Although I do enjoy the design of the Light Fury and her being a Fury subspecies rather than another Night, I don’t think using her as the sparking point for the Dragons leaving (which is a whole other can of Fireworms in itself that I’ve already talked about) by causing Toothless to give into his animal instincts was a good idea.

The Dragons thus far, in both the previous movies and series, were shown to have intelligence on the brink of sapience. While they were known to adopt those instincts now and then, they were largely smart enough to ignore them when the time came. Hidden World came along and ramped up the “inner animal instincts” part to the point where Toothless lost a good amount of his prior character and all the other dragons like Meatlug, Hookfang or Stormfly were little more than regular beasts. Like, you’re seriously telling me that none of them would react to having to leave the Riders in the same way as Toothless and Hiccup?

“Weeh, Chai, it’s not weird that the Light Fury is aggressive and the other dragons aren’t something something wild animals!”

I hate that I even have to spell this out this late in the game, but the problem has never been that the Light Fury is aggressive and doesn’t like humans. No one cares if this one particular dragon will never love humans. It’s actually kind of neat that she doesn’t.

The problem is…

1) That the Light Fury’s bad experience with humans is used as justification for literally everything she does, including becoming angry and disgusted at Toothless reminiscing over Hiccup.

2) That the Light Fury’s bad experience is treated as the only one that matters – not the other dragons’, not Toothless’s, not what they did with their trauma.

3) The fact that Toothless doesn’t care that this strange dragon he’s known all of 20 seconds attempts to murder Hiccup not once, but twice.

4) That the sheer burning hostility of the LF and the Hidden World dragons is something Toothless not only adopts in the end, but every last dragon living on the surface is forced to join them as well, and they had no say in this and this is held up as correct and good and right (and also something I guess they’ll just magically stop doing on the day humans magically purge all our flaws.)

I always hate the argument “She was traumatized!”

Like somehow, Toothless, Meatlug, Hookfang and Barf and Belch didn’t have it worse.

Besides the fact that the 6 of them had been fighting humans for who knows how long, Toothless ends up being mutilated and forced to be a downed dragon for who knows how long; the other 5 are forced to be locked for weeks, and 4 of them forced to what they probably thought, was fighting for their lives.

In the first movie Astrid literally hits Stormfly hard enough that she ends up being disoriented; and yet they become dragon and rider.

“But thanks to the forced contact they became more domesticated!”

Let’s ignore the fact that the 5 dragons, after what had happened to them, should had drop the humans out of their backs and fly away (by THW logics) because they had been largely mistreated.

If you recall correctly, at the end of the first movie there is dragons (who weren’t those 6 we talk about here) who are living in Berk and look complacent enough (I mean they don’t cause trouble for what we see, have fish for them, etc)

For what we know, this dragons not had only been wild, the human interaction they had was being on war with humans, for years.

How exactly ANY of what happens to LF, is worst than this?

And Toothless not doing anything about the fact she tried to kill Hiccup twice doesn’t help.

“But he knew she was traumatized for humans and that it was just a natural response!”

HOOKFANG was also trapped and traumatized by captivity, scared by humans and actually attacked. The Bewilderbeast was just obeying orders after being conditioned for it on a lifetime.

LF has less of an excuse, but hey she is a pretty lady so she can get away with it!

Ugh, I love LF, she is one of my favorite characters, but it doesn’t mean her story isn’t flawed as fuck and she should be giving a pass for all the bullshit.

Can we appreciate how this short definitely made a clear link between Zephyr and the blue-eyed Night Light with this one shot? (Yes this is a genuine shot; they show them both in a split screen)

I love how the short showed the blue-eyed baby being the leader of the siblings; it was the blue-eyed Night Light who came up with the plan to go to Berk and who led the charge. The blue-eyed one definitely seemed to be slightly more mature. It’s a fantastic parallel to Zephyr (presumably) being her father’s heir, and we see her taking an active part in trying to keep her family safe when she makes her dragon traps, and she even makes sure to shield her brother when things go wrong at the paegent. Both of them are perceptive and were the first to notice the fire on-stage, that something wasn’t right. I wonder if this means that the blue-eyed Night Light will take over after Toothless, given the parallels.

I think it’s definitely not a coincidence that Zephyr sort-of has Hiccup’s hair (technically she has Stoick’s but still) and Astrid’s eyes, whilst the blue-eyed Night Light is mostly black like Toothless and has blue eyes like the Light Fury. Someone else already pointed out months ago about Nuffink having his mother’s blonde hair and father’s green eyes - similarly, the white Night Light is obviously primarily white like the Light Fury and green-eyed like Toothless.

I have to wonder if Dean really WAS dropping a clue with the third Night Light - mostly black scales and green eyes like Toothless. Perhaps it’s a little Easter Egg pointing to a third Haddock child in the future - one with their father’s hair and eyes? Perhaps it’s nothing but a fan theory, and we will probably never know.

Either way, I absolutely LOVE this parallel so much!
