I can’t draw swords

Kagami asks to meet with Alya and the rest of Marinette's friend group without her present. They think it's sketchy but go along with it. Turns out Kagami feels bad about indirectly hurting Marinette by pursuing a relationship with Adrien and she wants the girls' help in setting Marinette up with someone else so she can move on effetive immediately. Someone that comes close to being as perfect as Adrien; expecting to find someone equal or better is impossible, of course.

The girls kindly ask Kagami to step out for a moment and lose their composure the moment she's out of sight because jfc this girl is really clueless. After calming down and a short discussion, they proceed to calmly explain to Kagami that dating someone else won't fix a broken heart, that people only get hurt in rebound relationships, and that it takes time. They don't know why, but their insistence that that's how it works makes her usually unreadable face seem a little distressed.

The Four Loves of Adrien Agreste, or how not to pigeonhole all the girls into obsessive stalkers

Yeah Marinette, Lila, Kagami, and Chloé are different characters with different personalities, but their core reactions to Adrien as a person all fall in under the same umbrella of being possessive and creepy towards him. So here’s how to fix that.

Namely, don’t make them possessive and creepy!

I’m kidding, but seriously if Adrien has to have a harem he should really get more diversity in character. Anyone who’s played an otome game knows that.

So you have Marinette, the everygirl, the sweet friend with a heart of gold and a bit of a snarky streak, who’s willing to stand up for what is right. She ultimately respects Adrien’s wishes and is willing to let him go if he doesn’t return her affections. She has enough faith in Adrien that he’ll know what he wants.

Then there’s Chloé, the childhood friend, who’s known Adrien the longest and knows him best. She’s got inside jokes with Adrien and overall is the one he’s most physically and emotionally comfortable with because they’ve just known each other for so long. She’s got a mean streak but she’ll usually tone it down for Adrien’s sake, but she’s also the first person to tell Adrien to wise up.

Now, Lila is a bit of a mess. I’m gonna go with two interpretations here, one canon and one not. The canon interpretation is that… Adrien doesn’t expose Lila. He could have, and everyone would believe him, but he doesn’t and for that Lila is really fixated on him. She breaks the rules for her own wishes and she pushes Adrien to be less righteous and rule-abiding, but unlike Chloé, is not above throwing Adrien under the bus if she finds something shinier.

The not canon compliant interpretation is that she’s exposed after Volpina and Adrien is the one who stands by her despite everything, so she fixates on him because he forgives her. She really tries to become worthy of his faith in her, but still has a loose moral code on par with Chloé.

Kagami is brutally honest and blunt, but like Adrien, she’s lonely from the pressure of her parent and growing up under a spotlight. Where Chloe is actively willing to pick a fight, Kagami won’t retaliate unless threatened first. And where Marinette would be gentle, Kagami doesn’t sugarcoat anything. Adrien falls for her first instead of the other way around, but they bond in their isolation and love of fencing. Birds of a feather and all.

Ultimately they all share the same trait of being girls who can kick your ass verbally or otherwise, but they’re not just the same variety of “Adrien is mine and no one else is worthy of him”.

I mean. In the end the whole situation is still absolutely shit and I hate it, but if Adrien needs to have this dumbass harem fighting over him, at least they should be different besides Cute Stalker Fangirl #1, 2, 3, and 4.

sALT DRABBLE

Marinette worked up the courage to legitimately confess to Adrien with that letter in Backwarder but it was used as a constipation joke to embarass her. There’s no “Marinette needs to stop hesitating and go for him or he’ll get taken away!” She DID. And she was humilated for it. What I’m gathering from this is fate is telling her to not be with Adrien??? That’s what I’m getting out all her various attempts at hanging out with him/getting closer to him. Scarf? Credit taken by someone else. Ice cream? He didn’t come. Adrien himself? Interested in another girl who he asked HER to set him up with.

Kagami accidentally confesses her love-> Adrien coddles her with affection (even ignoring LB). Maybe Marinette could’ve gotten a similar reaction if she was successful. But no. CLUMSY OLE’ MARINETTE YA KNOE? She took Kagami’s “advice” in Frozer. And this is what she gets. The difference between her and Kagami at this point is LUCK.

Kagami has it so easy (facts, not hate). She’s rich like him so she gets to hang out with him outside of school, go on trips with him, fence together with him, etc. All of these without interference from any other girl. Hell, both their families probably ship them at this point. Marinette almost never has the chance to hang out with him/get to know him unless she goes out of her way or they happen to be in a unique situation with one another (like in Gorizilla- bless this episode). She also gets the most animosity from the girls around him. And unlike LB and Chat Noir, she doesn’t hold any sort of special position in his heart. She’s just one of the many friends he has at school. The cards are dauntingly stacked against her.

What I’m trying to say is dAMN 50+ EPISODES IN AND WE’RE HERE???? I’D ARGUE WE’RE KIND OF IN A WORSE PLACE THAN SEASON 1…
