i mean for the palestinians the war is never over
just because they've stopped actively killing them in one of the worst genocides doesn't mean it's over for them
"they can return to their homes! their towns! their villages!" what homes? they've been bombed into rubble!
The fact that absolutely no-one on tumblr is talking about the Emilia Perez movie is just.
It has everything this hellsite loves. The music. The queerness. The Selena Gomez. It has Goncharov vibes but make it Mexican. Wake up y'all.
EDIT : Not gonna delete the post because it's good to let people know of what's wrong with the movie. Look at the tags and notes to learn more about the issues surrounding the movie 👉
(and everyone chill and educate people before you attack them)
Reasons why this movie is hot garbage:
- The director does not speak spanish or english, all the dialogue is google translated french to spanish and it absolutely shows (Latam is collectively saying wtf)
- The director decided he "did not need to research Mexico" as he "knew enough" leading to racist stereotypes
- The casting director said they "had to hire Americans" because "there is no talent in Mexico"
- The film was not filmed in Mexico, it was filmed on a sound stage in France
- Selena was hired for her star power and "latinidad" but her spanish is utter ass, like, has become a meme on Mexican tiktok because of how bad it is (a very famous Mexican actor/director called her out and she played victim, he had to apologise)
- On the star power, the director is pretending to "not know who she was beforehand" but the role was changed from a Mexican woman to an American who moved to Mexico to adapt to her terrible spanish
- The main character is a Mexican narco who transitions, this role is played by a Spanish actress, Spanish accent and Mexican accent is WIDLY DIFFERENT, the equivalent would be to have a British actor using their british accent while playing an American
- Narcos are kind of the cause for disappeared people in Mexico and the story goes that after she transitions she wants to help what she caused in the first place but now with less power ?
- The spanish actress scolded Mexicans for being put off by her playing a Mexican and not being Mexican by implying that suffering is human, idk her tweet is weird [please note that Spain colonised Mexico and there is a lot of racism from Spanish people towards Mexicans/Latam in general so, a Spanish actress shutting down Mexicans for their feelings with examples based on Spanish artists is condescending]
- Zoe's accent is also ass although she's suposed to be a lawyer who has been living in Mexico for 20 years ?
- The film is kind of zionist ? Paints Israel as a trans person's haven for sex reassignment surgery so a bit of pinkwashing to boot
- The film will not be shown in Mexico until after awards season because Mexicans and Latam in general are super put off by the whole thing.
- [To Add] They did brown face, the actress is a white blond blue eyes european lady and they "transformed her" to "look mexican" see:
(Yes, the above are all the same actress) It sucks that a trans story line with a trans actress is so wrapped up in a bunch of bullshit racism but, it is. All of the praise coming out of Cannes and Hollywood is pretty obviously Americans and europeans who DO NOT know Spanish because, for us Spanish speakers it is incredibly ass, like, doesn't make sense ass. The director (European) the main actress (European) and the other two mains (Americans) are not hearing any critisisim and being pretty condescending towards Mexicans.
Watch it, don't watch it, I'm not your mom but, this is just a psa.

I’m not surprised a movie as terrible as Emilia Perez is being awarded by mostly white audiences and white film critics, it gives them exactly what they want on how they perceive Mexico. A French man had not business doing this movie. Particularly when it admitted not to feel the need to do research since he already knew “enough” hence why the movie is filled with so many harmful stereotypes. And heavy on how the casting director insinuated there wasn’t good Mexican actors to star in this movie outside of the half white/American ones it got for this film. The movie is absolutely trash from acting to script. Not wonder they released the movie in European countries first before going into Mexico - they knew the reception it was gonna get from Latin countries and didn’t want the bad reviews and opinions to affect their award buzz - and it worked. The award shows will never convince me it was a good movie with performances worthy of acclaim. The movie was at best another over-dramatic romanticization musical of cartel violence and we were supposed to think it was progressive because of the main character. Hopefully Fernanda Torres’ win allows I’m Still Here to get a bigger leap into that Best Foreign Film win at the Oscars. The rightful Latin representation.

luigi mangione, the SUSPECTED (innocent until proven guilty) united healthcare shooter, has been charged with terrorism. that’s right. a man who supposedly shot ONE SINGLE PERSON is being charged with terrorism. because in america, billionaires lives matter enough that a SINGLE rich man’s death is considered a terrorist act against this country. think about that.
The level of entitled of white people making a full movie about México about a problematic of the country which cast is full of white people, made by a french man who didn't even try to do his research and not even recorded in the country, making a completely direspectful and full of ignorance movie that glamorize the white persoective and ridiculize a serious problematic then getting upset when mexicans told them it's an awful movie.

Brandon Lee (Kwon) did an interview and said he accidentally hit Mary in the stomach during the brawl scene because he thought it was her stunt double since originally it was supposed to be an stunt double with a pad and didn’t realize they had switched places, and that even when he hit her extremely hard then, she never broke character once. Sadly, Mary being extremely professional and committed to her karate stunts goes unappreciated by this fandom. I don’t even like CK that much but this fandom makes me want to root for Mary harder, and wish for an excellent post CK career for her.
Wicked was actually incredible and one of the best musical adaptations I’ve seen in a while. As expected, Cynthia was the perfect Elphaba. A performance full of vulnerability and strength. Ariana was charming and her comedic timing was impeccable. Of course, their voices and those harmonies were perfect. Guess that’s what happens when you hire people that can sing and have musical theater experience and with a director that knows how to film musicals.
This is an insane day for people who got into theatre by randomly coming across bootlegs of this show called wicked on a then-emerging video sharing site called YouTube in like 2006-2007 and were compelled by the lesbianism between the leads
I have not seen the new Wicked movie yet, but I like the musical and one thing that is pissing me off is people getting their panties in a wad anytime someone suggests that Glinda is… not good, and at times is the villain.
The entire point of her character is that she is a privileged white girl who constantly utilizes her privilege and likability to get what she wants while putting others, particularly women of color down. Glinda doesn’t do anything in the entirety of the two acts that doesn’t benefit her.
Not to mention, there are several analysis of the song “No One Mourns the Wicked,” talking about how Glinda’s lines about the wicked are referring to herself.
Furthermore, it’s mostly Ariana Grande stans saying this shit, and I’m begging you guys to learn how to separate the character from the actress.
The beauty of Glinda is that she is a complex character, in the same way Elphaba is. She wants to be good and she doesn’t want to hurt anyone, but her inability to use her privilege for good rather than for self-serving purposes is what causes the downfall of many.
The entire point of Glinda is that she prioritizes looking good in the eyes of others above actually doing good things, and by the time she realizes, it’s to late. Her “wickedness” had already taken away everyone she’s ever loved, hence the line, “Goodness knows, the wicked’s lives are lonely,” because it wasn’t about Elphaba, as Elphaba was never truly alone in the musical.
