gale seizing in the stalag then getting pneumonia afterwards from inhaling bile. for your consideration
oh i love when my moots let me make him worse. lets go.
maybe one of his seizures is especially bad. by now people know to kind of let him be, stand by to make sure he doesn't die but also know to keep their hands off him. this time it isn't just spit leaking from his mouth, but bile- frothy and chunky and tainted with acid and blood from cuts in his mouth. when gale stops seizing he's coughing, he's inhaled some of it and he can't breathe, hands going to his throat and coughing like he's never coughed before. john runs to his side and smacks his back and tries to soothe him, but it doesn't really end for quite a while.
people are watching. gale knows their watching- that's almost the worst part. the men, the guards; all with mixed emotions, emotions gale doesn't want. fear, pity, worry. but he insists he doesn't need it. he can handle it. he can endure.
later, gale would wake up with fever chills, full body aches, trouble breathing, and a barely restrained cough. and he acts like nothing’s even happening. gets all up in his big ass coat and little scarf to be there for his guys but he can barely keep his eyes open, always bending over to cough up a lung and regain his breath. obviously he can’t keep this up for long- maybe he even passes out from the exertion? just out, right in the middle of camp.
cue john carrying him like a ragdoll all the way back to their bunk- he doesn’t trust anyone else to do it- and buck isn’t light, especially not with winter clothes on, but john manages anyway. puts gale in bed and gives him his own blanket and pillows too. when gale wakes up he keeps trying to convince john he’s fine, it’s just some common cold, he feels better, but it’s clear he isn’t. pale as a ghost, skin sticky and plastered with sweat, full body chills; he can’t even move his body without gasping.
gale’s sick. maj. gale cleven- indestructible- is weak. soon, he comes to terms with it. he has to. the kriegie doctors either don’t know it’s pneumonia or don’t care, (ik penicillin was discovered in ‘28 but shh) so he’s sick for…a long time. bedridden if you will. and he hates it, obviously, hates not being able to take care of himself, of his men, john. by the time thirteen days goes by he’s the one eager to escape, trapped, mad at himself and his body for being so weak. can’t even get two sentences out without breaking down in a fit of coughs, his throat raw, voice all mangled.
i feel personally he’d get so frustrated with himself, maybe he’d self-harm, scratch his skin to try to get out of his body…anyway let me not get carried away
yeah. gale + pneumonia. he'd be fuckin miserable i love it
no no get carried away 😃↕️😃↕️

I really do like how he’s doing this for an audience of mostly men
What took you so long?
The most terrifying part of having memory issues is when you can feel something from 5 seconds ago be thrown out the window and there's an empty hole where it once was. You remember that you forgot something.
