunglasses for some leafy greens when she was done with them. Items like this are not ideal in primate enclosures because they can break and/or ingest pieces, so the orangutan got to have her fun and (not) eat it too.
