The creatures that Louis observed every day weren’t exactly human, but yet they were. Researchers had plucked some of them from their secluded island and transplanted them into an enclosure against their will like a bunch of zoo animals. Louis didn’t think they were. But he was only paid to do the yardwork, he didn’t have any say about the wilds that lived there. That was until an unfortunate accident changed his life forever and made one wild in particular his top priority.
This is part of a Wordplay prompt challenge that a group of us are participating in for the prompt “Hope”. Back in 2018 on the tail end of a sleep dep high, I came up with and then wrote 13k words of this world within 24 hours. I loved this world and very shortly started to write a sequel. I don’t know what led me to open this WIP the other night, but I did and then read through it. I never finished it because it didn’t feel like it was living up to the original, but I know now that it is unlikely that I will have the time or motivation to rewrite it at this point.
So I decided I would just post it as is.
They were wild - that’s what everyone said. They were sensationalized in the media and a fascination for anyone who saw them. But they weren’t animals and they all had a story of how they got here.
