After a day I’m confident enough to say that what Marinette did with Adrien’s ‘statue’, while weird, is like… like it’s weird. I know that. But people are acting like she knew it was Adrien and invaded his space anyway even though she never did that (knock on fucking wood, this show ruins everything I like about it at some point). Like yeah it’s weird she kissed a statue that looked like him but at the end of the day that’s all it is: weird. Girl, you weird. Your’e very passionate and weird about it. But for real like again she did not actually think this was Adrien. She just saw an outlet for her feelings and took it lol. UnFORtunately the writers were like ‘hey… know what would be funny as fuck?’ and did THAT to this 14 year old girl who did nothing more than like…it was like making out with a pillow only she had something that looked like the real thing. Weird? Yeah, but she’s 14 and passionate.

my point is im tired of hearing about how ‘unhealthy’ it was. whats unhealthy is that tikki keeps telling her to keep pursing him despite the pain it’s causing her. doing a little make believe wasnt really doing any harm, it was just really bad luck (again WHY AINT SHE THE BLACK CAT) that it was actually adrien

I also need to point out we now have seen both heroes get cataclysmed, or at least their fake forms.

Seriously, people are talking about the scent thing but why is nobody talking about Adrien cataclysming wax!Ladybug without hesistation then running through the ashes that hadn’t even settled to get to Ladybug? Sure it wasn’t the real deal but killing/destroying someone that looked like my love, partner, and best friend you’d think would be just a little more upsetting. Just saying you think he’d just push her away not dust her in a heartbeat.

Well, you shouldn’t have asked:

“Is everything fine? Is Adrien’s hand still in the mould?” Questioned a panicked Theo as he raced up to Marinette who had only just escaped Adrien’s query before embarrassing herself.

“Yes. Everything perfect. Adrien is perfect. No. Sorry. Adrien’s hand is still in the mould,” Marinette replied trying to unscramble her brain. She had nearly confessed to Adrien. She had told him they weren’t good friends. How was she supposed to comeback from that? An actual confession, despite all of Alya’s pushing, she just wasn’t ready for. The last thing she wanted is Adrien to be hurt and to lose him as a friend. “I just needed to get some air.”

“Love troubles?” Theo smirked, shoulders now relaxed and the fright from before gone.

“That obvious?”

“As a sculptor I researched Adrien to make sure the pose chosen would be suitable and to find reference points. You being a constant in his life, the pictures-”

“Please don’t remind me,” Marinette groaned. Her face was burning with embarrassment as she looked away.

Okay, so I guess if I had to SOMEHOW try and fix the scene. I would say two ways.

First:

I would have Adrien reveal himself earlier.

Like right before Marinette commented on the smell.

Have Adrien smile and thank her for the compliment.

Marinette would be flustered and then have Adrien ask Marinette about what Nino told him earlier. That way there is a communication and without a cringe scene so we get some FUCKING ADRINETTE DEVELOPMENT.

or we go the opposite route.

Adrien never breaks character. He is completely aware of everything and lets it happen. no jump back, he lets Marinette kiss him. Just praying she doesn’t figure it out.

Marinette would stop after realizing she is kissing a statue and people might come in, so she gives a quick peck on the statue. Saying something along the lines of a joke that would be like ‘At least the statue knows how I feel’ and leaves.

Plagg finding the whole thing hilarious and Adrien now knows, but has no idea what to do. At least he understands that Nino wasn’t saying she hated him.

Of course when Marinette sees the statue is ‘Finished’ she notices the pose is different. But she chalks it up to imagination.

Adrien however now has to mentally deal with all of this. He can’t just turn her down because she technically never confessed to him, that would be such an a$$hole move, plus it would ruin their friendship. He would just need to pretend, that it never happened and deal with her feelings the day if she confesses. But I imagine, it would be very difficult for Adrien to get Marinette out of his head. Season 1 showed he wasn’t opposed to kissing her anyway, so this would actually help stir the dynamic in a direction where both sides ‘Ladynoir’ and ‘Adrinette’ have the love interest know what the other feels.

i understand that the “rejection” (if you can even call it that, since he doesn’t even seem to realize he did it?) was necessary

but what was unnecessary was the scene that unfolded in order for that conversation to happen. it could’ve been a lot simpler, with marinette simply confessing to “wax” adrien. she could toss in some of the compliments, sure, but draping herself all over him, caressing him, smelling him, and eventually trying to kiss him was crossing so many lines, it wasn’t funny anymore

the scene was nothing more than to make her the butt of the joke yet again, and it was so cringey and painful to watch; you didn’t have to understand french to feel that secondhand embarrassment. i’m glad that they’ve finally developed that tentative friendship at the end of the episode, but at what cost?

Alternatives to that scene:

Adrien plays statue, switching poses every time Marinette turns around. She catches on quickly, despite being flustered he is here and trying to figure out a response to his question, jokes back. “If only I could talk to Adrien. Tell him how kind and loved he is. If only he didn’t smell of camembert the whole time.”

Cue Adrien defending his honour, Plagg trying to escape Adrien’s pocket to fight Marinette, and Marinette happy to have a conversation

Adrien successfully spooking Marinette. Being clumsy she trips, he tries to catch her. They are now on the floor, Marinette blushing, and Adrien trying to get up also blushing like an idiot. Also because Adrien likes anime and I love my cliches, accidental kiss trope. Now there are two flustered idiots trying to deal with what happened.

For a little extra fun, Adrien trying on clothes from the wax figures and trying to replace them to see how long it would take him to be caught by Marinette. She notices, sneaks out of his sight and puts on Jagged’s outfit then spooks him. They laugh together before Adrien asks again why she doesn’t like him.
