Do u like the theory that branch is a pop rock troll? The song he was singing in the flashback of the 1st movie is pop rock. Plus, he’s more grayscale than the other pop trolls.
The thought also occurred to me while watching, cause, yeah, he is more grey and toned down than most others, even in World Tour where he let his true color shows, he still looks toned down. And there are other factors that stood out to me on the possibility.
He just doesn’t fully fit in with other pop trolls despite being happier. Like, he doesn’t dance on cue when a song is mentioned, like when King Peppy mentioned hammer time and everyone breaks loose. He’s far more aware and conscious of the world, slow to trust or doesn’t easily click in making connections (just like Barb thinks it takes a lot of time to make friends), literally prepared to live on the edge. Only pop troll shown to not be put off by Debbie the bat, and even knew how to calm her down.
There’s the detail we didn’t see his parents, only his grandmother.
And each tribe has a loose association with an element.
- - Pop is tied to Wood (new beginnings, possibilities, flexible, open minded, making connections; flaws of overgrowing, can tower too tall, be constricting and a tad controlling).
- - Techno to Water (fluidity, mystery, flexible, intuition, emotion driven; flaws of being too evasive and elusive, secretive)
- - Classic to Air (imagination, expression, exploration, levity, harmonious; distant, can be considered cold, head in the clouds, not grounded at all, can be happy in their own world).
- - Funk with Aether/Void (spirituality, creativity, source of inner thoughts and self; no true flaws associated with this element since its a core of who you are; at least can add onto Funk being wise, patient, and open with other Trolls).
- - Rock with Magma, mixing up Fire and Earth (mixing these two makes these trolls passionate, driven, immobile, certain in their course of action, able to be both beacons and the ground to support others; flaws of stubbornness, can burn just as easily as they can warm, can be too set in their ways or mindset).
With this in mind, I can note that, instead of choosing the tallest tree and settling in the highest point to build his base where it’d be a struggle to reach him, he chose the earth. Potentially drawn to it.
And like Barb, struggles to make connections, friendship doesn’t come easily, and I can see him sharing a similar mindset to her that it takes time. There’s also having few true friends, while he gets along with others, Poppy is the only one shown to be some he seeks to hang out with constantly, just as Barb really reaches out to Carol. Also a secret softie that he’s not shy about showing once devoted.
So with a bit of these, yeah I can see potentially being a mix. Only thing that throws a wrench is each tribe living in isolation, and Pop for a long time was held captive. But Rock and Funk for sure were aware of other tribes, and as far as we know, maybe there’s an unknown story of Peppy reaching out for help or an exploring Rock came across the Pop and tried to help, fell in love.
Maybe that’ll be a topic for a 3rd movie or an ep in The Beat Goes On cartoon. I’d look forward to seeing it if so.
I always thought that Branch and his grandma always lived on the outskirts of town, cuz the pop trolls are so close knit. Why wouldn’t the king and princess hear how a Bergen ate one of their own?
