Do you ever stop and think about how horrified Season 1 Root would have been to find out that S5 Root gave her life to protect Harold and the Machine? That she had actually built such strong attachments to people that she crashed a wedding because she was lonely by herself, turned a gun on herself to stop Shaw from spiraling, and ultimately died to protect the ones she loved? 

I just imagine S1 Root tsking in disapproval, being all, “Sweetie, I know you want a place to belong, but this is the family you choose? This is the love of your life that you are willing to give up everything for? This is who you give your life up for?”

“How badly did they have to break you to make you care about people so much?” 

Turns out, all it takes is 3 people, a dog, and an all-seeing Machine.
