It has been ten years since I first saw Tangled and I still go weak every time Eugene does that thing after he comes back where he tightens around Rapunzel and tucks his face into the crook of her neck for just a moment. I’m ksjlkdjfskldjf

I had the honor of getting to do an end credits image for @kenmarlenn‘s Tangled “Breakaway” PMV! (Which you can watch, in full, right here: x )

The assignment was “draw a post series headcanon that you have,” and I immediately knew that I wanted to draw Cass’s return to Corona (which, thankfully, nobody else had taken yet.) I don’t think I’ve done a full-color piece with this many characters in it for awhile, so it was definitely a challenge. But, a rewarding one, for sure!

IF YOU STILL HAVEN’T SEEN THE FULL PMV YET, YOU SHOULD ABSOLUTELY DO SO ASAP!!! Everybody did SUCH an amazing job, I promise you will not be disappointed. So go watch it!!!!

(Additional note: the two New Dream kids also have their own personalities and story, and you should definitely expect more content of them - plus some other 2nd gen TTS characters - in the near future!)

So… when I went looking for screenshort of Cap in his Island outfit I ended up rewatching ‘Islands Apart.’ I love that episode, but it got me thinking. Why is nothing done with the Captain and Eugene in it?

The next time we see the Captain it’s him passing on the Captaincy to Eugene. Now on the one hand, I think this is really great character growth on both sides, but it’s also… kind of unsatisfying. It doesn’t feel like a very solid conclusion for Captain’s growth as a character, or their relationship. Like on paper, it’s great, but something is missing in the execution of this arc. And I think it could’ve been fixed by just giving these two a bit of spotlight beforehand in Season 3 - give them each a chance to see how the other has grown and changed. And you could get that easily.

And all you have to do, is switch Eugene and Rapunzel in 'Islands Apart.’

This just makes more sense, and thinking about it, I’m just baffled that no one pointed out that this was the stronger, more interesting way to have this episode play out. You don’t even have to change all that much. And it got me so fired up that I went ahead and redrew all the key scenes with Eugene in them just to make my point (really, what else was I gonna do?)

I love when Rapunzel brushes Eugene’s hair out of his eyes. I think it is one of the most tender gestures either of them makes.

She makes the audience understand how badly hurt Eugene is, and they can feel her anxiety. Somehow, to me, this simple touch shows that she loves him, and it makes her promise to give up her freedom for him so much more believeable. Sure, she could say that she’d do anything for him, but when she does this, you can see that she would do anything to heal him.

#2 It has triple the meaning when you consider that up to this point he’d been the one to take the hair out of her eyes!!!!!
