Do you think Rayllum will be canon?

Honestly? I’m not sure. I definitely think they have boatloads, and I mean boatloads, of potential. Aaron Ehasz  himself has said they’re not ignoring the possibility of a Rayllum romance. However, he’s also said that, “I will tell you that in Dragon Prince I had some initial instincts about some of the characters from a shipping perspective that over time are already starting to surprise me… but more on that later!” [X] and given that Rayllum was ship teased very early on in their first meeting in 1x02, it’s really too early to tell.

However, here are some of the reasons I think Rayla and Callum have, at the very least, a very distinctive relationship with each other, and one that would lend itself very well to romance:

This may seem simple on the first glance, but what I mean is that Callum always, consistently, takes an active interest in her. He wants to get to know her. He is almost always concerned for her. And he clearly spends time thinking about her and trying to figure her out. Part of that is because he’s older, and can understand the gravity of the situation they’re in better than Ezran can because of his youth, so some of that may be mistrust. However, we also know that just as much of it comes from a genuine place, such as:

in 3x01, do think rayla and callum would have kissed if she hadn't turned away?? i was trying to analyze the way they looked at each other and his little smile once they made eye contact. he was obviously delaying the moment, adjusting the scarf, because he didn't want her to go out there. maybe he read her terrified expression as relating to sol regem, and smiled reassuringly like "hey you got this" yet we know as the audience that she was nervous bc he was touching her/gazing at her lol idk

i’m going to say no for a few reasons:

1) on callum’s end, there wasnt any romantic tension. i agree with what you said: he was delaying her going out there and risking her life, and he smiled at her in reassurance

you can tell here callum doesn’t really think much about adjusting his scarf on rayla: he’s too worried about her, you know, dying to be worried about romance. on the other hand rayla is taken off guard/is surprised by the gesture. when they make eye contact callum smiles at her reassuringly (more in a supportive way than a romantic way)

2) on rayla’s end, it’s a bit different because she’s already very well aware that she has feelings for callum. may i reference this scene: 

because of this, she took the scarf adjusting way more awkwardly than callum did which is why she looked away in the first place. based on what actually happens, rayla would be too awkard and unsure to kiss him in that moment whether she turned away or not. 

3) neither of them were in that mindset. it flat out wasn’t the right time to have a romantic moment. if they DID kiss i would berate them because guys you’re literally about to die its not the time to be all lovey feely okay 

4) in conclusion, callum’s lack of romantic thoughts and rayla’s overload of romantic tension prevents the possibility of a kiss even if rayla didn’t turn away 

this actually makes me ask: when rayla does turn away, what does callum think of it? it’s hard for me to read expressions, but he might’ve thought he did something wrong. i don’t know though.
