Do you know that post going around that basically says "im not saying every lesbian should survive. Im saying not every lesbian must die"?

Yeah, okay so Root’s death should have been the death that could’ve happened in this situation while every other show who had killed a queer character in 2016 could have avoided it. I’m saying this but it hurts seeing that Root and Lexa were my absolute favorite characters on TV, so saying that Root should die is paining me a lot but let me explain. POI did not queerbait! Yes, obviously they sold the fact that Root and Shaw love each other arguably much less than The 100 did with Clexa which in my opinion shows a good sign of respect but you know what they always did as well? Say that nobody is safe to the question “is there hope for Root and Shaw?” Instead of saying that there was hope like Jason did with Clexa. They did kill Root but she had a good death. She died true to her character and with a peace of mind that Lexa didn’t. Lexa had just consummated her love with Clarke but so many stuff was still pending, like all that was happening with Arkadia and Polis. Root died after being reunited with Shaw which gave closure to all the months of searching she did for Shaw. She finally belonged somewhere. She had a cause to fight for. She was happy, she had no unfinished business and she is now with the god that she always believed. The machine.

So from all the deaths that happened this year. The one death I would have been “okay” with would have been Root. Now the problem I have isn’t a matter of “POI is yet another show that queerbaited me”, no, my problem is “yet another queer character dead and I have nowhere to turn”. Had Root been the only death, I would have been relatively fine because I would have other ships to turn too to find that peace and comfort I find in my ships while feeling reassured that my favorite character had a good death. Now I have few ships and those ships are either not canon or I fear for their life. So, I’m not fine but I don’t blame POI either and will continue watching.

1/2 i know we're all upset over root's death and by extension what that means for root/shaw, but i dont think the relationship was "hyped up" by PoI writers the way ahem another-show-did. PoI writers and actors/actresses said it was going to be a romantic reunion w/ more Root/Shaw moments and they delivered on that. The writers also repeatedly commented that PoI is a dark series without a happy ending. Even Chris F. warned fans that a fav char will die in 5x10.

2/2 I dont like that it means it means the end for Root/Shaw, but it’s unfair to PoIteam to get criticism about root’s death. they gave warning. I also dont see root’s death as “by a stray bullet” but rather protecting harold which happened to be catching a bullet for harold.

yeah like my first thought after that scene was that, wow in literally a split second they managed to make it go from oh my god harold is really gonna die to oh my god root is really gonna die to oh my god root didn’t get hit to oh my god root got hit but like she’s okay right to oh my god what—-

but yeah i think you also do have a point that poi was never a romantic show. maybe what we’ve gotten so far in the season has been their version of big romantic blowouts, which, i mean,

i guess it just comes down to the expectations ppl got when they read stuff like “fans are gonna be happy with it” etc etc. because to some ppl maybe that means “they’ll be happy for those two episodes where they did things!” and to others that means “it’s a happy ending!” and to others it means something else entirely.

anyway i’m still just gonna sit here and wait for cyborg root to return and see exactly how it plays out and what that means for my sappy ass root n shaw shippin heart

I’m not an avid television watcher, but I’ve watched POI since the pilot and coming this far with everything, if you really love this show you have to understand that what they had happen would have happened anyway. I’ve only heard of stuff that went on in the 100, but this show isn’t the fucking 100. Honestly a lot of you need to chill and respect people for doing their jobs. Don’t go at Amy or start attacking Michael’s pages because of something that was written by somebody else for them. They are amazing actors and I stand by the show and everyone working with it because they have been nothing but supporting and respectful. In terms of to fans of the show, relationships, expansive storylines and character development, etc. I have not seen a more well character than Root. Amy Acker’s an amazing actress. Yes, it’s extremely sad they might have killed her right when she and Shaw found each other again, but like Amy said. Root’s dream came true. She gets to be with The Machine. We had been predicting her death since she became a regular because she was always the one most willing to die if it were for the greater good. She was always willing to die for Shaw and Harold. From a lonely little girl in Texas who had been hiding since she was 12 to being in New York, saving lives, falling in love, and finally having a family. She went out a hero.

it hurts, of course it hurts. we all want a happily ever after since 307. but you really have to go all the way back to season 1&2 root to understand why the creators choose this path for her.

Root died for her family. I’m starting to get upset about people who are reducing Root to ½ of a ship. She was a person. She was a complicated person and dying to save Harold was completely in character and for that matter, completely expected. The way their relationship evolved from early seasons made sense that this was the climax.

It sucks, man. It hurt, but I understand.

Code 307 doesn’t apply. please go away

reposting for the tag:

POI set up a story, from the beginning of the series, that made it clear main characters were going to fucking die.
POI made it clear this season that they were fighting an uphill battle against a superior team and likely most of them would not make it, from the beginning of the season.
POI is in it’s last season and this was the 10th episode of 13… so none of the remaining mains dying until now is them really trying to hold off.
POI made a big point of letting us know there is no way the team win this… by having the two battling AIs (one crippled by morals) battle it out in simulations and the big bad AI won all 10 billion + simulations (not an exaggeration).
POI JUST alerted its last main character about the true nature of the beast they’re fighting… on episode 9 of 13… so anyone with just a little sense knew we were arriving to the “people are about to start dying” portion of the end.
POI is a show you fuckers didn’t give a shit about before March and the sick joke is you trying to force this into a pattern that doesn’t fit it.

I'm upset

Because the people posting code 307 in regards to Root dying have never even WATCHED the show. The people that watched? We KNEW there was a possibility of them all dying. We knew, one way or another, people were going to die. We know how the show operates, and we’re happy with it. Its the last damn season, let us have our show. The most upsetting death? Joss Carter. Or if Bear dies. Otherwise,we good.

This wasn’t just a random stray bullet. This was a bullet, intended for Harold, that Root placed herself in front of. Her ending was a conscious choice. And she was right. Root is still alive. The Machine knows Root better than anyone else in the world, probably better than herself. Root lives on. I’m sorry if you don’t agree with it. I’m sorry if you had some weird expectation that Root and Shaw were going to ride off into the sunset. That was never in the cards and we all knew it.

But I’ll always remember the night we shot the climax: two in the morning in a frigid Toronto December, with a burned-out van in the background, Tat on her knees as Cosima. The moment when Evie tells her Delphine was shot, and Tat just… comes apart. None of us expected it. It was so raw, and real. I was dumbstruck. I actually felt bad for putting her through it.

There was no second take. We didn’t need one. x
