Also why is everyone mad at Haida???? He is trying??? How dare he right? He should have just ignored Retsuko and let her cry forever alone and not make any effort and let her come to him (which she wouldn’t) because that’s the correct thing to do according to all these psyche majors with their own issues.

ALSO him not choosing Inui is not stupid or evil or whatever. If he doesn’t want to be with her he doesn’t want to be with her? Okay? He is following his heart over his brain okay?? BUT would everyone be happy if he forced himself to try and love her? To be like “Yeah, I’m choosing you because apparently I can’t do any better and I just should give up on the girl I love because everyone says so including her.” CALL ME A HOPELESS ROMANTIC BUT THAT SHITS GOOD OKAY (Inui deserves someone who puts her first and Haida thinks so too!!!!!)

I do hope there is a season 4 where Retsuko finally loves him, even though I know it’s not realistic BUT I DONT WATCH CARTOONS FOR REALISM OKAY!!!!???????

What are your thoughts on Kagami and Adrien's relationship? Doesn't it seem that Kagami is being a bit too controlling and even maybe dominant? Especially when she said "your indecision hurts me." Like what's the difference between her and Gabriel if there going to rant about how Adrien disappoints them or hurts them? Just wanted ur say on this

Avatar

While I have lots of feelings on why Kagami and Adrien shouldn’t be in a relationship for multiple reasons including their dynamic and how it creates a power imbalance and will allow for no growth…

Kagami’s reaction at the beginning of Miracle Queen is not one of those things. She went on a date with Adrien all day, had a lot of fun, he willingly was alone with her, he enjoys her company and has been her “date” on several occasions. Having a guy throw all these indicators that he’s interested in you, but when you act on those signals and he pulls away?

“Your indecision hurts me” sums it up pretty well. Him playing with her feelings is hurting her. If he really isn’t interested in her, his inability to voice that outright and tell her straight up is hurting her. If he is interested in her, him still thinking of another girl as more important than her is hurting her. His hesitation to just make a decision is hurting her.

That’s why it’s insane that Kagami is still holding onto the hope that she and him will end up together. Because this isn’t the first time he’s pulled this sort of stunt, so why is she, a no nonsense straight shooter who knows what she wants, still putting herself through this?

Some ML fix its

(some light spoilers for love eater in miracle queen btw, not a lot, just be warned)

Story continuity seems to be their weakest area when I think back, and it goes beyond needing to have the story be mostly episodic because of the weird scheduling. There’s just such a lack of focus on the story arcs that they clearly want to tell but seem to tell out of order for no reason, but it would be pretty easy to fix and I don’t really get why they did certain things in the order they did them.

What I would have done was have Lila’s season 3 arc in season 2, and Chloe’s season 2 arc in season 3. Considering Lila was no where to be found until the end of season 2, and Chloe barely had a presence in season 3 until the finale, just like, switch it.

In a plot that flows better, Lila wouldn’t hide in her bedroom and disappear for a whole season after Volpina only to show back up for no reason. I get that she’s trying to save face after she’s outed to Adrien for being a liar, but in season 3 she comes back anyway and still pursues him so clearly she’s not that embarrassed. To show just how much confidence she has in her charisma and lies, Chameleon should have come after the Collector and reintroduce her. Ladybug outed her? So what, she’s not going to let that stop her from getting the fame that she wants. Then Lila’s reign over Marinette’s class can start there, and Catalyst and Heroes day will feel like an appropriate conclusion to the season.

There’s also Marinette. In Heroes Day she had her entire class throw a picnic for her to show their appreciation for her as a person, that they know she’s a big help to them all. This should have come after a season of Marinette trying to prove to them all that Lila is lying to them and the class not believing her, not right before an episode where suddenly her everyday Ladybug status means nothing to a classroom full of characters that seem to have lost their marbles. Have a season where Marinette is desperately trying to prove to her class that she only has their best interests at heart, that she cares for them and will actually go to the end of the world for them while Lila can say that she will but never delivers. The ending of season 2 would require some tweaking and combining with the episode Ladybug but this is when Lila should be temporarily shelved, which leads to season 3 being more about Chloe.

In season 2 I would thread some bits about Chloe wanting to be a hero but for the wrong reasons, demanding a miraculous from Ladybug after she sees Rena Rouge and Carapace’s debut but never getting one, and it’s still mostly played for comedic purposes. Season 3 is when it starts to take her more seriously and we go through her episodes as normal (with a lot less of the narrative demanding that Marinette give her a chance or else.) Chloe is given the opportunity to change, shows that she’s even capable of it, but after she’s outed as Queen b and she doesn’t get what she wants anymore she flips. The arc of the season becomes ‘can Chloe really change?’ and the answer to that would be ‘no’ following the finale. I would have her go through real change in season 4 when she’s at her lowest and reintroduce Lila as a bigger threat.

There’s also the love square issue. Again, flip it. Season 3 acted like Marinette couldn’t even talk to Adrien without having a stroke and upped her jealousy when in season 2 she could spend whole days with him just fine (Gorizilla) and was willing to let Adrien be happy with Kagami (Frozer). So what I would have done is just put episodes like Animaestro and Oni-chan a little after Riposte (I’d also fix Kagami’s ever changing personalities but thats a whole other issue), then follow that up with Frozer, then Ikari Gozen, changing things when necessary to fit the narrative better. They’re good friends by the time season 2 ends and Marinette is willing to just be friends with Adrien. Her kiss to him after he gives his everyday Ladybug speech is her trying to let go and see him for the great friend he could be.

Then season 3 I would just make it a struggle for her to move on as she sees the growing relationship between Kagami and Adrien. Meanwhile, Luka is the support she’s constantly leaning on because he’s able mellow and intuitive enough to calm her down properly. then you have her juggling her mounting Ladybug duties; training form Fu I would have actually shown, the conflict of whether she should trust Chloe or not, them KNOWING that Hawkmoth is closing in on Fu, as well as her other responsibilities to her friends, school, and her parents. Season 2 she learned how to overcome hardships with a smile, and season 3 is when it becomes too difficult, thus leading to Love Eater.

Anyway, there are easy ways to improve a lot of flaws in the writing (not all of them, of course), and if they just changed events around it would have helped create a much more structured story with characters making decisions that make sense.

the kwami swap was the perfect chance to address the whole “chat sacrificing himsef because only LB can purify the akuma” thing,

If they wanted to make it so clear that Ladybug’s job is more important we should’ve at least seen Mister bug’s reaction to watching his partner get hit to save him

and after he saves the day and brings her back she’d go “that wasn’t so bad” and he’d be like GIMME THAT RING RIGHT NOW WE’RE NEVER DOING THAT AGAIN

one day marinette is gonna give out a miraculous and its not going to be to make up for a mistake

one day

maybe

alya is like the only exception i think, nino sorta

i want to like that kagami and marinette are friends now but they should have been from the beginning. and im just gonna always be rubbed wrong that every other episode is marinette doing something wrong, even if its an honest mistake. like i fucking get it show, shes flawed, but other characters are just as if not more so. people who dont really look to criticize the writing are just going to see that marinette is the only one (who’s a good guy) being presented as a flawed person and take that to mean shes a super jerk or something, i already see it in the spoiler tag, and thats shitty.

so okay marinette didnt understand kagami, but we’re just going to ignore that this whole thing started because adrien caused a misunderstanding? you can also expect that marinette thinks kagamis cold to begin with because of how she acted around her in frozer. idk if there was a mutual recognition that they were both wrong about the other but thats what it needed, it shouldnt have just come from marinette, but if it DID, thats just par for the course i guess. if chloe couldnt have been made to give marinette a break and see her as an actual human being yet while marinette is constantly forced to take chloes feelings into consideration, this is hardly surprising

Nino I’d say is grouped up with having a miraculous to make up for a mistake since Anansi happened due to Marinette helping him cheat in the arm wrestling match, which made him insecure about not proving his strength, hence trying to rescue Alya as a civilian and telling Marinette that he doesn’t need her “help.”

So yeah Alya is the only one thus far to get a miraculous from Marinette that’s not making up for a mistake. Actually weirdly enough, her hero debut is the one episode where Marinette isn’t forced to learn a lesson, she’s actually the one teaching it to Alya (that heroes have to keep secret identities). And Alya takes the lesson to heart and all Marinette had to do is trust in the integrity of her character to give her a miraculous, as in exactly the right kind of reason one should receive a miraculous in the first place: being a genuinely good person and not just having good reflexes or because they’re convenient, or giving the person what they want to make up for a mistake to justify why they should have it (nor should granting them a miraculous be considered “necessary” for Marinette to make amends), but having the characters be the ones who to need to prove themselves to her. It’d be nice if they could pick up on that format more often.

But yeah this plot would’ve worked better if the misunderstanding was made out to be more mutual between Marinette and Kagami. And it is even if it wasn’t acknowledged in the episode.

And as cool as new heroes are, the problem with the set up of Marinette Misjudges/Makes a Mistake => “Apologizes” by given out a Miraculous, is that no one gets to really earn their place and it robs them an opportunity to shine or grow. Because even though Kagami is obviously a good fighter, she’s never someone I would consider particularly Heroic.

When she doesn’t care about something, she’s brisk and insensitive. She is selectively unforgiving. She hyper-fixates on the things she does care about and is unreceptive to outside distractions. Aside from Adrien, has she shown a kind hand to anyone? When the leak came out about Kagami getting the Dragon, my first thought was “why her?”

A Hero protects everyone. A Hero sacrifices themselves for the greater good. A Hero is selfless. Kagami would make an amazing fighter, but she’s not a hero.

Thing is that Marinette already admires Kagami despite not being her friend - this makes at least two episodes where Marinette’s had a “Oh no, she’s hot” moment - so Kagami doesn’t have to work near as hard as she thinks she does to win Marinette over. Meanwhile, Kagami’s opinion of Marinette began at rock bottom and has only gotten worse over time. It’s completely unfair that Marinette needs to prove herself to Kagami when Kagami only needed to be herself to at least impress Marinette, even in a “Oh God she’s so perfect that Adrien will INEVITABLY fall for her if I leave them alone” way, despite getting massive side eye from Kagami literally every time they see each other.

Seriously, why would Marinette think Kagami was actually trying to be her friend?

This episode could’ve easily salvaged this! There didn’t need to be this imbalance! They didn’t need to have Marinette be the one with the problem. The girls personalities clash and they have different approaches and morals. They’re not going to be a dream team the instant they’re paired up. So have that be the conflict - they want to power through the contest (they want to be with Adrien and NOT each other thank you very much) but they each want to do it their way.

So show the girls doing tasks their own way - and they work. Kagami stays on task for the physical challenges so they are more efficient (Marinette can get distracted by outside influence or her own anxiety). Marinette smooths over the bonding challenges, easing Kagami into more a more natural way to express herself. Or even the opposite! Maybe Marinette wants to take photos a certain way (smile wider, look this way, the lightings off, etc) to sell the friend angle but Kagami insists on one-and-done photos and she’s right! The contest only cares about being requirements of the challenge, not imaginary ones that Marinette’s created with her perfectionism. And then in the fishing challenge, Marinette sees someone else struggling and offers to help them against Kagami’s protests, but then Marinette and the other person work together and get the challenge done even quicker by relying on each other.

Force both girls to see each other differently. Force both girls to admire the other girl’s approach. Soften them up to each other by just having them work together.

And then you can have Kagami implement the best of both worlds to be a good hero or something, idk.

After a day I’m confident enough to say that what Marinette did with Adrien’s ‘statue’, while weird, is like… like it’s weird. I know that. But people are acting like she knew it was Adrien and invaded his space anyway even though she never did that (knock on fucking wood, this show ruins everything I like about it at some point). Like yeah it’s weird she kissed a statue that looked like him but at the end of the day that’s all it is: weird. Girl, you weird. Your’e very passionate and weird about it. But for real like again she did not actually think this was Adrien. She just saw an outlet for her feelings and took it lol. UnFORtunately the writers were like ‘hey… know what would be funny as fuck?’ and did THAT to this 14 year old girl who did nothing more than like…it was like making out with a pillow only she had something that looked like the real thing. Weird? Yeah, but she’s 14 and passionate.

my point is im tired of hearing about how ‘unhealthy’ it was. whats unhealthy is that tikki keeps telling her to keep pursing him despite the pain it’s causing her. doing a little make believe wasnt really doing any harm, it was just really bad luck (again WHY AINT SHE THE BLACK CAT) that it was actually adrien

Okay so, Party Crasher. Like so much happened in that episode, so much that didn’t need to happen. I swear there are certain episodes that scream that 4 people wrote this and not one of those people consulted another on what they were writing.

Why was the boys only party necessary? And I don’t mean that in an ignorant way, because I understand the need for girl and guy time, I’m not an idiot. But Wayhem was the person akumatized, not one of the girls the guys ditched purposefully. The only reason Wayhem got akumatized in the first place was because Adrien wasn’t able to answer his phone and let him in, it had nothing to do with the party being only for boys. Obviously. Since he is a boy.

There was just half an episode’s worth of set up with this ‘boys only, don’t tell the girls!’ conflict, and nothing about it pays off in the end because it rapidly shifts focus back to Wayhem feeling left out at the last second. These two things have nothing to do with each other at all, so I’m just left wondering why these two different plots weren’t split into two episodes, especially since there was virtually no resolution for what Nino did. He apologized to Marinette and they made it about doing a good thing for Adrien, but the rest of the poor girls are still stuck planting trees, none the wiser to what happened.

What a missed opportunity though. How did they not do a boys vs. girls thing here where ALL the girls, not just Marinette, came to crash the party. One of them gets akumatized (probably Mylene or Alya), brainwashes the other girls, they all turn against the boys for lying and its a big fun battle, one which ends in the boys all apologizing for ditching them at the last second. I just don’t see why we bothered with Wayhem, a total non character, at all. This show has such a bad habit of putting weird prioritization on one off-characters (two-off in his case I guess) instead of really developing the ones they already made us invest in. And why? Because he’s Adrien’s friend, he needs this level of focus? Why not give it to any of the other people in his class, actual friends of his since the beginning of the show?

Oh, and speaking of characters they should have spent more time investing in; Kim! Like, I had no idea that, because of all the complaints with the lack of order in episodes, this was actually his debut episode as a hero. And I would have never thought it was either because they spent no time building up to that at all. Why not have him be the orchestrator of this all boys party and have him learn something from the conflicts it causes, and makes up for it by being the key component in the fight? I’m just forever confused by the way these writers set up conflicts, multiple conflicts that aren’t necessary, but then have solutions that have nothing to do with anything. It would be so easy to write this premise of the episode properly but they just don’t do that, they throw so much in and decide ‘yeah that’s fine’. Sometimes they want to be super emotional and invested in what they write (pretty much anything involving the Agrestes or Chloe) but other times it’s like they pic random plot points and solutions out of a hat and just run with it even if it doesn’t fit.

And cue all the people who are like ‘stefanie calm dooooown it’s just a kids show,’ but I have never seen a kids show that tries to pack so much unrelated premises into a single episode, it would be to their benefit to actually treat this like a kids show and pear down all the unnecessary fat from a lot of their plot lines to make it more focused. Also did anyone understand Kim’s power, like at all??

I have more to say about Adrien ( I actually liked how he was written for once), Marinette, and Fu (this fucking unqualified mess of an adult lol), also how the girls and boys were treated in general, but that’ll be a second post cuz idk how long it’s gonna be.

Oblivo was actually good?! (except the reset, but whatever.) It also tells us that whatever akuma effect hits LB and Chat, can effect the kwamis as well! It means we missed out on Plagg getting to finally rant over how frusterating the whole secret identities thing is though. What was your favourite part? I loved the moment when Adrien got to do the LB style coming up with an idea thing.

I loved when Marinette did the LB style Coming Up with a Plan thing! XD

Marinette the whole way really shined, but I think my favorite was that gif I reblogged - the adorable way they introduced themselves despite being in a really scary dangerous situation. Even when they hit rock bottom they have fun together. I want more of this the rest of the season please!

Anonymous asked:

hi, im very confused as to what's happening in the fandom rn, can you give me a run down?

Well *deep breath*

First, Disney Spain announced that Season 3 was premiering on December 1 with a new episode called Chameleon

Then Disney Spain released a trailer to confirm they actually had the footage. It revealed that Chameleon was going to be Lila’s third akumatization and that she’s back at school.

Today, a sneak peak 5 or so minutes of the episode was released. It’s not completely translated from Spanish, but enough was translated in gifs and the remaining lines are well gesticulated so what happens is:

-Marinette arrives late to find that half the class is in new seats. Alya is sitting next to Nino and there’s an empty seat by Adrien. At first Marinette assumes Alya saved her a seat next to Adrien (she goes into a rant about how she’s so lucky but then her imagination makes her think she’ll fail school because she’ll be so distracted by Adrien and then they’ll never get married or have their three kids and their hamster–)

-Alya interrupts to say she didn’t save that seat, that seat’s for Lila because APPARENTLY she can’t hear very well so seats were rearranged and now she and Nino are sharing a seat so they can spend time together

-Oh and Marinette is going to sit in the back alone by herself far away from her friends.

-Lila comes in and Marinette dryly comments “Oh? Can’t hear Lila?”

-Lila lies (duh) that she has constant ringing in her ear (thanks to saving Jagged Stone’s kitten on an airport runway *barf)

-Marinette points out Jagged has a crocodile not a kitten

-Lila says he used to have a kitten until he found out he was allergic. But it’s so great she’s sitting next to Good Student Adrien since she’ll need help catching up with all the work she’s missed *flutters eyelashes*

-Untranslated, Marinette makes an appeal to the teacher. The teacher says something, idk what, but it makes Marinette flustered and backtracks.

-Adrien stands up, says something about friends, and ‘unimportant’ but his hand movements suggest he’s giving up his seat so Marinette and Lila can sit together in the front row. Both girls vocally oppose that with a ‘NO!’

-Lila, head down, woe is me, gives a little speech about causing problems and how maybe Marinette’s right and she isn’t wanted (even though Marinette never said that?) then she suggests she move to the back.

-Entire class glares at Marinette. The fandom is betrayed. WTF class.

-Marinette, stutters a bit (probably something to the effect of ‘I didn’t mean anything like that’) and eventually bows to the pressure of ALL HER FRIENDS GLARING AT HER to sit by herself in the back row

-Then she has to watch Lila shamelessly rub all over Adrien while her best friend is giggling with her boyfriend behind them, because Alya was the Worst in this clip.

-Hawkmoth does his dumb speech and releases an akuma HEADED STRAIGHT FOR MARINETTE!

-Marinette grits her teeth as Lila flirts some more (seriously Adrien just tell a girl you’re not comfortable for once) and the akuma flies DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO MARINETTE

-Bustier claps her hands to start class. Marinette does a little breathing exercise to calm down. The akuma failed. End clip (well there’s like a half second of her and Alya and Nino in line for food but unimportant)

So the fandom is up in arms about how the class, who just previously was ranting about how they loved Marinette and she was their everyday Ladybug, has decided that New Girl Lila is a poor wounded animal and Marinette is a horrible bully who needs to sit in the back alone! And of course pissed over how Alya totally abandoned her friend for a new girl and to sit with her boyfriend.
