With my 222ForgottenCities movement  I’ve made it my business to go and document all the places around the world where melanated people live that the media keeps a one dimensional view on. DeepEastOakland, South Jamaica Queens- NY, Brownsville - Brooklyn, 8thward

Mandeville - New Orleans, Englewood Chicago, North Philadelphia, West Baltimore, Watts California and (Tivoli Gardens) - Kingston Jamaica just to name a few.

Through these travels and visual cultivations I realized that we are all connected, not just through the struggle, but beyond the flesh & through the spirit. We are beautiful & it’s undeniably evident our vibrations keep this world spinning.

This realization was my inspiration to create something that could tie this message together and bring it to the people in a single bound, thus “THE POWER OF MELANIN” self published Book through 222MEDIA. This book was a way to create a blueprint, and sense of self that my people can heal their trauma and triggers through. Each picture I capture is a piece of history that I am giving back to my people that will uplift them. 

Melanin: A chemical found in the body of humans, plants, and animals that is responsible for the dark color or pigmentation of hair, skin, or eyes. Some say those people who have more melanin are special; while others say that everyone has melanin, and there’s nothing unique about it. What we say is that melanin is more than a color or pigmentation; it is a key identifier of that which has been especially given to us by the High Creator. Within these pages is a look at how melanin expresses itself in both our people and the plants and fruits of the earth, showing our connection with nature, and our oneness with the planet.

I was recently asked in a interview what is the most painful moment in my journey so far while creating 222forgottencities and why I make it my business to document my people daily all over this earth. This question made me think about all the moments I was told and taught that my people weren’t “shit but slaves.” It’s really crazy to know & feel daily that being Melanated in america is a threat for some so much that society has created systems to destroy us and conditioning for us to destroy our own existence for generations. We are bombarded in our schools, neighborhoods, jobs, and anywhere else in America that we exist in. 

So I guess my answer to that is daily I think about the seeds that have to wake up in a world full of hate and lies. I think about the mainstream media that makes money off my people’s downfall & conditioning, I think about my people that are struggling mentally trying to keep their sanity & survive in a world that is meant to distract us from healing. I think about my people with hella money so caught up in the matrix they can’t see pass the illusions and smokey mirrors. I think about how many families that are still suffering from the generational struggle that has been created for us to fail, but with those thoughts I also think about how this earth wouldn’t exist if it wasnt for my people. I think about how much I’ve traveled to communities where my people live with hella destruction but even more Love. I think about how effortless our existence is and always have been, from our hair, language, movement and overall culture. Society wants me to focus on our downfalls but instead I will continue creating ways for our healing and will remain focused on our royalty. That’s what keeps me uplifted + liberated & I want my people to feel the same.

The moment to look at ourselves from a pure perspective and not hate starts now. Create space for unconditional love towards yourself and your people daily. Uplift & Remind yourself daily the beauty of your existence so that you can do the same for your people.

THE POWER of OUR HAIR and Why I choose to document it is so my people & I can stay aligned within our roots and embrace our lineage that we have been taught to forget. There is Royalty and history embedded within every coil and Root of our hair. We are the earth. We are Nature & our hair is a reflection of that. Royalty is our existence & our hair is our crowns, Despite our conditioning this has been the case since ancient times when locs where worn by my people that built the pyramids.

I feel it’s important and hold myself accountable daily for having us stay connected to that in every aspect of our journey especially since we are guided to do otherwise.

Loving and embracing our hair in America is a revolutionary act against the sociological conditioning we’ve had to endure that has been passed down from generation to generation . The process of embracing our hair is a spiritual one & In many spaces the act of getting our hair braided is a way for us to build and Communicate with each other

WE MUST HEAL ourselves so that we can tap back into our roots and tribal energy that we come from!
