Ducky? Hi. Can I get an emergency request please? Im having such an awful episode of sensory overload and EVERYTHING bothers me when this happens. could I please have Atsumu, Iwaizumi and Tendou helping an s/o with this problem?
Of course my love.
Thank you for reaching out to me!
These may not be the “typical” causes of sensory overload episodes. But personally, mine are spontaneous, so I don’t get much time or triggers for them to happen.
Nonetheless, I hope these help!!!
CW BELOW THE CUT: Sensory overload episode, minor injury in Tendou’s
𝐴𝑡𝑠𝑢𝑚𝑢 𝑀𝑖𝑦𝑎
- It started in one faithful car ride to a friends’ party
- You decided to handle the 10 minute drive, and Atsumu was seated happily in the front seat.
- A few short moments passed, and then it all went south.
- Suddenly, you were hyper-aware of everything.
- The way your outfit touched every inch of your skin
- The rattling of the can of sparkling water that your boyfriend had brought into the car.
- The, now pungent, smell of the dish you and Atsumu had prepared for the party.
- You breathed in and out, hoping to shake the feeling.
- It wasn’t happening.
- When you stopped at a red light, a car with booming bass music pulled up next to you.
- The man driving cocked an eyebrow and a cheeky smile at you as he turned it up.
- You immediately cringed, squeezing your eyes shut and shaking in your seat.
- “(Y/N)? The light’s green. H-“
- Atsumu’s eyebrows furrowed when he saw you vibrating in your seat, even after the other driver had left.
- “(Y/N)? Love what’s wrong? Talk to me.”
- That’s the thing. You can’t.
- The sound of your voice is too loud, and the buzz in your chest makes you feel sick.
- Your eyes opened hastily as the car behind you gently beeped their horn to alert you of the changed color.
- You hesitantly hit the gas, instantly regretting the decision.
- The rumble of the RPM increasing as you speed up was enough to put you over the edge.
- “ ‘Tsumu y-you gotta drive.” You managed to whisper.
- “What?”
- “Atsumu please. You have to drive.” You managed to say a little louder, a subsequent whimper following.
- “Alright sweetheart, pull into that parking lot.”
- You obliged to his command and were soon able to force yourself into the passenger seat of your car.
- “Okay love, you just take your time. Do you want to listen to any music or-“
- “No! Please.”
- His eyes widened at the sudden outburst.
- You cringed at the sound of your voice, “I mean, no thank you. Sorry.”
- He turned to face the road with the most defeated look on his face.
- Well now you felt like shit.
- “I’m sorry ‘Tsumu. I’m overloaded.”
- Atsumu understood completely and immediately turned down the air conditioning, pressed the compartment on the roof to offer you his sunglasses, and picked up his sparkling water can.
- “Anything else unsettling for you right now?” His voice was much gentler than before.
- You shook your head no, closing your eyes and relaxing into your seat.
- As you began to decompress, you only had one request.
- “I can’t do music yet… but the silence is worse. Could you just hum for me?”
- Atsumu smiled so sympathetically and began to hum the tune to yours and his favorite song.
- You closed your eyes and sighed in contentment.
- By the time you had reached the destination of the party, you were much calmer.
- “Sweetheart… I just realized.” Atsumu chimed gently, “A party is only gonna make this worse , isn’t it?”
- Shit, you didn’t think about that.
- As you pursed your lips, thinking of some way to stay calm, unbeknownst to you, Atsumu disappeared with the dish you and him had prepared.
- He returned without the food, smiling at you.
- “Let’s go home. I told them you weren’t feeling well and gave them to our food.” Atsumu’s chiming voice entered your ears.
- And soon enough, you two were back in the car. This time, bopping along to your favorite songs.

- When Iwa texted you to ask to come over, all systems were a-go.
- Nothing really seemed to be out of the ordinary.
- Until it was.
- As you lounged on the couch, the whirr of a jackhammer completely filled your ears.
- Damn construction crew outside your home.
- In a flash, you were hyper-aware of everything.
- The high pitched whine emitting from the TV, the blinding light from the fixture above you, the smell of the popcorn beneath you…
- “No no no. Not before Haji comes over!”
- Your stomach churned as your eyes began to water.
- Every sound you heard turned into a low hum as your eardrums vibrated.
- Your face heated up and you wanted to hide your face in a pillow, but the scratchy material only further upset you.
- While both high whines and low hums filled your ears, the rest of the sound around you was deafened.
- So you couldn’t even hear the gentle knock that was on the door.
- “(Y/N)? It’s me.”
- No response.
- That’s odd. You had just texted him five minutes ago.
- “Sweetheart I’m gonna use my key.”
- When the lock turned, and the same with the doorknob, Hajime’s eyes immediately fixated on your sobbing figure.
- “(Y/N)?!” Iwa was immediately at your side, hands coming to grab your own to deliver comfort.
- “MmmmmmH oFF OFF HAJI-”
- Hajime recoiled as his heart ached. What did he do?
- You gasped and sniffled as you realized what you had done. “Ah! ‘Ms-sorry! W-wait. D-don’t go. Please.”
- “Love, what’s going on?”
- “ ‘s too much, Haji.”
- “What is? What can I do?”
- “Turn the tv off… please.”
- Now he understood.
- Iwa hastily yet slowly turned off the tv, put your popcorn in a different place, and grabbed a soft blanket that you’d always enjoyed.
- “Is this okay?” He’d ask, placing the blanket by your side.
- “Mmm. Very.”
- “Tell me when you’re ready to be touched and I’ll put the blanket over you.”
- You nodded gently, letting your eyes flutter shut as you simply breathed in and out.
- Hajime never left you. He sat right behind you, dying from having to refrain from massaging your shoulders.
- Eventually, you leaned back between his legs and into his chest.
- In which he instantaneously covered you with the blanket and began to trace shapes on your shoulders with his fingertips.
- “How’re you feeling now?” He’d ask in a low mumble.
- “Much better, thank you Haji.”
- Hesitantly, you asked him to turn on the tv.
- So, he stood up from his place and manually turned the volume down to 1, just to ensure the noise wouldn’t blare when he would first click it on.
- There you sat, movie after movie, snuggled up under a blanket.
- As you sighed happily, snuggling into Iwa’s embrace, he was relieved that he had come when he did.

- As you waited for your boyfriend to come home from practice, you scoured through pages of a baking book.
- Your favorite playlist was playing quite loudly through your speaker, the lights were off but your LEDs were on, a harsh red to accompany the vibes you were feeling, your favorite candles were lit and the scent was heavenly.
- Nothing seemed to bother you whatsoever.
- As you gently skimmed the pages of the baking book, your finger catches quickly along the edges.
- When you recoil, a small slice appears across your pointer finger, tinging it red and causing just enough pain to be mildly discomforting.
- And like a lead anchor, your entire mood fell.
- The red lights were suddenly so, so hot. They were bright and menacing.
- The music you were playing seemed even louder than before. It was no longer a nice accompaniment; it was cacophonous.
- And oh how those candles now smelled sickly sweet. The prior smells of some kinds of flowers and fruits smelled synthetic and rancid.
- The apron you were wearing felt scratchy and heavy against your neck, as if it was almost digging into your skin
- Your mouth dried, your eyes watered and whimpers began to rip from your throat.
- “Nonono. Stop… please.”
- You were able to shakily raise a finger to pause your music.
- With that success, you manage to find your way to the living room.
- You sat in the center of the room, hugging your knees to your chest.
- “A-Alexa… call… m-my love.”
- “Calling My Love, mobile.”
- Silently thanking whatever deity was up there that you were able to at least call for help.
- “This is Tendou-San’s phone!” You recognized the voice, Goshiki.
- “G-go’. Need Ten-dou…”
- “Oh geez. (Y/N) are you okay??”
- “P-please Go’ !”
- The call muffled as Goshiki rushed to get your boyfriend’s attention. You couldn’t hear much of it, but you could make out “(Y/N), Tendou-San, Help, important.”
- “My love? What’s wrong?” Satori.
- “I-It’s happ-ening agai-n.”
- “Okay, Paradise, I want you to just close your eyes and breathe for me. I’m going to grab my things and leave right now.”
- “But y-you have-“
- “It doesn’t matter. The team knows you need help, and I’ve already been excused. I’m on my way to your house.”
- Within ten minutes, as promised, your boyfriend knocked hastily on the door.
- “Lovebug? It’s me.”
- “Come in…” you were able to get sentences out easier, but everything was still too much.
- The door opened ever so gently to reveal your distressed boyfriend. He slid his shoes off and was at your side in an instant.
- “What’s safe for you right now?”
- “Talking….” You swallow, “maybe touch?”
- Satori nods quickly in understanding as he slowly moves his hand to your knee.
- Your breath hitches and he recoils immediately.
- “No. It’s alright. Please...”
- Wordlessly, Tendou wraps you in his arms as if you were porcelain, and plants a gentle kiss to the nape of your neck.
- “You did great. I’m proud of you. Thank you for calling me.” He whispers
- And when your eyes fill with tears again, you figure that this time you’ll end up alright.
