Ok, I've seen this sentiment before, but the amount of Kindle Unlimited ads I've been seeing is forcing me to repeat it-

Kindle Unlimited is offering two free months of unlimited ebooks. As a trial. Which will then become a paid subscription.

Your local library is offering unlimited ebooks all the time. Forever. No contracts, no predatory practices, no tracking of how long you spend on each particular page in the hopes that information about your habits can be sold for a profit.

Use your library. They want so badly to give you all of the things for free.

I’ve been getting ebooks from the library (I have three local library systems that I’m entitled to get a card with, and I use all three) for a few years now, and I’m reading more and more widely, and discovering authors I then want to buy new releases from, and who’ve influenced my writing. Library ebook programs are great.

A lot of them also have audiobooks, so you won’t need Audible either.

Settings ➡️ Google ➡️ all services ➡️ Ads ➡️ Delete advertising ID

(may differ slightly depending on android version and manufacturer firmware. you can't just search settings for "advertising ID" of course 🔪)

iOS:

Settings ➡️ privacy ➡️ tracking ➡️ toggle "allow apps to request to track" to OFF

and ALSO settings ➡️ privacy ➡️ Apple advertising ➡️ toggle "personalized ads" to OFF

If you're doing something you don't want your government to know about, turn off you phone and leave it at home. Print out a paper map if you must.

Seriously, deleting an ad ID is insufficient. Your phone can even be tracked if it's off!

Simply do not bring the "see your location at all times" device to places where you could be persecuted for going. No even if you think you know how to turn that functionality off. I promise you don't know enough about how to actually turn off every possible avenue through which this could happen, because the advice of everybody who does is "hahaha, no just leave the phone at home".

While the Onion buying InfoWars is indeed extremely funny, very few of the posts I've seen commenting on the sale have mentioned that the families of the Sandy Hook victims apparently agreed to voluntarily reduce their lawsuit payout as part of a deal to ensure that the Onion would acquire InfoWars wholesale, rather than having the company broken up and auctioned off piecemeal, as the latter course could potentially have allowed some of those pieces to end up back in the hands of Alex Jones' cronies.

Like, yes, it is in fact very funny that InfoWars is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Clickhole, but the real props go out to the Sandy Hook families who saw the opportunity and willingly gave up the additional millions of dollars that could have been realised by stripping InfoWars for parts in order to make that happen.

Like, even if OFMD is focused on a romance (rightfully, it's the story they set to tell), it's never felt amatonormative to me. There are multiple characters that are shown having funny, whacky, fulfilling lives without a partner, there are several canon poly characters, and the show celebrates platonic love often (Izzy's "big love story" in s2 is about falling in platonic love with the crew; it's often remarked upon that the fact that Ed and Stede are each other's first real friend is equally important to them being each other's first romantic love...). Even if a romantic monogamous relationship is the focus, it's never alienated me as an aro person bc the team has crafted a world in which I know I'd feel free to be myself. That's my two cents.

I hope it's okay to add to this. To me it feels like OFMD is a story that just, loves love in all its forms and celebrates them. It doesn't just love one type of love. Already just the main couple get to experience several "types" of love with each other, and each of them is treated with equal care and importance. They get to fall in first time romantic love with each other, but they are also instant best friends (and if you don't say you love your best friend you never had one), and they get to be in a mature, "I-want-to-build-a-life-and-partnership-with-you" love as well. We get Jim and Oluwande, who are family for each other, regardless of what else they might be. We get Stede's love for his crew, we get the whole crew as family vibes, and all of these many different forms of love, romantic, friendship, family loves, they are all beautiful and the show celebrates them equally.
