Making leaves for a doll sized wreath

Hello, friends! Just stopping by to leave a little how-to on something festive. I kind of missed the deadline to make this a ‘first Sunday of advent’ post, but it’s never too late to get started!

This can be used for a number of things-Christmas wreaths, St Lucia crowns, advent wreaths-it really just depends on how you decorate it!

For the leaves (and wreath forming) you’ll need:

-green paper (I used card stock, but I’m certain something thinner like construction paper would be more delicate)

-Some form of thread/string and needle OR thin wire

-Optional: craft glue to stiffen up the wreath

I apologize for the lack of a read more, again! Still can’t do that on mobile.

Cut out as many vaguely leaf-shaped ovals as your heart desires. There’s no set amount; it’s really a matter of how big you want your leaves and how dense your intended wreath will be. My leaves are about an inch long.

Fold in half lengthwise, and then fold again the other way several times along the length of the leaf. (It should kind of resemble a crinkle cut French fry) When unfolded, they’ll ideally have a fold going vertically and a few diagonal folds that meet in the middle.

Thread your leaves onto your string/wire. I used embroidery floss and a needle, but you’ll probably get a stiffer wreath with a bendy wire. You’ll have to fiddle around to get your leaves facing in your ideal directions. It’s okay if they move around while they’re being threaded.

When your wreath has reached a satisfying circumference, secure the ends together to make its circular shape.

I glued mine to more card stock and cut it out so that it had a base to keep it in shape.

If you’re looking to make an advent wreath, I painted four short hot glue sticks purple and pink to make candles as I absolutely could NOT find teeny tiny advent wreath candles. I glued the bottoms to the wreath and base, and covered up the glue blobs with more leaves.

That’s all! Hope this helped the anons in my inbox. Sorry this took so long!

Have you tried to make any other Catholic or Christian crafts for your dolls or seen guides for any? I am interested in making a chalice, a host, and a Bible.

I haven’t made anything else yet. I love working with small things so I’m considering a nativity scene. Not AG, but I made a tiny Advent wreath out of some fake moss and polymer clay! It was for my grandpa’s lookalike bobble head, which is a weird and long and unrelated story haha. I’m sure things like that would be fun to make, especially since we’re coming up on the new liturgical year.

I’ve seen some companies (or perhaps sewing pattern designers?) that produce 18” doll sized sisters’ habits and such. I’m sure if you were interested in veiling (I personally don’t at mass, but I know it’s a bit of a debate these days), it would be pretty easy to make a doll sized veil. I’m sure there are lots of things in the sewing and textiles category!

I haven’t really seen any tutorials on anything related to this in doll size-but I’m certain if you look around you’ll find something crafty you can scale down! I’d do some searches in the VBS and Sunday School realms as well when you do your looking, as I find there’s a lot of resources for those two events that can be shrunken and polished up to look nice and professional.

For a chalice, I know that you can buy those shot glass sized baby wine glasses in party supply shops/disposable kitchenware aisles/dollar stores. You might even be able to use an egg cup if you’re looking for something nicer! Add some shiny paint and you’re done!

Bibles are easier if you can find a small book to re-cover! Although I’m certain it wouldn’t be too hard to add a decorated hard cover to a notepad or something similar.

And as for a host, I like working with polymer clay but baking it is smelly. Looking up baking soda modeling clay recipes are worth a shot as well. I wouldn’t use things like playdough as it’s prone to cracking as it dries.

Good luck crafting and God bless! Have fun and don’t hesitate to send me any further questions

For the paten (plate) you could use a metal coaster. For a host you can use felt or craft foam as well.

The etsy shop The Little Habit is on hiatus right now, but you can look through reviews to get an idea of the habits and vestments they made. Spoiler alert: they are AMAZING!

Also if you’re Catholic or Christian you might want to check out Dolls From Heaven, which are 18″ dolls that represent holy figures like Mary, St. Therese, St. Joan of Arc, and Pope John Paul.

Thank you for that great addition!! If anyone else has some Catholic/Christian doll and toy related businesses, I’d very much appreciate it if you’ll add it to this post!

Have you ever made a doll sized crucifix? If not, have you seen a guide for one? Have you seen doll size holy water?

I’ve never made a doll sized crucifix as I have one already-if you have a Christian store near you, you’ll absolutely find a small cross or crucifix of sorts. I haven’t seen any tutorials, but I’m sure making one wouldn’t be too hard if you can acquire an already made cross and some form of modeling clay to form Christ out of.

Doll sized holy water... I mean, the water itself I’m not sure a doll would need a supply of aha but on the subject of making and repurposing things, finding a little bottle to decorate and label ‘holy water’ would be neat. Not sure how finding a tiny water font, however, for a dollhouse doorway and such would go-but if you use your creativity and imagination, everyday objects can absolutely be turned into beautiful, useful, doll sized things with a bit of effort. 💖 have a great week and God bless

One last doll sized Catholic stuff post for the night!

Does anyone else have these freakishly small statues in their house or is just me? I know I got the crucifix, St Joseph and Child, and Our Lady of Grace pieces at a Christian book store, but the Mother Teresa (?) was something my mother had around and gave me when I was little. I’ve seen similar items on Catholic supply websites (often in bulk, however) as well as Etsy, if anyone’s wondering.

Nellie, resident Jesus lover, is happy to have these in just her size! Her favorite is Mother Teresa, but if we’re getting technical here, St Teresa was actually born six years after Samantha and Nellie’s story takes place. So it’s cool to note that they would be around at the same time, although on different sides of the planet!

Make miniature/doll sized Little Flower ‘sacrifice beads’

My rosary tutorial went over very well! I’ve had several asks discussing Catholic/Christian crafts for doll accessories, and decided to post a tutorial of what I lovingly grew up referring to as ‘Good Deed Beads’.

St Therese ‘The Little Flower’ used a set of beads to count how many times in a day she made a sacrifice, or a good deed. It challenged her to bring acts of love into her daily life. Commonly made resembling one decade rosaries, they double as just that! I made a set with my Little Flowers girl’s group as a child and still have them today. I’ve been making some as a part of Christmas goodie bags for my faith formation students, and thought I’d share instructions on making doll sized ones! (Of course, you can scale it back up to your size if you’d like a matching set!)

To make this, you’ll need:

-Small beads that will ‘fit’ in your doll’s hand. I used bracelet loom beads. Think about what rosary beads feel like between your fingers, and translate that to the size of your doll’s fingers! You’ll need ten in one color and one contrasting bead in similar size.

-19 seed beads, or you can skip that part if you’ve got teeny tiny crosses and medals.

-Some form of thread or string that fits the gauge of your beads and is good for knotting. I used a twisted embroidery floss.

-Scissors

Optional: Two thin needles to thread the beads if your string frays.

Alright, let’s get started, shall we?

Tie a knot at one end of your string. Thread seven seed beads onto it. Tie another piece of string just above the fifth bead, with the ends on this horizontal string about even on each side. Tie a knot above the top two beads.

Thread three beads onto each end of the horizontal string. Tie a knot on both. Ensure strings are knotted tightly, then trim the bottom, left, and right strings. Tie the remaining end to the center of a longer piece of string. You’ll now be working with two strands.

Thread your contrasting bead using both strings. Tie a knot above it.

Now is where you may want to thread your needles.

Thread one of the strings through one of your ten beads. With the other string, thread it through the OPPOSITE end so that the strings crisscross in the bead. Pull the bead down but not all the way; you’ll need to leave empty space between this bead and the knot below it.

Continue this way with your nine remaining beads.

When you’ve done your tenth bead, make a knot at the top. Then on each end of string, thread three seed beads. Knot those two ends together to make a little loop of beads. Trim excess string and you’re done!

You should be able to move your beads from one end to the other and count like this. For every good deed or sacrifice or act of love made, move one bead over. You may also use it to count your rosary decades.

Enjoy your crafting and God Bless you! Sorry for the lack of a cutoff on this post, which I still cannot do via the app. I’m always open to crafty suggestions or questions; just drop a message in my inbox!

I think an American Girl Doll Nativity scene would be neat. Do you have any tips for finding crafts like you described? Do you have any pictures of the advent wreath you made? What are your favorite items to make?

Alright, I’m absolutely going to have to start posting more tutorials on stuff like this! I’ve got a couple non-AG related projects going on so I’ll try to get something up in the near future.

When I was little, my mom had a tiny nativity set for her miniatures dollhouse, which is unfortunately no longer with us. I’ll have to dig around and see if I have any remnants of the set for reference. It was a little wood stable with tiny plastic figurines. I feel like it would be too small for an 18” doll, maybe more suited for the mini AG dolls if anyone can find those sets still in craft stores. (My mom definitely did not make it herself lol)

I know Pinterest is a messy and confusing site to be on these days but I still like using the app to search for crafty things. It’s hit or miss finding a good blog post link that works, but if you’re crafty enough I’m sure you can break down what’s needed in things (I tend to just reverse engineer things I see from the photos, so I’m not good help when it comes to linking my favorite tutorials... my browser bookmarks are all cookie recipes :P). Again, I’ll see about coming up with something fun to post instructions for!

This is the tiny advent wreath! It was for a bobble head of my grandpa (he thought it would be funny to send the grandkids a miniature version of himself. He sits on our TV stand and I dress him up for holidays, lol). The candles are just little sticks of polymer clay and wreath was that fake mossy stuff people use for miniatures and dioramas. I just got glued it into a wreath shape and stuck the ‘candles’ in.

My absolute favorite things to make are sewing dresses for dolls! I make them for my own dolls and my sister’s and family friends. But lately I’ve made lots of rosaries-and St Therese’s ‘good deed beads’, which, now that I think of it, I’ll try to make a post about very soon!! Maybe in doll size??

If anyone wants to ask more questions-or suggest things for me to post crafty things about-go right ahead!

I’ve actually come across tiny Bible keychains before that look like they’d be the perfect size for AG dolls

I forgot about those entirely!! Looks like you can get those pocket sized bibles on amazon or in bulk from Oriental Trading co.

Do you have any tips for finding beads that match for a doll rosary?

For the project I posted, I used leftover beads from an old bracelet weaving loom. They’re small-but-not-quite-tiny-seed-beads, but if you search ‘large seed beads’ it’ll come up on Amazon. Your local craft store’s jewelry making department should have different types of beads for sale:

-Packaged beads, aka beads loose in bags, boxes, tins, etc

or

-Strung beads, the kind that look like a ready made bracelet with a tag on it.

Packaged beads are often miscellaneous colors or shapes, but if you look around you can usually find solid colors or one design per package. Strung beads are typically the fancier, more expensive ones-but don’t purposely avoid looking at them! Sometimes you’ll find a set of small, not-precious-stone, beads in the right size. It really depends on what brands your store is carrying. The Michael’s website has a tab of ‘shop by color’ in their beads section, and Joann lets you choose between packaged and strung when you shop online.

If you’re buying from a big name store, always always always look for coupons! Coordinate them with what sales are going on, and you won’t have to pay an arm and a leg for something small. Coupons sometimes come in the mail, but you can download their app or have their website open. I got about 1000 or so 8 and 10 mm plastic beads for full size rosary making at Joann for $1.06. (And Joann has a rewards program too, if you think you’ll shop there often!)

Don’t forget to check the children’s craft department! My beads came from a kid’s loom, so if something catches your eye and it looks about right-go for it!

I’ve attached a picture of the finished doll rosary next to a measuring tape; true ‘seed beads’ are the pink ones, and the bigger unknown name/large seed/bracelet weaving beads are the green and white. Remember to check the gauge of your string too!

I hope that answered your question; if I wasn’t clear enough just let me know! If anyone has more questions/comments on my crafts you’re very welcome to drop me an ask! Have a great weekend

Making a tiny rosary/Rosary for dolls

My post about the itsy bitsy rosary I made for a lot more notes than I anticipated, so I thought I’d post a little tutorial.

(I apologize for the lack of a ‘read more’, tumblr won’t let me add a cutoff on mobile.)

What you’ll need:

-Around 25 inches of a fine string that knots well. You can use bracelet making cord, but for this one I used embroidery floss.

-Scissors

-53 small beads of one color. I used macrame/bracelet weaving beads, but something of a similar size would work.

-6 small (same or close to the size as above) beads of a contrasting color

-19 seed beads, unless you’ve managed to find crucifixes and centerpiece medals in the correct scale (if you have, pretty please tell me where to find them!!)

Optional: a very thin needle for threading the beads, but if your string doesn’t fray much you can get away without one.

With beads, always make sure you have a few extra in case you lose some/some are defective (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten beads without holes. It’s rather hilariously frustrating)

Alright, let’s start! Set yourself up somewhere comfy with good lighting.

Tie a knot at one of your string and thread seven seed beads onto it. Cut a few inches (around five) off the loose end of the string and tie it just under the top two beads, leaving the ends of the short string even on either side. Thread three seed beads each onto the ends of the string you just tied, and make a knot at the ends. Tie a knot above the two top beads on the vertical string. Ensure the knots are tight, and then trim the ends of the bottom and the horizontal strands. This makes your cross.

Thread one of your six contrasting ‘Our Father’ beads (in my case, white) above the cross. Knot, then add three of your main ‘Hail Mary’ beads (green for me), knot again. One more Our Father, then knot.

Thread the last six of your seed beads and tie them so they’re in a loop. It’s okay if they’re a bit loose. Make sure knot is secure, then cut the string.

Tie the remainder of the string onto one side, with two beads on one end and four on the other. Now you start threading your Hail Mary beads, ten at a time. After your tenth, knot, add an Our Father bead, and then knot again. Repeat until you have five sets of ten/decades with four Our Fathers in between.

Tie the string onto the side of your centerpiece with four beads, splitting them in between so that you have three pairs. Secure knot, trim off your excess string, and you’re done!

That’s all, folks! Thanks for reading. If you make one following this tutorial, please reblog with your photos or tag me in your posts! I’d love to see what you’ve done.

My Sunday school students and I made rosaries in class this past weekend. Nellie felt left out, so I made her one. (Aka I wanted to see how freakishly tiny I could make a rosary and my first try just so happened to be AG sized!)

I know I’m not the only Catholic person in the doll collecting/crafting world, so I figured I’d share!

Hey y’all! 💖💜💙

It’s been a while since I’ve been very active in the Taylor Swift side of tumblr, but I’m still supporting her! I thought I’d join in for LGBT selfie night to introduce myself and maybe make some friends along the way?

My name is Kelsey and I have a complicated relationship with my sexuality, which is mostly why I’ve still got only one foot out of the closet. I’m bi, and also like to consider myself a devout Catholic, so you can understand my concern. Despite the fact that everyone I’ve ever met from my church has been nothing but kind and welcoming to people like me, I’m nervous about being publicly bisexual around my peers, elders, and family members.

I’ve been listening to Taylor since I was about eight years old. She and her music have been there for me through every milestone of my late childhood, my tweens, my teens, and my adult years so far. I picked up a guitar because of her and have been playing nonstop since the 8th grade. I sing solo in front of my church every week, and learned to belt my heart out by singing along to Fearless in my bedroom. She taught me life lessons in love, heartache, friendship, strength, independence, and pride. I’m forever grateful for her inspiration, and hope I can one day hug her and thank her for being there for me over half my life.

Love ya, Ms. Swift. Thank you for letting me know there’s nothing wrong with being Me!

How does anyone hate kids they are so funny I sold tickets to incredibles to this little girl and her mom and she’s like mom are we sitting next to each other and the moms like ya and the kid screamed YES so loud it broke my ears

The other day I was bringing an older gentleman up the hill in a golf cart and we drove past this huge YMCA group of kids like 100 kids and driving past the first chunk like 10 of them yelled out “let me on” in unison and then since I’m driving so slowly to be safe, halfway in some kid leaned up and said “do you play fortnite” and I told him I played a little and he just pointed and shouted “THIS GUY PLAYS FORTNITE” and then like 20 kids started talking to me all at once about fortnite

A kid asked me if I lived in the ambulance. I said yes.

The hero we deserve

When I was on register at Kohl’s a little girl came through with her grandma and she was so very excited to tell me the meaning of her name (I think it was like warrior of god) and she begged her grandma for her phone so she could google to find out what my name means too

i wear two spinner rings on one finger and one time at my last job a young girl (probably 6-8) said “your ring is very pretty” and when i showed her it was two rings she GASPED and said “does that mean you’re marrying two people?!”

I have this necklace with a mermaid on it that I wear to work a lot and I got asked by a kid if it gave me magic powers. I leaned in real close and told her in a low voice it gave me magical girl powers but it was a secret. She got this real serious look on her face and said to her mom “that lady has superpowers, don’t tell anyone or the government will take her away”.

Wait buddy, pal, friend, I saw in your tags you were talking about Catholic Jack and do you have any headcanons for Catholic Jack because I need Catholic Jack???

oh my gosh this got lost in my inbox somehow and I’m only finding it just now??

okay I’m gonna make this as canon-compliant as possible and this might get a lil sad but -Jack’s father was Catholic and the two slipped away from the church around the time his dad was ‘kicked to the curb’ when Jack was still pretty young-Jack has this complex where he thinks he can’t go back to Mass because it’s been so long and he’s really conflicted about religion and God because he’s in such a bad place but he still prays often and wears a rusty old crucifix on a cord around his neck tucked under his shirt -he was never confirmed because it’s been like eight years since he and his dad were active in the Church-Jack and Elmer probably knew each other and went to the same parish but Elmer’s family had a similar situation.-Jack really admires the nuns not only because they feed him breakfast, but because he admires their dedication to the church and their work -the first time he goes inside a church in ages is right after Crutchie is arrested and Jack disappears. He knelt in the very back pew and prayed, shedding a few tears, because he couldn’t understand why any of this could happen -“If I wanted a sermon, I’d show up to church.” When I saw the show, he said it in such a sad way that my little heart went :(((((((-after they win the strike, he goes to Mass for the first time in years and finally feels a sense of peace inside.-I like to think that a few years post-strike, he and Katherine get engaged bc I’m such a big shipper. To be historically accurate, Joseph Pulitzer was Jewish, so Jack and Katherine probably got in a couple of arguments about where they would get married and all that but it all works out eventually.

so yeah, it may not be canon that he’s religious and some people may disagree with me, but Catholic Jack is one of my fave headcanons ever thank you for giving me an excuse to ramble about it
