Made with a collection of various symbols I felt worked well with the WITCH I stitched in variegated blue/purple embroidery floss. Featuring stars, a crescent moon, a raven or crow, and a purple flower I thought suited the night time feel of the piece. 🌙

This one started off as a cross stitch but the gorgeous twisted embroidery floss I purchased was too thick. 😭 So I just went off and started doing whatever felt right. It’s completely free handed with no drawing, drafting, etc so it’s imperfectly perfect. 🍂 I’m not officially selling my pieces yet but I started offering them to friends on FB to raise money for more supplies and it sold as soon as I posted it. I feel so proud. ❤️
NEW! <3 So in love with this piece! The toad was seen to Medieval Christians as a representation of the Devil or at least connected to him through their associations with witches. The Devil was a popular figure in various tales but much of the time it was the folkloric Devil and therefore actually other spirits and beings. Something witches even now work with as they are everywhere. Exploring the darker side of human nature isn't inherently bad and toads can represent that dark side. The views on this can be heavily influenced by the religious baggage one may have from being influenced by the wider culture that influences our lives. In some stories a witch could be identified by searching their body for a mark by a toad. Either seen in the eye or with an imprint of the foot on the body, etc. The toad was also "known" to be used in spells. Both in curses and cures. It is associated with fertility and the female womb as well as aiding one in becoming invisible, warning one of being poisoned, in healing the body and more. My favorite aspect of the toad is through it's connections with the Otherworld and it's ability to become a bridge between worlds.
