I originally listed Anthony Trollope but cut him in favor of Oscar Wilde for reasons (Wilde is better, imo). So, if your favorite 19th Century English Lit author isn't listed, you can yell at me in the comments, or reblogs, or through an ask.

I second this motion, even though there’s only a slim chance of the H3 owner being on Tumblr and seeing this. And we won’t be able to read the pages anyway, b/c they’re written in a made-up language. Don’t care. I would still LOVE to see the pages.

Social Media

Okay, not sure what is going to happen in regards to my tumblr or tumblr in general. I mean, I’ve never made any art, but I’ve certainly reblogged my share. Also, I reblog nearly everything Rumbelle, Robert Carlyle, Emilie de Ravin, and dogs and cats, and that seems to be flagged too. So, in case my tumblr ends up on the naughty list, if you’re interested in staying connected, here’s my social media below.

Hopefully this will all blow over. But whatever happens, I’ve had a great four years on here and hope it will continue.

Reason and Romance: Chapter 1

Synopsis:  Rummond and Bae Gold must leave their home and begin anew at Avonlea Cottage, on the estate of Sir Maurice French. They hope to live quietly and happily in Devonshire, but when Rummond and Bae are both thwarted in love, they cope in their own distinctive ways. They come to support one another and must pursue their happy endings.

Author Note:  A Sense and Sensibility AU of sorts that’s been on my mind for a couple years now. I’m rereading S&S, so I thought I’d give it a try. I hope it honors Austen’s classic. Not beta-ed or properly researched; expect a ton of mistakes.

 October

London

Rummond Gold ambled to the little table by the door, where the maid left the post after it arrived. Recognizing the penmanship on one of the missives, he snatched it up, broke the seal and skimmed the contents of the letter. He sighed contentedly; he had been waiting for something like this for months.

Since he had been seriously wounded and discharged from the army, he and his son Bae had been living with his father, Malcolm. His military pension didn’t stretch very far, nor did the annual stipend he received after his mother Fiona passed. He expected to come home to Milah and Bae and settle down in their little cottage. Instead, he learned that Milah had run off with a naval captain and Bae was living with Malcolm in his cramped, dirty apartments in the slums of London. He laid aside his own pain, both physical and emotional, and did his best to comfort his son.

Peels of laughter emanated from Malcolm’s room…both masculine and feminine laughter.

Morning reblog! ::waves::

problems with millennials

  • they’re all following this jesus nonsense instead of the old roman religion
  • they only know what it’s like under the empire and not the glory of the res publica
  • all of them want to follow weird greek fashions like writing poetry and growing beards instead of following the mos maiorum and wearing togas
  • they’re all so used to this cushy “pax romana” nonsense that none of them want to conquer anything like their ancestors did, and they probably don’t even remember carthage
  • they have no idea what it was like living before the common era
  • have any of them ever risen up on their own to depose a king or stab a tyrant? i think not

Friend, if you enjoy something and it makes you happy–an activity, a sport, a hobby, a television show–enjoy it. Experience what you love without fear and reservation. Talk about it, think about it, tell others about it. Love it with all your heart!

Maybe others don’t feel the same way about what you love as you do, and that’s okay. They have a right to their feelings and to their likes and dislikes, too. We all experience the world through different lenses and interpret life and events in unique ways.

But don’t let anyone else invalidate your feelings about what you love. Don’t let anyone else tell you your enjoyment is wrong or ignorant. Don’t quit or be silenced based on someone else’s opinion about what you’re allowed to enjoy.

There will always be people who try to invalidate your happiness and take away your joy; don’t give them the satisfaction or the power.

GO ON LOVING AND DOING YOUR THING.

I feel like I should make a post about this because it’s not something that’s very well-known, and that Americans in particular may need to know about given the uncertain state of our healthcare system at the moment. I’ve wanted to write this out for a while, It’s kind of a long post, so sorry about that!

If you have an emergency and have to go to the hospital, you’ll owe the hospital a lot of money. (I got into a car wreck and broke my ankle and my arm. My hospital bill was around $20,000)

You’ll also owe the ambulance provider, if you need one. (My ambulance bill was about $800)

You may get separate bills from the anesthesiologist or surgeon. (My anesthesiologist bill was $1,700)

You may need follow-up appointments. (My orthopedic surgeon billed me for the appointments and his surgery together and it was about $1,000)

You’ve also got to pay for medical equipment you need afterward, like crutches or a walking boot. (Mine cost about $75)

Altogether, I ended up with almost $24,000 in medical debt from one car accident. That’s a really scary number for someone like me who makes $10/hr at a 12 hour a week job.

I got my debt down to $1075 by making some phone calls and submitting some paperwork.

The first thing I did was contact the hospital. They don’t make it easy to find, but many hospitals (perhaps most hospitals?) have financial assistance programs for people who can’t afford medical bills. I don’t make a lot of money, and I have bills to pay, so they were able to help me. I called the billing department and asked if they had any assistance programs for low income people who can’t pay their bills. I had to call multiple times, and I got transferred in circles by people who didn’t know what I was talking about. Finally, I got an appointment with someone in “Eligibility Services” (I don’t know what other hospitals call it, if it’s something different). I had to bring my pay stubs and copies of all of my bills. When I got to the hospital for the appointment, nobody knew what I was talking about so I had to wander a little to find where I needed to go. I spoke with the guy in Eligibility Services, and I waited for a decision on how much of the bill they would forgive. A month later, I got a call telling me it was totally forgiven.

I did the same thing for my ambulance bill and my anesthesiologist, but the process was a LOT easier. I just had to mail some paperwork and it was totally forgiven.

I didn’t bother with the medical equipment suppliers, since the bills came from separate companies and I didn’t feel like going through the process twice for $75. I was assured at the hospital that they had similar programs for debt forgiveness, so I could have probably avoided paying that too.

The only thing I couldn’t get taken care of was the surgeon/follow-up appointment cost, but they were able to put me on a no-interest payment plan.

Medical debt is scary because it’s something that can come from stuff that’s already really scary. I didn’t need the burden of $24,000 in debt on top of trying to get around on a crutch with a broken arm (it’s not easy, believe me!).. but I can’t imagine what it would be like with a bigger debt or a more severe medical emergency. I see lots of people in even worse trouble than I was in, both financially and medically. Please know that there are options for you when that GoFundMe doesn’t do enough. Even if your income is higher than mine, it’s worth a shot even for partial debt forgiveness.

PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU LIVE IN AMERICA AND HAVE MEDICAL BILLS

I work in the medical field (almost 4 years now), and this is TRUE.

Many hospital systems/companies have financial assistance programs, payment plan options, and even charity based plans.

Please keep in mind that each hospital system/company is different, but it is worth looking into and asking questions, especially if you have seen (or currently see) multiple specialists, doctor offices, or other places where you are a patient (Emergency Departments included).

I have personally informed many patients (and even friends or family) of these options (as money is tight for everyone, even if you DO have insurance). Most of them have no idea that this is a thing until you tell them or they do some digging on their own.

So if you are in a situation like the one mentioned above, please ask about financial assistance- it’s worth it! 😊

oh this is a life saver

So these are both “Aw Fuck I’m outta real food” meals BUT ALSO:  if you’re learning how to cook, these are great “baby steps” meals to learn how to cook basics into something enjoyable without “wasting” anything expensive.  Though I maintain that even cooking screw-ups are valuable in terms of lessons learned.

Also they’re great for when you get absorbed in something and you realize your blood sugar is dropping and you need to make something Quick.

They’re also fantastic for spoonies with limited mobility and chronic pain that makes cooking really hard and painful! Thanks for sharing OP :D

do you ever just think about Jesus living here on earth

i think sometimes we tend to think He just bounced from one miracle to another and everyday was a Bible story but His ministry lasted for three years and the Gospels don’t actually cover that much so

imagine all those ordinary days??

He probably had favorite foods and morning routines and sore dirty feet from walking while sweat ran in His eyes in the hot Judean sun and He got blisters and hiccups and colds and maybe He snored

all the times He laughed till He cried and i bet He had inside jokes with His disciples. imagine having an inside joke with the person who gives you breath to laugh in the first place

and He had human skills He knew how to build a house and cook and wash his clothes and read

passing food at the dinner table and bumping hands with Jesus

talking about silly inconsequential things like the weather

maybe some nights John was sleepy and he leaned against Jesus and could hear His heartbeat

maybe some nights a disciple had insomnia and he climbed out of his bedroll to find Jesus sitting against a rock, looking up at heaven, and they sat and watched the stars together

(the God of the universe looking up through short-sighted eyes at His creation, and the disciple wants so badly to ask what it was like to shape each star, but he looks at those calloused human hands and something in him trembles)

do you ever think that the ordinary days so far outnumbered the miraculous ones that the disciples, sometimes, almost forgot

and then He goes and turns water into wine and feeds five thousand people from a kid’s lunch and brings dead Lazarus walking alive out of the tomb and they just kind of lose their breath

not because they didn’t expect deity to accomplish the impossible but because this God has been living with them

it’s not the miracles that are unthinkable

This is so beautiful.

Also, imagine his ordinary days with his family. Imagine Joseph telling him stories and he listening, paying attention. Imagine when Joseph and Mary put child Jesus in bed and could hear his breathing sounds. Or imagine the inside jokes he had with his mother about his father, or with his father about his mother. Imagine the God of the world not only looking at the stars but also watching the majesty of a sunset. Imagine child Jesus running around the house, singing beautiful and cute cultural songs that Mary might’ve taught him. Imagine his joy when he ate his favorite food or taking a bath after a hot day.

Imagine Joseph’s doubt when figuring out that he would have to teach carpentry to God himself. And that Jesus, the Lord, actually took time to listen and learn his old father’s words. Imagine God’s humble attitudes. We usually say that he humbled himself by coming as a human. But it’s only when we actually think about what makes us human, that we get the idea of how big was it. The God of the world taking time and putting effort to learn what we, merely humans, had to teach/say. And he wanted to. He wanted to be near us. And be one of us. When God lowered himself, that’s when He showed us how big He was.
