Whilst I’m here, I offer you lovely people the cover art to Higher Earth issue 5. After the previous issues focus on Rex, I thought it’d be nice to let the fearsome and beautiful Heidi take centre stage for this one. It’s amazing how one can bond with a character when drawing them. Usually it takes the form of reading their words in a script which is then focussed thru the lense of the art until the character becomes a joint-ownership thing between the writer and the doodler (sort of like our fiction-baby).

However in the case of these covers I’ve been working pretty much on my own (with some prompts from the boss of course) which means that each cover has been a very personal and private experience in bringing these characters to life. Heidi is awesome, she is feral, she is cunning, and she doesn’t care a squit about fashion as the dirty blood-and-muck stained trousers testify. Those dudes on the floor? They thought she’d be easy. To a creature like her they were little more than an annoyance. Wouldn’t date her (she may well rip my spine out for the first unintentionally offensive dirty joke I told, plus she may pong a bit) but man we can hang out anytime, especially if I’m hanging out in some freaky-ass alternate world where dodgy men in tight spandex body suits are looking to carve me up with laser swords.
