Uraraka barely slept a wink last night. After Bakugo storms out her apartment, all she could think about is you. Everytime she'd close her eyes, the look of utter disbelief in the your face and the betrayal that has your heart breaking burns bright behind her closed lids. Uraraka wanted to come find you and grovel at your feet but she knows the last thing you want to see is the face of the woman who slept with her fiance.
She was haunched over the kitchen counter dreading to have some coffee but the list of food and drinks to avoid she was given was glaring right back at her, alongside the prescription of prenatal vitamins she was supposed to get. Uraraka was psyching herself up to get moving and go out to get them when her doorbell rang.
Who the heck would come see her this early in the morning??
To her surprise, as she peers on the security panel, she sees you. Uraraka pales and hurriedly dials Bakugo's number. She ignores the brash tone of his voice and says, "She's here. Y/n." as she walks to the door. Uraraka opens the door warily and you start mutter an apology when god knows if there's anyone here owed an apology, it was you.
"I'm sorry for just showing up like this." you murmur, trying to keep your eyes away from her yet to exist bump as she ushers you to the living room. Instead, you train your eyes on her face. God, she's so agonizingly beautiful. Warm brown eyes, cute button nose, small pink lips.. no wonder Bakugo was once crazy about her. Uraraka's beauty combined with Katsuki's would make one hell of a baby, you thought idly as you watch her shift uncomfortably on the couch, swallowing hard. You blinked, remembering why you came all this way. You wet your lips and cleared your throat, disrupting the awkward silence. "I just, I needed to talk to you again. Sorry for barging in."
"Y/n please, if there's anyone here who should be saying sorry, begging on her knees, it's me." Uraraka says, scooting on the couch she could reach for your hand, her voice shaking. You wanted to draw your hand back but as you look up at her, you saw sincerity. Honestly, you know you should be angry at her, have every right to be utterly livid, but you couldn't bring yourself to be. All you feel right now is pain and loss. And maybe that was masking everything else.
She starts apologizing again, profusely. Her voice getting thick as sobs rise in her chest. But that instict as a sworn physician kicks in and you couldn't help but speak out to stop her. "Hey," you say, taking a deep breath and forcing yourself to finish a coherent sentence with the impending sobs you yourself feel rise in your chest.
"Stop crying, it's bad for the baby." you gingerly placed a hand on top of hers. "I just came over because," you looked back up and met her gaze. "I wanted to tell you, personally, that I'm leaving."
Shock flashes across Uraraka's face and you continue before she could say anything. "I broke off the engagement with Bakugo that way he can take responsibility, for the both of you." You gave her a broken smile, the only one you could muster right now as you look her straight in the eyes. "So please take good care of yourself and the baby." you dropped your gaze, squeezing her hand. "And him." You tried so hard but failed to hold the soft whimper that escapes your lips.
Uraraka looks at you with a dumbstruck expression, her lips trembling as she tries to say something but the shock was making it difficult. She takes a deep breath and tries again, brows shooting up as she please. "Y/n, please. I don't even know if Bakugo wants the baby-" she sputters, shaking her head vigorously. "Please, don't leave him. I'll go! You won't hear from me, I swear-" You shush her as she falls into full blown rambling, desperate to change your mind. But right now, nothing could sway you from your decision.
"Ochako, listen to me," you put a hand on her cheek and you try to make her understand. "I can't tell you how many times Bakugo has faked not caring for having kids, for my sake, when I can see how his eyes just light up around children." Fat streaks of tears dampen your face as you confide about this for the first time in your life. "My heart breaks everytime he'd downplay his excitement when I get delayed or how hard he'd try to hide his disappointment when I get my period just to protect my feelings." Your lips quiver at the memories that suddenly floods you. No, you can no longer put him and yourself through that. "You should see him around Shou and Momo's kids. He's hilarious and gets so overprotective." a bittersweet laugh escapes you.
"I can't give that to him, Ochako. And you," you sigh brokenly, defeatedly. "You're carrying his baby. And I know Bakugo would love that kid with all his heart." Uraraka falls quiet and you notice her free hand gently ease down her belly to caress it.
"I'm letting him go so he can have a chance to have a family. With you. "
"But Bakugo doesn't want to be with me, he loves you." Uraraka mumbles. There it was again. She keeps telling you that Bakugo loves you like this would somehow lessen the pain you're feeling. If anything, it makes the situation hurt more. You nod to yourself and wiped your cheeks, saying, "I know he does." and eventually admit, "But I also know he still loves you too. Otherwise we wouldn't have ended up here."
Bakugo can deny as much as he wants, but you're not stupid. You feel it in your bones. He can keep telling you or himself that he loves you but there was a sliver of love there still remaining for Ochako, you can tell. Who the hell are you both kidding anyway? He wouldn't have slept with her if he didn't, drunk or not.
That glimmer of hesitation that flashes in his eyes when you asked him to tell you that he doesn't love her was like a clean drive of knife to your heart.
It was the way his eyes suddenly goes soft then hard, as if he's having a battle within his own mind when you asked him showed uncertainty. And there shouldn't be a damn battle. Not even a struggle, not a hair of doubt. Not when he's asked you to fucking marry him.
"Do you know how hard it is for me to do this? Let the only man I love be with someone else?" You ask. "I feel like my heart is physically being ripped out of my chest."
"I'm really sorry, Y/n." she says again for the hundredth time since you met her. But you're done hearing how sorry she is, all you need from her now is to promise you one thing.
You take a deep breath, hold both of her hands and say "Then promise me you'll love and take care of Katsuki. Make things work with him, if not for me then at least for your baby." Uraraka's tears spill from her eyes. Of course, she'd want that. But would Bakugo?
Your chin wobbles as you fought through the tears, urging yourself to continue. "Promise me you'll love him even when it gets hard or even when it's painful." you shudder as it dawns on to you that you're truly letting this woman have the only man you ever loved. It was getting harder to look at her but steel your nerves and met her gaze as you ask of her what you never thought you'd ask another person. "Do everything else that I would never be able to do for Katsuki. Please? "
"Y/n- I-" Uraraka's brown eyes reflect sincere regret in them but no, your mind is made up. This is the right thing to do, you tell yourself. "I'm leaving as soon as I settle things at the hospital. After that, you and Katsuki have the chance to start anew." you say, which reminds you that you still have places to be, things to do. You didn't wait for Uraraka's response and gathered yourself.
"I hope this is the last time we each other, Ochako." you say, touching her shoulder as you walk past her.
As you close Uraraka's apartment door behind you, you felt like you couldn't breathe again. All that's left now is to hand over your immediate resignation and refer all your patients to your colleagues then you're off to figure the rest all by yourself. Something you forgot what's like since Katsuki came on your life. You were absolutely head over heels for him and so every step you take, every plan, every dream you had included him; starts and ends with him.
So right now, you felt as if you have been blinded. Feels as if your scraped hands are out feeling for the surfaces in the dark as you try to find your footing again. It's hard, feels impossible even. But this is only way you can live with yourself. You have to let him go and let him have a chance at a life that you will never be able to give him.
You are taking your car key from your purse when you reach the parking lot a couple of blocks away from Uraraka's apartment, wiping your tears haphazardly as you walk past strangers when you hear an all too familar voice calling out.
Your eyes widened. How did he know you're here? Jiro would never tell on you.
Bakugo's lungs were on fire and his muscles are all strained and tensed from rushing to Uraraka's place but it was all worth it when he was able to caught up with you. When you looked over your shoulder, Bakugo saw how swollen your eyes are. God, you must have been crying all night. His legs move him to where you stood, afraid you might runaway from him again. You stagger as step back as he wraps his arms around you.
"I was so fuckin' scared, Y/n. I didn't know where to find you." he says breathlessly, his eyes tearing up as your scent and touch flood his senses. "I never should've fucking let you leave." he murmurs, burying his face in your hair, completely oblivious to the onlookers unlike you were. You try to get out of his embrace but he wouldn't let you. The more you try to push him off, the tighter his hold on you gets. "Bakugo, you're causing a scene." you say, eyes wildly shooting around you as people recognize the hero. "I don't care." he mutters, chest heaving as he held on tighter.
"Let go of me, please." you whisper. Bakugo knew you meant physically but a sob rises in his chest as he interprets it another way.
"No, I don't want to!" he protests, voice breaking. "Y/n, I'm fuckin' begging you, let's go home." The desperation in his voice so thick that you had to look away to give him a shred of dignity. You stop resisting, letting your hands fall at your sides but that made Bakugo become more frantic. He drops on his knees, arms going around your middle as he looks up at you. "Baby, please. Let's talk about this."
You hear cameras clicking and you saw the crowd that had gathered around like this is some sideshow for them to feast on. You grit your teeth and looked back down at him. God, they're going to tear his reputation apart. The media will take pleasure in destroying him once they figure out what happened. Your heart breaks all over again at the thought of leaving him to pick up the pieces after you leave. How you can still love him and still think of his well-being when you yourself are in the brink of your sanity, you'll never understand. But you've always done this since you promised to love him. And even though he had broken his which is to solely belong to you, you were not about to break yours.
You take a deep breath and with everything in you, you shove him. Utterly caught off guard, Bakugo falls on the concrete, eyes wide as he looks up at you. Your hands ball into fists at your sides as you put on a facade. You take a deep breath and harden your gaze as you jab a finger to his face.
"I don't want to talk you, don't you get it? I can't stand you anymore! That's the reason why I left, Bakugo!" you yell at him. "I deserve so much better than this."
Bakugo's face crumple as he crawls back to you, hands trembling as he holds on to your hips. "You do, baby. You do! Fuck, I'll do anything. Just, give me another chance, Y/n!" his voice becoming hoarse as he calls your name. "Come on, baby. Let's talk about this please! Come home."
He sees the hesitation in your eyes for a second but then you scoffed and turned your gaze away from him, blinking away the tears that had formed in your eyes. Bakugo didn't want to mean it but if it's the only way he can get you to spend another fucking minute with him, talk to him, then he'll say just about anything.
"Just this fucking once, just hear me out and I swear," he swallows the forming lump in his throat. "I swear won't bother you anymore." his voice breaks at the end, losing modulation as hopelessness overtook him. And it almost made you rethink what you're about to say.
"I didn't deserve being neglected or made feel like an option." you start to say. "I didn't deserve being ignored or left on read like some sidechick.." Now it just pours out of you like word vomit. "I didn't deserve being left to worry because you couldn't pick up your damn phone while you're off god knows where! I was your fiance, Katsuki!" you tried to hold back your sob, but it was becoming too much. "I deserve someone who won't keep me up at night worried sick because you couldn't spare a fucking second to at least let me know you're still alive! I deserve someone who will never let me second guess my place in their life."
Each thing you say was like a dagger in Bakugo's chest. He knows all his shortcomings but hearing it from you, see for himself how badly he's hurt you, made him realize how truly undeserving he is of you. You were right, you deserved someone better. You deserve someone who wouldn't hurt you like he had. But he loves you too much to lose you. Bakugo shakes his head and hugged you tight, sobbing aloud. He couldn't careless if there are people watching him or taking stupid pictures. If he had to humiliate himself to get you back, then so fucking be it.
"Y/n, please. Just give me another chance." he cries, his hold on you is so tight that its starts to hurt. Your jaw clenches as you tried so hard to hold your ground.
"I can't." you murmur, "I just," you swallowed hard, pried his hands off of you and steeled your nerves as you meet his gaze, saying,
"I don't love you anymore."
Bakugo's hands dropped at his sides as he stares at you in disbelief. It was like someone had pieced a hole through his chest. Your figure starts to blur as you walk away from him, tears impairing his sight.
You get on your car before he could fully recover. The car tire screeching as you drive out the lot, honking at the nosy onlookers that tried to take a photo of you. Your brows furrow as you stare at the rear view mirror. Bakugo hadn't moved from the ground, his head hung.
That look on his face told you he believed every word you said.
He once told you you couldn't lie to save your life..
"What in the fucking hell is this shit?"
Masaru hears his wife hiss from the living room as he was preparing dinner. When he walks over to her, Mitsuki turns up the volume of the television and they both watch the news in horror.
The anchorman was babbling about the very public break up of hero, Ground Zero and his fiance. Both Masaru and Mitsuki exchanged baffled glances as they see Katsuki, their son, photographed on his knees, crying out to you at a parking lot somewhere in the city.
