What looks like a dog, is called a tiger, and has a pouch? The Tasmanian Tiger, aka the Thylacine! :D This was species of carnivorous marsupial that went extinct in 1936. Its closest living relative is thought to be either the Tasmanian devil or numbat. The thylacine was one of only two marsupials to have a pouch in both sexes Before it’s extinction, the thylacine was the last member of the Thylacinidae family. Intensive hunting encouraged by bounties is generally blamed for its extinction, but other contributing factors may have been disease, the introduction of dogs, and human encroachment into its habitat. Despite its official classification as extinct, sightings are still reported, though none have been conclusively proven. Sad fact: The last known thylacine was captured in the wild and taken to a zoo where it lived for three years before it died on September 7, 1936 … from neglect.
